1 I n those days, the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and said to them,

Тими днями, коли було знову багато народу, а їсти не мали чого, покликав Він учнів Своїх та й промовив до них:

2 “ I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat.

Жаль мені тих людей, що вже три дні зо Мною знаходяться, та їсти не мають чого.

3 A nd if I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar.”

А коли відпущу їх голодних до їхніх домівок, то ослабнуть у дорозі, бо деякі з них поприходили здалека.

4 T hen His disciples answered Him, “How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?”

І відказали Йому Його учні: Звідки зможе хто нагодувати їх хлібом отут у пустині?

5 H e asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”

А Він їх запитав: Скільки маєте хліба? Вони ж повідомили: Семеро.

6 S o He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the multitude.

Тоді Він народу звелів на землі посідати. І, взявши семеро хліба, віддавши подяку, Він поламав і дав учням Своїм, щоб роздати. А вони роздавали народові.

7 T hey also had a few small fish; and having blessed them, He said to set them also before them.

І мали вони трохи рибок; і Він їх поблагословив, і роздати звелів також їх.

8 S o they ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets of leftover fragments.

І всі їли й наїлися, а з позосталих кусків сім кошів назбирали...

9 N ow those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He sent them away,

А їдців було тисяч з чотири!

10 i mmediately got into the boat with His disciples, and came to the region of Dalmanutha. The Pharisees Seek a Sign

І всів Він негайно до човна з Своїми учнями, та й прибув до землі Далманутської.

11 T hen the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him.

І вийшли фарисеї, і почали сперечатися з Ним, і, Його випробовуючи, хотіли від Нього ознаки із неба.

12 B ut He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.” Beware of the Leaven of the Pharisees and Herod

А Він тяжко зідхнув у Своїм дусі й промовив: Якої ознаки цей рід вимагає? Поправді кажу вам, що родові цьому ознака не буде дана!

13 A nd He left them, and getting into the boat again, departed to the other side.

І покинув Він їх, усів знову до човна, і на той бік відбув.

14 N ow the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat.

І забули вони взяти хліба, і крім одного буханця, у човні не мали з собою нічого.

15 T hen He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

А Він їм наказував та говорив: Стережіться уважливо фарисейської розчини й розчини Іродової!

16 A nd they reasoned among themselves, saying, “ It is because we have no bread.”

Вони ж міркували й казали один до одного, що хліба не мають вони.

17 B ut Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened?

А Ісус, знавши те, промовляє до них: Чого ви міркуєте, що хліба не маєте? Чи ви ще не знаєте й не розумієте? Чи ще маєте серце своє затверділим?

18 H aving eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?

Мавши очі не бачите, і мавши вуха не чуєте? І не пам'ятаєте,

19 W hen I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”

коли п'ять хлібів Я ламав на п'ять тисяч, скільки повних кошів із кусків ви зібрали? Вони кажуть до Нього: Дванадцять.

20 “ Also, when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?” And they said, “Seven.”

А як сім на чотири тисячі, скільки кошиків повних з кусків ви зібрали? І відказують: Сім.

21 S o He said to them, “How is it you do not understand?” A Blind Man Healed at Bethsaida

І сказав Він до них: Ви ще не розумієте?...

22 T hen He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.

І приходять вони в Віфсаїду. І приводять до Нього сліпого, і благають Його, щоб доторкнувся до нього.

23 S o He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.

І взяв Він сліпого за руку, та й вивів його за село. І послинивши очі йому, поклав руки на нього, і питався його, чи що бачить.

24 A nd he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.”

І, зиркнувши, сказав той: Я бачу людей, які ходять, немов би дерева...

25 T hen He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.

Потім знов Він поклав Свої руки на очі йому, і прозрів той, і одужав, і виразно став бачити все!

26 T hen He sent him away to his house, saying, “Neither go into the town, nor tell anyone in the town.” Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

І послав Він додому його й наказав: До села й не заходь, і нікому в селі не розповідай!

27 N ow Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?”

Потому пішов Ісус й учні Його до сіл Кесарії Пилипової, а в дорозі питав Своїх учнів, говорячи їм: За кого Мене люди вважають?

28 S o they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”

Вони ж відповіли Йому, кажучи: За Івана Христителя, другі за Іллю, а інші за одного з пророків.

29 H e said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”

І Він запитав їх: А ви за кого Мене маєте? Петро Йому в відповідь каже: Ти Христос!

30 T hen He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him. Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection

І Він заборонив їм, щоб нікому про Нього вони не казали!

31 A nd He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

І почав їх навчати, що Синові Людському треба багато страждати, і Його відцураються старші, і первосвященики, і книжники, і Він буде вбитий, але третього дня Він воскресне.

32 H e spoke this word openly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

І те слово казав Він відкрито. А Петро узяв набік Його, і Йому став перечити.

33 B ut when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” Take Up the Cross and Follow Him

А Він обернувся й поглянув на учнів Своїх, та й Петру докорив і сказав: Відступись, сатано, від Мене, бо думаєш ти не про Боже, а про людське!

34 W hen He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

І Він покликав народ із Своїми учнями, та й промовив до них: Коли хоче хто йти вслід за Мною, хай зречеться самого себе, і хай візьме свого хреста та й за Мною йде!

35 F or whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.

Бо хто хоче душу свою зберегти, той погубить її, а хто згубить душу свою ради Мене та Євангелії, той її збереже.

36 F or what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Яка ж користь людині, що здобуде ввесь світ, але душу свою занапастить?

37 O r what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Або що назамін дасть людина за душу свою?

38 F or whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Бо хто буде Мене та Моєї науки соромитися в роді цім перелюбнім та грішнім, того посоромиться також Син Людський, як прийде у славі Свого Отця з Анголами святими.
