1 A braham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.

Del lugar donde estaba partió Abraham a la tierra del Neguev, acampó entre Cades y Shur, y habitó como forastero en Gerar.

2 A braham said about Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

Allí Abraham decía de Sara, su mujer: «Es mi hermana.» Entonces Abimelec, rey de Gerar, envió por Sara y la tomó.

3 B ut God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken. For she is a man’s wife.”

Pero Dios vino a Abimelec en sueños, de noche, y le dijo: «Vas a morir a causa de la mujer que has tomado, la cual es casada y tiene marido.»

4 N ow Abimelech had not come near her. He said, “Lord, will you kill even a righteous nation?

Pero como Abimelec no se había llegado a ella, le respondió: «Señor, ¿matarás también al inocente?

5 D idn’t he tell me, ‘She is my sister?’ She, even she herself, said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands have I done this.”

¿No me dijo él: “Mi hermana es”, y ella también dijo: “Es mi hermano”? Con sencillez de mi corazón y con limpieza de mis manos he hecho esto.»

6 G od said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her.

Le dijo Dios en sueños: «Yo también sé que con integridad de tu corazón has hecho esto. Y también yo te detuve de pecar contra mí; por eso no permití que la tocaras.

7 N ow therefore, restore the man’s wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don’t restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours.”

Ahora, pues, devuelve la mujer a su marido, porque es profeta y orará por ti para que vivas. Pero si no la devuelves, debes saber que de cierto morirás tú, y todos los tuyos.»

8 A bimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared.

A la mañana siguiente se levantó Abimelec y llamó a todos sus siervos. Contó todas estas cosas a oídos de ellos, y los hombres sintieron mucho temor.

9 T hen Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!”

Después llamó Abimelec a Abraham y le dijo: —¿Qué nos has hecho? ¿En qué pequé yo contra ti, que has atraído sobre mí y sobre mi reino tan gran pecado? Lo que no debiste hacer, has hecho conmigo.

10 A bimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this thing?”

Dijo también Abimelec a Abraham: —¿Qué pensabas al hacer esto?

11 A braham said, “Because I thought, ‘Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife’s sake.’

Abraham respondió: —Dije para mí: “Ciertamente no hay temor de Dios en este lugar, y me matarán por causa de mi mujer.”

12 B esides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

Pero ella a la verdad es también mi hermana, hija de mi padre aunque no hija de mi madre, y la tomé por mujer.

13 W hen God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is your kindness which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”

Cuando Dios me hizo salir errante de la casa de mi padre, yo le dije: “Te pido este favor: En todos los lugares adonde lleguemos, dirás de mí: ‘Es mi hermano.’”

14 A bimelech took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah, his wife, to him.

Entonces Abimelec tomó ovejas y vacas, siervos y siervas, se los dio a Abraham y le devolvió a Sara, su mujer.

15 A bimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you.”

Y dijo Abimelec: —Mi tierra está delante de ti; habita donde bien te parezca.

16 T o Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated.”

Y a Sara dijo: —He dado mil monedas de plata a tu hermano; mira que él es para ti como un velo ante los ojos de todos los que están contigo, y así quedarás justificada.

17 A braham prayed to God. God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.

Entonces Abraham oró a Dios, y Dios sanó a Abimelec, a su mujer y a sus siervas, las cuales tuvieron hijos,

18 F or Yahweh had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.

porque Jehová, a causa de Sara, mujer de Abraham, había cerrado completamente toda matriz de la casa de Abimelec.
