When David was an old man, he made his son Solomon king of Israel.

2 E le reuniu todos os líderes de Israel, bem como os sacerdotes e os levitas.

He gathered together all the leaders of Israel, the religious leaders, and the Levites.

3 O s levitas de trinta anos para cima foram contados, e o número total deles chegou a trinta e oito mil.

The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and older. Their number was 38, 000.

4 D avi escolheu vinte e quatro mil deles para supervisionarem o trabalho do templo do Senhor e seis mil para serem oficiais e juízes,

Of these, 24, 000 were to watch over the work of the Lord’s house. There were 6, 000 who were leaders and men who were to judge.

5 q uatro mil para serem guardas das portas e quatro mil para louvarem o Senhor com os instrumentos musicais que Davi tinha preparado com esse propósito.

There were 4, 000 gate-keepers. And 4, 000 were praising the Lord with the things for playing music that David had made.

6 D avi repartiu os levitas em grupos que descendiam de Gérson, Coate e Merari, filhos de Levi. Os Descendentes de Gérson

David divided them into groups by the sons of Levi, Gershon and Kohath and Merari.

7 D os filhos de Gérson: Ladã e Simei.

The sons of Gershon were Ladan and Shimei.

8 E stes foram os filhos de Ladã: Jeiel, o primeiro, Zetã e Joel, três ao todo.

The sons of Ladan were Jehiel the first, then Zetham and Joel, three in all.

9 E stes foram os filhos de Simei: Selomote, Haziel e Harã, três ao todo. Esses foram os chefes das famílias de Ladã.

The three sons of Shimei were Shelemoth, Haziel and Haran. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Ladan.

10 E os filhos de Simei foram: Jaate, Ziza, Jeús e Berias. Esses foram os filhos de Simei, quatro ao todo.

And the sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, Jeush and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

11 J aate foi o primeiro e Ziza, o segundo, mas Jeús e Berias não tiveram muitos descendentes, por isso foram contados como uma única família. Os Descendentes de Coate

Jahath was the first, and Zizah the second. But Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were numbered together as one father’s house.

12 D os filhos de Coate: Anrão, Isar, Hebrom e Uziel, quatro ao todo.

The four sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.

13 E stes foram os filhos de Anrão: Arão e Moisés. Arão foi separado, ele e seus descendentes, para sempre, para consagrar as coisas santíssimas, oferecer sacrifícios ao Senhor, ministrar diante dele e pronunciar bênçãos em seu nome.

The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart for holy work, he and his sons forever. They were to burn special perfume before the Lord, and do His work. And they were to pray for good to come to the people in the Lord’s name forever.

14 O s filhos de Moisés, homem de Deus, foram contados como parte da tribo de Levi.

But the names of the sons of Moses the man of God were among the family of Levi.

15 E stes foram os filhos de Moisés: Gérson e Eliézer.

The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.

16 S ebuel foi o chefe dos descendentes de Gérson.

The son of Gershom was Shebuel the leader.

17 R eabias foi o chefe dos descendentes de Eliézer. Eliézer não teve nenhum outro filho, mas Reabias teve muitos filhos.

The son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the leader. Eliezer had no other sons. But Rehabiah had many sons.

18 S elomite foi o chefe dos filhos de Isar.

The son of Izhar was Shelomith the leader.

19 E stes foram os filhos de Hebrom: Jerias foi o primeiro, Amarias, o segundo, Jaaziel, o terceiro, e Jecameão foi o quarto.

The sons of Hebron were Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jehaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 E stes foram os filhos de Uziel: Mica, o primeiro, e Issias, o segundo. Os Descendentes de Merari

The sons of Uzziel were Micah the first, and Isshiah the second.

21 D os filhos de Merari: Mali e Musi. Estes foram os filhos de Mali: Eleazar e Quis.

The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.

22 E leazar morreu sem ter filhos, teve apenas filhas. Os primos delas, os filhos de Quis, casaram-se com elas.

Eleazar died and had no sons, only daughters. Their brothers the sons of Kish married them.

23 E stes foram os filhos de Musi: Mali, Éder e Jeremote, três ao todo.

The three sons of Mushi were Mahli and Eder and Jeremoth.

24 E sses foram os descendentes de Levi pelas suas famílias: os chefes de famílias conforme registrados por seus nomes e contados individualmente, ou seja, os de vinte anos para cima, que serviam no templo do Senhor.

These were the sons of Levi by their fathers’ houses. They were the heads of the fathers’ houses of those whose names were numbered from twenty years old and older. They were to do the work of the Lord’s house.

25 P ois Davi dissera: “Uma vez que o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, concedeu descanso ao seu povo e veio habitar para sempre em Jerusalém,

For David said, “The Lord God of Israel has given peace to his people. And He lives in Jerusalem forever.

26 o s levitas não mais precisam carregar o tabernáculo nem os utensílios usados em seu serviço”.

The Levites do not need to carry the meeting tent and all the parts for its work any longer.”

27 D e acordo com as instruções finais de Davi, foram contados os levitas de vinte anos para cima.

For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and older.

28 O dever dos levitas era ajudar os descendentes de Arão no serviço do templo do Senhor. Encarregavam-se dos pátios, das salas laterais, da purificação de todas as coisas sagradas e das outras tarefas da casa de Deus.

He said, “Their duties are to help Aaron’s sons with the work of the Lord’s house, in the open spaces and in the rooms. They are to make clean all the holy things, and do any work needed to be done in the house of God.

29 E stavam encarregados do pão consagrado, da farinha para as ofertas de cereal, dos bolos sem fermento, de assar o pão e misturar a massa, e de todos os pesos e medidas.

They are to take care of the holy bread, the fine flour for a grain gift, and the bread without yeast. They are to take care of what is baked, and what is well mixed, of all the right amounts.

30 A lém disso, deviam se apresentar todas as manhãs e todas as tardes para dar graças e louvar ao Senhor, e fazer o mesmo

They are to stand every morning and evening to thank and praise the Lord.

31 s empre que holocaustos fossem apresentados ao Senhor nos sábados, nas festas da lua nova e nas festas fixas. Deviam servir regularmente diante do Senhor, conforme o número prescrito para eles.

And they are to give all the burnt gifts to the Lord on the Days of Rest, the new moons, and the special days. They are to do this before the Lord all the time, by the number set by the Law.

32 D essa maneira os levitas ficaram responsáveis pela Tenda do Encontro, pelo Lugar Santo e, pela assistência aos seus irmãos, os descendentes de Arão, e pelo serviço do templo do Senhor.

In this way they are to take care of the meeting tent, the holy place, and help their brothers the sons of Aaron, for the work of the Lord’s house.
