1 E lihu a mai zis:

Then Elihu said,

2 „ Crezi că lucrul acesta este drept? Tu zici: «Sunt drept înaintea lui Dumnezeu.»

“Do you think this is right? Do you say, ‘I am more right than God’?

3 Î nsă mai spui: «Ce folos am şi ce câştig dacă nu păcătuiesc?»

For you ask, ‘What will You get by it? How will it be better for me than if I had sinned?’

4 Î ţi voi răspunde ţie şi prietenilor tăi.

I will answer you, and your friends with you.

5 U ită-te la ceruri şi vezi; priveşte cât sunt de sus norii faţă de tine!

Look at the heavens and see. See the clouds which are higher than you.

6 D acă ai păcătuit, ce rău Îi faci Lui? Dacă ai greşit de multe ori, ce-I faci Lui?

If you have sinned, what does that do to God? If you have done many wrongs, what does that do to Him?

7 D acă eşti drept, ce-I dai Lui? Ce primeşte El din mâna Ta?

If you are right and good, what do you give to Him? What does He receive from you?

8 R ăutatea ta nu dăunează decât semenului tău şi dreptatea ta nu e de folos decât fiilor oamenilor.

Your wrong-doing may hurt another man and your being right and good may help him.

9 O amenii strigă din cauza asupririlor grele; ei cer izbăvire de sub mâna celui puternic,

“People cry out because of their many hard times. They cry for help because of the arm of the powerful.

10 d ar nimeni nu zice: «Unde este Dumnezeu, Făcătorul meu, Care ne dă cântări de veselie noaptea,

But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night,

11 C are ne învaţă prin animalele pământului şi ne face înţelepţi prin păsările cerului?»

Who teaches us more than the animals of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’

12 E l nu răspunde când oamenii strigă, din cauza mândriei celor răi.

There they cry out, but He does not answer because of the pride of sinful men.

13 Î ntr-adevăr Dumnezeu nu ascultă strigătul lor în van; Cel Atotputernic nu-i dă atenţie.

For sure God will not listen to an empty cry. The All-powerful will not do anything about it.

14 C u atât mai mult deci când zici că nu-L vezi, că pricina ta este înaintea Lui şi că trebuie să aştepţi,

How much less when you say you do not see Him, that your trial is before Him, and you must wait for Him!

15 c ă mânia Sa nu pedepseşte niciodată şi că nu-I pasă prea mult de nelegiuire.

And now, because God has not punished in His anger, and does not watch for sin,

16 P rin urmare, Iov îşi deschide gura degeaba şi spune o mulţime de vorbe fără cunoştinţă.“

Job opens his mouth with empty talk. He speaks many words without much learning.”
