1 C ând David a ajuns bătrân şi sătul de zile, l-a numit rege peste Israel pe fiul său Solomon.

When David was an old man, he made his son Solomon king of Israel.

2 E l a adunat toate căpeteniile lui Israel, preoţii şi leviţii.

He gathered together all the leaders of Israel, the religious leaders, and the Levites.

3 A u fost număraţi leviţii de la vârsta de treizeci de ani în sus, numărul total al bărbaţilor fiind de treizeci şi opt de mii.

The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and older. Their number was 38, 000.

4 D avid a zis: „Dintre aceştia douăzeci şi patru de mii să supravegheze lucrarea de la Casa Domnului, şase mii să fie dregători şi judecători,

Of these, 24, 000 were to watch over the work of the Lord’s house. There were 6, 000 who were leaders and men who were to judge.

5 p atru mii – portari, iar alte patru mii să Îl laude pe Domnul cu instrumentele pe care eu le-am făcut ca să-L lăudăm.“

There were 4, 000 gate-keepers. And 4, 000 were praising the Lord with the things for playing music that David had made.

6 D avid i-a împărţit pe cete, potrivit fiilor lui Levi: Gherşon, Chehat şi Merari.

David divided them into groups by the sons of Levi, Gershon and Kohath and Merari.

7 D in partea gherşoniţilor: Ladan şi Şimei.

The sons of Gershon were Ladan and Shimei.

8 F iii lui Ladan au fost: căpetenia Iehiel, apoi Zetam şi Ioel – în total trei.

The sons of Ladan were Jehiel the first, then Zetham and Joel, three in all.

9 F iii lui Şimei au fost: Şelomit, Haziel şi Haran – în total trei. Acestea au fost căpeteniile familiilor lui Ladan.

The three sons of Shimei were Shelemoth, Haziel and Haran. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Ladan.

10 F iii lui Şimei au fost: Iahat, Ziza, Ieuş şi Beria. Aceştia patru au fost fii ai lui Şimei.

And the sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, Jeush and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

11 I ahat era căpetenia, iar Ziza era cel de-al doilea; Ieuş şi Beria nu au avut mulţi fii, astfel că ei au fost număraţi ca şi cum ar fi o singură familie.

Jahath was the first, and Zizah the second. But Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were numbered together as one father’s house.

12 F iii lui Chehat au fost: Amram, Iţhar, Hebron şi Uziel.

The four sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.

13 F iii lui Amram au fost: Aaron şi Moise. Aaron a fost despărţit de popor, ca să fie pus deoparte pentru a sfinţi lucrurile preasfinte, el şi fiii lui pe vecie, pentru a aduce tămâie înaintea Domnului, pentru a sluji şi a binecuvânta în Numele Lui pe vecie.

The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart for holy work, he and his sons forever. They were to burn special perfume before the Lord, and do His work. And they were to pray for good to come to the people in the Lord’s name forever.

14 F iii lui Moise însă, omul lui Dumnezeu, au fost socotiţi ca parte a seminţiei lui Levi.

But the names of the sons of Moses the man of God were among the family of Levi.

15 F iii lui Moise au fost: Gherşom şi Eliezer.

The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.

16 F iul lui Gherşom a fost căpetenia Şebuel.

The son of Gershom was Shebuel the leader.

17 F iul lui Eliezer a fost căpetenia Rehabia. Eliezer nu a mai avut alţi fii, însă urmaşii lui Rehabia au fost numeroşi.

The son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the leader. Eliezer had no other sons. But Rehabiah had many sons.

18 F iul lui Iţhar a fost căpetenia Şelomit.

The son of Izhar was Shelomith the leader.

19 F iii lui Hebron au fost: căpetenia Ieria, Amaria – al doilea, Iahaziel – al treilea, Iekamam – al patrulea.

The sons of Hebron were Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jehaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 F iii lui Uziel au fost: căpetenia Mica şi Işia – cel de-al doilea.

The sons of Uzziel were Micah the first, and Isshiah the second.

21 F iii lui Merari au fost Mahli şi Muşi. Fiii lui Mahli au fost Elazar şi Chiş.

The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.

22 E lazar a murit fără să aibă fii, ci numai fiice; prin urmare, fiii lui Chiş, rudele acestora, le-au luat de soţii.

Eleazar died and had no sons, only daughters. Their brothers the sons of Kish married them.

23 F iii lui Muşi au fost: Mahli, Eder şi Ieremot – în total trei.

The three sons of Mushi were Mahli and Eder and Jeremoth.

24 A ceştia au fost urmaşii lui Levi, potrivit familiilor lor, căpetenii în familiile lor, care au fost număraţi după numărul numelor lor, cei care aveau să facă lucrarea pentru slujba de la Casa Domnului, de la vârsta de douăzeci de ani în sus;

These were the sons of Levi by their fathers’ houses. They were the heads of the fathers’ houses of those whose names were numbered from twenty years old and older. They were to do the work of the Lord’s house.

25 c ăci David spusese: „ Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, a dat odihnă poporului Său şi va locui în Ierusalim pe vecie,

For David said, “The Lord God of Israel has given peace to his people. And He lives in Jerusalem forever.

26 i ar leviţii nu vor mai avea de purtat Tabernaculul şi toate uneltele lui pentru slujbă.“

The Levites do not need to carry the meeting tent and all the parts for its work any longer.”

27 P otrivit ultimelor cuvinte ale lui David, acesta a fost numărul leviţilor de la vârsta de douăzeci de ani în sus.

For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and older.

28 R esponsabilitatea lor era să-i ajute pe urmaşii lui Aaron la slujba de la Casa Domnului, îngrijindu -se de curţi, de odăi, de curăţirea tuturor lucrurilor sfinte, de împlinirea oricărei lucrări pentru slujba de la Casa lui Dumnezeu,

He said, “Their duties are to help Aaron’s sons with the work of the Lord’s house, in the open spaces and in the rooms. They are to make clean all the holy things, and do any work needed to be done in the house of God.

29 p recum şi de pâinea prezentării, de făina pentru darurile de mâncare, de turtele nedospite, de tăvi, de teluri şi de vasele de orice cantitate şi mărime.

They are to take care of the holy bread, the fine flour for a grain gift, and the bread without yeast. They are to take care of what is baked, and what is well mixed, of all the right amounts.

30 E i aveau să se înfăţişeze în fiecare dimineaţă ca să Îi mulţumească şi să Îl laude pe Domnul. Tot aşa trebuiau să facă şi seara,

They are to stand every morning and evening to thank and praise the Lord.

31 p recum şi cu prilejul tuturor arderilor de tot aduse Domnului de Sabat, de lună nouă şi de sărbători. Ei aveau să slujească continuu înaintea Domnului după un număr stabilit şi conform hotărârilor luate cu privire la ei.

And they are to give all the burnt gifts to the Lord on the Days of Rest, the new moons, and the special days. They are to do this before the Lord all the time, by the number set by the Law.

32 A şadar, ei trebuiau să aibă grijă de Cortul Întâlnirii şi de Locul Sfânt, ajutându-i pe urmaşii lui Aaron, rudele lor, la slujba de la Casa Domnului.

In this way they are to take care of the meeting tent, the holy place, and help their brothers the sons of Aaron, for the work of the Lord’s house.
