1 N ow when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled from the house of Judah and Benjamin one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.

І прийшов Рехав'ам до Єрусалиму, і зібрав дім Юдин та Веніяминів, сто й вісімдесят тисяч вибраних військових, щоб воювати з Ізраїлем, щоб вернути царство Рехав'амові.

2 B ut the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

І було Господнє слово до Шемаї, чоловіка Божого, говорячи:

3 “ Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

Скажи Рехав'амові, Соломонову синові, цареві Юдиному, та всьому Ізраїлеві в Юді та в Веніямині, говорячи:

4 ‘ Thus says the Lord: “You shall not go up or fight against your brethren! Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.”’” Therefore they obeyed the words of the Lord, and turned back from attacking Jeroboam. Rehoboam Fortifies the Cities

Так сказав Господь: Не йдіть і не воюйте з своїми братами! Верніться кожен до дому свого, бо ця річ сталася від Мене! І вони послухалися Господніх слів, і вернулися з походу на Єровоама.

5 S o Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

І осівся Рехав'ам в Єрусалимі, і побудував твердинні міста в Юді.

6 A nd he built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,

І збудував він Віфлеєма, і Етама, і Текою,

7 B eth Zur, Sochoh, Adullam,

і Бет-Цура, і Сохо, і Адуллама,

8 G ath, Mareshah, Ziph,

і Ґата, і Марешу, і Зіфа,

9 A doraim, Lachish, Azekah,

і Адораїма, і Лахіша, і Азеку,

10 Z orah, Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin, fortified cities.

і Цор'у, і Айялона, і Хеврона, що в Юді та в Веніямині, міста твердинні.

11 A nd he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine.

І зміцнив він ті твердині, і дав у них начальників, і запаси, і оливи, і вина,

12 A lso in every city he put shields and spears, and made them very strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side. Priests and Levites Move to Judah

а до кожного окремого міста великі щити та ратища, і дуже сильно їх позміцнював. І був його Юда та Веніямин.

13 A nd from all their territories the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel took their stand with him.

А священики та Левити, що були в усьому Ізраїлі, зібралися до нього з усієї їхньої границі.

14 F or the Levites left their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the Lord.

Бо Левити кидали пасовиська свої та власність свою, і приходили до Юди та до Єрусалиму, бо Єровоам та сини його усунули їх від священичого служіння Господеві,

15 T hen he appointed for himself priests for the high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.

і понаставляли собі священиків для пагірків та демонів, та для тельців, що він понароблював.

16 A nd after the Levites left, those from all the tribes of Israel, such as set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers.

А за ними, зо всіх Ізраїлевих племен ті, що віддавали своє серце шукати Господа, Бога Ізраїля, приходили до Єрусалиму приносити жертви Господеві, Богові батьків своїх.

17 S o they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years. The Family of Rehoboam

І зміцнили вони Юдине царство, і підсилили Рехав'ама, Соломонового сина, на три роки, бо вони ходили три роки дорогою Давида та Соломона.

18 T hen Rehoboam took for himself as wife Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliah the son of Jesse.

І взяв собі Рехав'ам жінку Махалат, дочку Єрімота, Давидового сина, та Авіхаїл, дочку Еліава, Ісаєвого сина.

19 A nd she bore him children: Jeush, Shamariah, and Zaham.

І вона породила йому синів: Єуша, і Шемарію, Загама.

20 A fter her he took Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.

А по ній він узяв Мааху, дочку Авесаломову, і вона породила йому Авійю, і Аттая, і Зізу, і Шеломіта.

21 N ow Rehoboam loved Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

І покохав Рехав'ам Мааху, Авесаломову дочку, над усіх жінок своїх та наложниць своїх, бо він узяв вісімнадцять жінок та шістдесят наложниць, і породив двадцять і вісім синів та шістдесят дочок.

22 A nd Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maachah as chief, to be leader among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.

А за голову Рехав'ам поставив Авійю, Маахиного сина, за володаря серед братів його, бо він хотів настановити його царем.

23 H e dealt wisely, and dispersed some of his sons throughout all the territories of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city; and he gave them provisions in abundance. He also sought many wives for them.

І мудро він чинив, і порозсилав усіх синів своїх до всіх країв Юди й Веніямина, до всіх твердинних міст, і дав їм багате утримання, і підшукав їм багато жінок.
