1 N aomi had a relative of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz.

Tenía Noemí un pariente de su marido, hombre rico de la familia de Elimelec, el cual se llamaba Booz.

2 R uth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Let me now go to the field, and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I find favor.” She said to her, “Go, my daughter.”

Un día Rut, la moabita, dijo a Noemí: —Te ruego que me dejes ir al campo a recoger espigas en pos de aquel a cuyos ojos halle gracia. —Vé, hija mía —le respondió ella.

3 S he went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.

Fue, pues, y al llegar, se puso a espigar en el campo tras los segadores. Y aconteció que aquella parte del campo era de Booz, el pariente de Elimelec.

4 B ehold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “May Yahweh be with you.” They answered him, “May Yahweh bless you.”

Llegaba entonces Booz de Belén, y dijo a los segadores: —Jehová sea con vosotros. —Jehová te bendiga —le respondieron ellos.

5 T hen Boaz said to his servant who was set over the reapers, “Whose young lady is this?”

Luego Booz le preguntó a su criado, el encargado de los segadores: —¿De quién es esta joven?

6 T he servant who was set over the reapers answered, “It is the Moabite lady who came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab.

El criado encargado de los segadores respondió: —Es la joven moabita que volvió con Noemí de los campos de Moab.

7 S he said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came, and has continued even from the morning until now, except that she rested a little in the house.”

Me ha dicho: “Te ruego que me dejes espigar y recoger tras los segadores entre las gavillas.” Entró, pues, y ha estado trabajando desde la mañana hasta ahora, sin descansar ni un solo momento.

8 T hen Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Don’t go to glean in another field, and don’t go from here, but stay here close to my maidens.

Entonces Booz dijo a Rut: —Oye, hija mía, no te vayas, ni recojas espigas en otro campo; te quedarás aquí junto a mis criadas.

9 L et your eyes be on the field that they reap, and go after them. Haven’t I commanded the young men not to touch you? When you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink from that which the young men have drawn.”

Mira bien el campo que sieguen y síguelas; pues he mandado a los criados que no te molesten. Y cuando tengas sed, ve a las vasijas, y bebe del agua que sacan los criados.

10 T hen she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your sight, that you should take knowledge of me, since I am a foreigner?”

Entonces ella, bajando su rostro, se postró en tierra y le dijo: —¿Por qué he hallado gracia a tus ojos para que me favorezcas siendo yo extranjera?

11 B oaz answered her, “I have been fully told about all that you have done to your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother, and the land of your birth, and have come to a people that you didn’t know before.

Booz le respondió: —He sabido todo lo que has hecho con tu suegra después de la muerte de tu marido, y cómo has dejado a tu padre y a tu madre, y la tierra donde naciste, para venir a un pueblo que no conocías.

12 M ay Yahweh repay your work, and a full reward be given to you from Yahweh, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”

Que Jehová te recompense por ello, y que recibas tu premio de parte de Jehová Dios de Israel, bajo cuyas alas has venido a refugiarte.

13 T hen she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, because you have comforted me, and because you have spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not as one of your servants.”

Ella le dijo: —Señor mío, me has mostrado tu favor y me has consolado; has hablado al corazón de tu sierva, aunque no soy ni siquiera como una de tus criadas.

14 A t meal time Boaz said to her, “Come here, and eat some bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar.” She sat beside the reapers, and they passed her parched grain, and she ate, and was satisfied, and left some of it.

A la hora de comer Booz le dijo: «Ven aquí, come del pan, y moja tu bocado en el vinagre.» Se sentó ella junto a los segadores, y él le dio del guiso; comió hasta quedar satisfecha y aun sobró.

15 W hen she had risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and don’t reproach her.

Cuando se levantó para seguir espigando, Booz ordenó a sus criados: «Que recoja también espigas entre las gavillas, y no la avergoncéis;

16 A lso pull out some for her from the bundles, and leave it. Let her glean, and don’t rebuke her.”

dejaréis también caer para ella algo de los manojos; dejadlo para que lo recoja, y no la reprendáis.»

17 S o she gleaned in the field until evening; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.

Espigó, pues, en el campo hasta la noche, y cuando desgranó lo que había recogido, era como un efa de cebada.

18 S he took it up, and went into the city. Then her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought out and gave to her that which she had left after she had enough.

Lo tomó y se fue a la ciudad, y su suegra vio lo que había espigado. Luego sacó también lo que le había sobrado después de haber quedado satisfecha, y se lo dio.

19 H er mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? Where have you worked? Blessed be he who noticed you.” She told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.”

Su suegra le preguntó: —¿Dónde has espigado hoy? ¿Dónde has trabajado? ¡Bendito sea el que te ha favorecido! Ella contó a su suegra con quién había trabajado, y añadió: —El hombre con quien he trabajado hoy se llama Booz.

20 N aomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by Yahweh, who has not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead.” Naomi said to her, “The man is a close relative to us, one of our near kinsmen.”

Dijo entonces Noemí a su nuera: —¡Bendito de Jehová, pues que no ha negado a los vivos la benevolencia que tuvo para con los que han muerto! —Ese hombre es pariente nuestro, uno de los que pueden redimirnos —añadió.

21 R uth the Moabitess said, “Yes, he said to me, ‘You shall stay close to my young men, until they have finished all my harvest.’”

Rut la moabita siguió diciendo: —Además de esto me pidió: “Quédate con mis criadas, hasta que hayan acabado toda mi cosecha.”

22 N aomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, and that they not meet you in any other field.”

Respondió Noemí a su nuera Rut: —Mejor es, hija mía, que salgas con sus criadas, y que no te encuentren en otro campo.

23 S o she stayed close to the maidens of Boaz, to glean to the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and she lived with her mother-in-law.

Estuvo espigando, pues, junto con las criadas de Booz, hasta que se acabó la cosecha de la cebada y la del trigo. Y mientras, seguía viviendo con su suegra.
