1 J osiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

Йосія був віку восьми літ, коли він зацарював, і царював в Єрусалимі тридцять і один рік.

2 H e did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

І робив він угодне в Господніх очах, і ходив дорогами свого батька Давида, і не вступався ані праворуч, ані ліворуч.

3 F or in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherah poles, and the engraved images, and the molten images.

І восьмого року царювання свого, бувши ще юнаком, розпочав він звертатися до Бога батька свого Давида, а дванадцятого року розпочав очищати Юду та Єрусалим від пагірків, і Астарт, і бовванів різаних та литих.

4 T hey broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and the incense altars that were on high above them he cut down; and the Asherah poles, and the engraved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

І порозбивали перед ним Ваалові жертівники, а стовпи сонця, що були на них, він повирубував, а Астарти, і боввани різані та литі поламав і розтер, і розкидав на гроби тих, хто приносив їм жертви.

5 H e burnt the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.

А кості жерців попалив на їхніх жертівниках, і очистив Юдею та Єрусалим.

6 H e did this in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even to Naphtali, around in their ruins.

А по містах Манасії, і Єфрема, і Симеона, і аж до Нефталима по їхніх руїнах навколо

7 H e broke down the altars, and beat the Asherah poles and the engraved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.

порозбивав жертівники та Астарти, і потовк боввани на порох, а всі ідоли сонця повирубував в усьому Ізраїлевому краї, і вернувся до Єрусалиму.

8 N ow in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair Yahweh’s house his God.

А вісімнадцятого року царювання його, по очищенні Краю та Божого дому, послав він Шафана, сина Ацалії, і Маасею, зверхника міста, та Йоаха, та канцлера Йоаха, сина Йохазового, щоб направити дім Господа, Бога його.

9 T hey came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into God’s house, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

І прийшли вони до первосвященика Хілкійї, і дали срібло, що було знесене до Господнього дому, яке зібрали Левити, що стерегли порога, з руки Манасії й Єфрема, та з усієї решти Ізраїля, і з усього Юди й Веніямина та мешканців Єрусалиму.

10 T hey delivered it into the hand of the workmen who had the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and the workmen who labored in Yahweh’s house gave it to mend and repair the house;

І дали на руку робітників праці, приставлених до Господнього дому, а робітники тієї праці, що робили в Господньому домі, віддали на відбудову та на направу Божого дому.

11 e ven to the carpenters and to the builders gave they it, to buy cut stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

І дали вони теслям, і будівничим, щоб купувати тесане каміння та дерева на зв'язування та на покриття домів, що їх понищили Юдині царі.

12 T he men did the work faithfully: and their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and others of the Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music.

А ті люди чесно виконували працю, а над ними були поставлені Яхат та Овадія, Левити з синів Мерарієвих, і Захарій та Мешуллам із синів Кегатівців для керування. А всі ті Левіти, що розумілися на музичних знаряддях,

13 A lso they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all who did the work in every kind of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.

були над носіями, і керували всіма робітниками на кожну роботу; а з Левитів були писарі й урядники та придверні.

14 W hen they brought out the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house, Hilkiah the priest found the book of Yahweh’s law given by Moses.

А коли вони виймали срібло, принесене до Господнього дому, священик Хілкійя знайшов книгу Господнього Закону, даного через Мойсея.

15 H ilkiah answered Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

І відповів Хілкійя й сказав до писаря Шафана: Я знайшов у Господньому домі книгу Закону! І дав Хілкійя ту книгу Шафанові.

16 S haphan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, “All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.

І приніс Шафан ту книгу до царя, і приніс цареві ще відповідь, говорячи: Усе, що дано через твоїх рабів, вони роблять.

17 T hey have emptied out the money that was found in Yahweh’s house, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.”

І вони висипали те срібло, що знайдене в Господньому домі, і дали його на руку приставлених та на руку робітників праці.

18 S haphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered me a book.” Shaphan read therein before the king.

І доніс писар Шафан цареві, говорячи: Священик Хілкійя дав мені книгу. І Шафан перечитав з неї перед царем.

19 W hen the king had heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.

І сталося, як цар почув слова книги Закону, то роздер свої шати...

20 T he king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

І наказав цар Хілкійї, і Ахікамові, Шафановому синові, і Авдонові, Міхиному синові, і писареві Шафанові, і Асаї, царевому рабові, говорячи:

21 “ Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept Yahweh’s word, to do according to all that is written in this book.”

Ідіть, зверніться до Господа про мене та про позосталих в Ізраїлі та в Юдеї, про слова цієї книги, що знайдена. Великий бо гнів Господній, що вилився на нас за те, що батьки наші це дотримували Господнього слова, щоб робити все, як написано в цій книзі.

22 S o Hilkiah, and they whom the king had commanded, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter;) and they spoke to her to that effect.

І пішов Хілкійя та ті, кому звелів цар, до пророчиці Хулди, жінки Шаллума, сина Токегата, сина Хасриного, сторожа шат, а вона сиділа в Єрусалимі на Новому Місті, і говорили до неї про це.

23 S he said to them, “Yahweh, the God of Israel says: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

А вона сказала до них: Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: Скажіть чоловікові, що послав вас до мене:

24 “ Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.

Так говорить Господь: Ось Я наведу лихо на оце місце та на мешканців його, усі ті прокляття, що написані в книзі, яку читали перед Юдиним царем,

25 B ecause they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore is my wrath poured out on this place, and it shall not be quenched.’”’

за те, що вони покинули Мене й кадили іншим богам, щоб гнівити Мене всіма ділами своїх рук. І вилився гнів Мій на це місце, і він не погасне...

26 B ut to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, thus you shall tell him, ‘Yahweh, the God of Israel says: “As touching the words which you have heard,

А Юдиному цареві, що послав вас звернутися до Господа, скажете йому так: Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів, про ті слова, які ти чув:

27 b ecause your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,” says Yahweh.

За те, що зм'якло твоє серце, і ти впокорився перед лицем Бога свого, коли ти почув слова Його на це місце та на мешканців його, і ти впокорився перед лицем Моїм, і роздер свої шати та плакав перед Моїм лицем, то Я також почув, говорить Господь.

28 “ Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring on this place, and on its inhabitants.”’” They brought back word to the king.

Ось Я прилучу тебе до батьків твоїх, і ти будеш прилучений до гробів своїх у спокої, і очі твої не побачать усього того лиха, що Я наведу на оце місце та на мешканців його! І вони принесли відповідь цареві.

29 T hen the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

А цар послав, і зібрав усіх старших Юдеї та Єрусалиму.

30 T he king went up to Yahweh’s house, and all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in Yahweh’s house.

І ввійшов до Господнього дому цар, і кожен муж Юдеї, і мешканці Єрусалиму, і священики, і Левити, і ввесь народ від великого й аж до малого, і він прочитав уголос слова книги Заповіту, знайденої в Господньому домі.

31 T he king stood in his place, and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.

І став цар на своєму місці, і склав заповіта перед Господнім лицем, щоб ходити за Господом та додержувати заповіді Його, і свідчення Його, і устави Його всім серцем своїм та всім життям своїм, щоб виконувати слова того заповіту, що написані в тій книзі.

32 H e caused all who were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand. The inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

І наставив він кожного, хто знаходився в Єрусалимі та в Веніямині, до того. І мешканці Єрусалиму робили за заповітом Бога, Бога своїх батьків.

33 J osiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all who were found in Israel to serve, even to serve Yahweh their God. All his days they didn’t depart from following Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

І Йосія повикидав усі поганські гидоти з усіх країв, що в Ізраїлевих синів, і змусив кожного, хто знаходився в Ізраїлі, служити Господеві, їхньому Богові. За всіх днів його вони не відступали від Господа, Бога своїх батьків.
