1 J osiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

Tenía Josías ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y treinta y un años reinó en Jerusalén.

2 H e did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

Hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová y anduvo en los caminos de David, su padre, sin apartarse a la derecha ni a la izquierda. Reformas de Josías

3 F or in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherah poles, and the engraved images, and the molten images.

A los ocho años de su reinado, siendo aún muchacho, comenzó a buscar al Dios de David, su padre; y a los doce años comenzó a limpiar a Judá y a Jerusalén de los lugares altos, imágenes de Asera, esculturas e imágenes fundidas.

4 T hey broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and the incense altars that were on high above them he cut down; and the Asherah poles, and the engraved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

Fueron derribados en su presencia los altares de los baales, e hizo pedazos las imágenes del sol que estaban puestas encima; despedazó también las imágenes de Asera, las esculturas y estatuas fundidas, las desmenuzó y esparció el polvo sobre los sepulcros de los que les habían ofrecido sacrificios.

5 H e burnt the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.

Quemó además los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre sus altares y limpió a Judá y a Jerusalén.

6 H e did this in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even to Naphtali, around in their ruins.

Lo mismo hizo en las ciudades de Manasés, Efraín, Simeón y hasta Neftalí, y en los lugares asolados alrededor.

7 H e broke down the altars, and beat the Asherah poles and the engraved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.

Después de derribar los altares y las imágenes de Asera, quebrar y desmenuzar las esculturas, y destruir todos los ídolos por toda la tierra de Israel, volvió a Jerusalén. El hallazgo del libro de la Ley

8 N ow in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair Yahweh’s house his God.

A los dieciocho años de su reinado, después de haber limpiado la tierra y la Casa, envió a Safán hijo de Azalía, a Maasías, gobernador de la ciudad, y a Joa hijo de Joacaz, el canciller, para que repararan la casa de Jehová, su Dios.

9 T hey came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into God’s house, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Estos se presentaron ante el sumo sacerdote Hilcías y le entregaron el dinero que había sido traído a la casa de Jehová, que los levitas que guardaban la puerta habían recibido de Manasés, de Efraín y de todo el resto de Israel, de todo Judá y Benjamín, y de los habitantes de Jerusalén.

10 T hey delivered it into the hand of the workmen who had the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and the workmen who labored in Yahweh’s house gave it to mend and repair the house;

Lo pusieron en manos de los que hacían la obra, que eran mayordomos en la casa de Jehová, y estos se lo daban a los que hacían la obra y trabajaban en la casa de Jehová reparando y restaurando el Templo.

11 e ven to the carpenters and to the builders gave they it, to buy cut stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

Daban asimismo a los carpinteros y canteros para que compraran piedra de cantería y madera para los armazones, y para la entabladura de los edificios que habían destruido los reyes de Judá.

12 T he men did the work faithfully: and their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and others of the Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music.

Estos hombres procedían con fidelidad en la obra. Los encargados de activar la obra eran Jahat y Abdías, levitas de los hijos de Merari, y Zacarías y Mesulam, de los hijos de Coat, y todos los levitas entendidos en instrumentos de música.

13 A lso they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all who did the work in every kind of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.

También velaban sobre los cargadores y eran mayordomos de los que se ocupaban en cualquier clase de obra. Entre los levitas había escribas, gobernadores y porteros.

14 W hen they brought out the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house, Hilkiah the priest found the book of Yahweh’s law given by Moses.

Al sacar el dinero que había sido traído a la casa de Jehová, el sacerdote Hilcías halló el libro de la ley de Jehová, dada por medio de Moisés.

15 H ilkiah answered Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

Entonces Hilcías dijo al escriba Safán: —He hallado el libro de la Ley en la casa de Jehová. Y dio Hilcías el libro a Safán.

16 S haphan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, “All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.

Safán lo llevó al rey y le contó el asunto diciendo: —Tus siervos han cumplido todo lo que les fue encomendado.

17 T hey have emptied out the money that was found in Yahweh’s house, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.”

Han reunido el dinero que se halló en la casa de Jehová y lo han entregado a los encargados y a los que hacen la obra.

18 S haphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered me a book.” Shaphan read therein before the king.

Además de esto, el escriba Safán anunció al rey: —El sacerdote Hilcías me ha dado un libro. Y leyó Safán en él ante el rey.

19 W hen the king had heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.

Cuando el rey oyó las palabras de la Ley, rasgó sus vestidos

20 T he king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

y ordenó a Hilcías y a Ahicam hijo de Safán, a Abdón hijo de Micaía, a Safán, el escriba, y a Asaías, siervo del rey:

21 “ Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept Yahweh’s word, to do according to all that is written in this book.”

—¡Id!, consultad a Jehová por mí y por el resto de Israel y de Judá acerca de las palabras del libro que se ha hallado; porque grande es la ira de Jehová que ha caído sobre nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no han guardado la palabra de Jehová haciendo conforme a todo lo que está escrito en este libro.

22 S o Hilkiah, and they whom the king had commanded, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter;) and they spoke to her to that effect.

Entonces Hilcías y los hombres del rey fueron a Hulda, la profetisa, mujer de Salum hijo de Ticva hijo de Harhas, encargado de las vestiduras, la cual vivía en el segundo barrio de Jerusalén, y le hablaron del asunto.

23 S he said to them, “Yahweh, the God of Israel says: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

Entonces ella respondió: —Jehová, Dios de Israel, ha dicho así: “Decid al hombre que os ha enviado a mí, que así ha dicho Jehová:

24 “ Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.

Voy a traer el mal sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes, es decir, todas las maldiciones que están escritas en el libro que leyeron delante del rey de Judá;

25 B ecause they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore is my wrath poured out on this place, and it shall not be quenched.’”’

por cuanto me han dejado y han ofrecido sacrificios a dioses ajenos, provocándome a ira con todas las obras de sus manos; por tanto, se derramará mi ira sobre este lugar y no se apagará.”

26 B ut to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, thus you shall tell him, ‘Yahweh, the God of Israel says: “As touching the words which you have heard,

Pero al rey de Judá, que os ha enviado a consultar a Jehová, le diréis así: “Jehová, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho así: Por cuanto oíste las palabras del libro

27 b ecause your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,” says Yahweh.

y tu corazón se conmovió, te humillaste delante de Dios al oír sus palabras sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes, y te humillaste delante de mí, rasgaste tus vestidos y lloraste en mi presencia, yo también te he oído, dice Jehová.

28 “ Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring on this place, and on its inhabitants.”’” They brought back word to the king.

Yo te recogeré con tus padres, y serás recogido en tu sepulcro en paz, tus ojos no verán todo el mal que yo traigo sobre este lugar y sobre los que habitan en él.” Y ellos refirieron al rey la respuesta.

29 T hen the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

Entonces el rey hizo reunir a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.

30 T he king went up to Yahweh’s house, and all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in Yahweh’s house.

Subió el rey a la casa de Jehová, y con él todos los hombres de Judá, y los habitantes de Jerusalén, los sacerdotes, los levitas y todo el pueblo, desde el mayor hasta el más pequeño; y leyó a oídos de ellos todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la casa de Jehová.

31 T he king stood in his place, and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.

Y puesto en pie el rey en su sitio, hizo delante de Jehová pacto de caminar en pos de Jehová y de guardar sus mandamientos, sus testimonios y sus estatutos, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, poniendo por obra las palabras del pacto que estaban escritas en aquel libro.

32 H e caused all who were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand. The inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

E hizo que se comprometieran a ello todos los que estaban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín; y los habitantes de Jerusalén hicieron conforme al pacto de Dios, del Dios de sus padres.

33 J osiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all who were found in Israel to serve, even to serve Yahweh their God. All his days they didn’t depart from following Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

Josías quitó todas las abominaciones de toda la tierra de los hijos de Israel, e hizo que todos los que se hallaban en Israel sirvieran a Jehová, su Dios. Y mientras él vivió no se apartaron de Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.
