1 I ov a răspuns:

Then Job answered,

2 „ Cu siguranţă, voi sunteţi glasul celor mulţi şi înţelepciunea va muri odată cu voi.

“No doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.

3 D ar ca şi voi am şi eu minte, nu sunt mai prejos decât voi. Cine nu ştie toate aceste lucruri?

But I have understanding as well as you. I am not less than you. Who does not know such things as these?

4 A m ajuns de râsul prietenilor mei, deşi L-am chemat pe Dumnezeu şi mi-a răspuns. Sunt luat în derâdere, deşi sunt curat şi drept.

Even my friends laugh at me. The man who called on God, and God answered him, the man who is right and without blame is laughed at.

5 O nenorocire, de care râd cei ce o duc bine, e pregătită pentru cei cărora le alunecă piciorul.

He who lives in comfort laughs at one who has trouble and whose feet are slipping.

6 C orturile tâlharilor sunt în pace şi cei ce-L mânie pe Dumnezeu sunt în siguranţă, purtându-şi zeul în mâini.

The tents of those who destroy have much. Those who make God angry are safe and have their god in their own hands.

7 Î ntreabă animalele şi te vor învăţa, păsările văzduhului îţi vor spune;

“But ask the wild animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you.

8 î ntreabă pământul şi te va învăţa, peştii mării îţi vor spune.

Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you. Let the fish of the sea make it known to you.

9 C are dintre toate acestea nu ştiu că mâna Domnului le-a făcut?

Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?

10 Î n mâna Sa e viaţa fiecărei creaturi şi suflarea oricărui om.

In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all men.

11 N u analizează urechea cuvintele, aşa cum gustă cerul gurii mâncarea?

Does not the ear test words as the mouth tastes food?

12 N u se găseşte înţelepciunea la cei bătrâni? Viaţa lungă nu aduce ea pricepere?

Wisdom is with old men, and understanding with long life.

13 A le lui Dumnezeu sunt înţelepciunea şi puterea, sfatul şi priceperea sunt ale Lui.

“With God are wisdom and strength. Wise words and understanding belong to Him.

14 D acă El dărâmă, nimeni nu poate rezidi. Pe cel închis de El, nimeni nu-l poate elibera.

See, He tears down, and it cannot be built again. He puts a man in prison, and no one can free him.

15 D acă El opreşte apele, vine seceta; dacă El le dă drumul, acestea inundă ţara.

See, He stops the waters and they dry up. He sends them out, and they cover the earth.

16 A le Lui sunt puterea şi victoria; cel înşelat şi cel ce înşală sunt sub stăpânirea Lui.

Strength and wisdom are with Him. Both the fool and the one who fools him belong to God.

17 E l îi face pe sfetnici să umble goi şi îi face nebuni pe judecători.

He takes wisdom away from leaders and makes fools of judges.

18 E l desface cingătorile împăraţilor şi le leagă coapsele cu o frânghie.

He takes off chains put on by kings, and holds back the power of kings.

19 E l îi face pe preoţi să umble goi şi îi răstoarnă pe cei puternici.

He makes religious leaders walk without pride, and takes the power away from those who think they are safe.

20 Î nchide gura sfătuitorilor şi le ia mintea celor bătrâni.

He stops the trusted ones from speaking and takes away the wisdom of the leaders.

21 E l revarsă dispreţ asupra nobililor şi îl dezarmează pe cel puternic.

He pours anger on rulers, and takes away the strength of the strong.

22 E l descoperă adâncimile întunericului şi aduce întunericul adânc la lumină.

He makes known hidden truth from the darkness, and brings deep darkness to light.

23 E l înalţă neamurile şi tot El le coboară, El le face să crească şi tot El le împrăştie.

He makes the nations great, and then destroys them. He helps nations to become large, then leads them away.

24 E l ia mintea conducătorilor pământului şi-i face să rătăcească printr-o pustietate fără drum.

He takes away understanding from the leaders of the people of the earth, and makes them travel in a waste-land with no path.

25 B âjbâie în întuneric fără lumină, se clatină ca nişte oameni beţi.

They feel their way in darkness with no light. And He makes them walk from side to side like a drunk man.
