1 N ow the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?’”

La serpiente era más astuta que todos los animales del campo que Jehová Dios había hecho, y dijo a la mujer: —¿Conque Dios os ha dicho: “No comáis de ningún árbol del huerto”?

2 T he woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden,

La mujer respondió a la serpiente: —Del fruto de los árboles del huerto podemos comer,

3 b ut not the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it. You shall not touch it, lest you die.’”

pero del fruto del árbol que está en medio del huerto dijo Dios: “No comeréis de él, ni lo tocaréis, para que no muráis.”

4 T he serpent said to the woman, “You won’t surely die,

Entonces la serpiente dijo a la mujer: —No moriréis.

5 f or God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Pero Dios sabe que el día que comáis de él serán abiertos vuestros ojos y seréis como Dios, conocedores del bien y el mal.

6 W hen the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.

Al ver la mujer que el árbol era bueno para comer, agradable a los ojos y deseable para alcanzar la sabiduría, tomó de su fruto y comió; y dio también a su marido, el cual comió al igual que ella.

7 T heir eyes were opened, and they both knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made coverings for themselves.

Entonces fueron abiertos los ojos de ambos y se dieron cuenta de que estaban desnudos. Cosieron, pues, hojas de higuera y se hicieron delantales.

8 T hey heard Yahweh God’s voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.

Luego oyeron la voz de Jehová Dios que se paseaba por el huerto, al aire del día; y el hombre y su mujer se escondieron de la presencia de Jehová Dios entre los árboles del huerto.

9 Y ahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”

Pero Jehová Dios llamó al hombre, y le preguntó: —¿Dónde estás?

10 T he man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

Él respondió: —Oí tu voz en el huerto y tuve miedo, porque estaba desnudo; por eso me escondí.

11 G od said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

Entonces Dios le preguntó: —¿Quién te enseñó que estabas desnudo? ¿Acaso has comido del árbol del cual yo te mandé que no comieras?

12 T he man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

El hombre le respondió: —La mujer que me diste por compañera me dio del árbol, y yo comí.

13 Y ahweh God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Entonces Jehová Dios dijo a la mujer: —¿Qué es lo que has hecho? Ella respondió: —La serpiente me engañó, y comí.

14 Y ahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.

Y Jehová Dios dijo a la serpiente: —Por cuanto esto hiciste, maldita serás entre todas las bestias y entre todos los animales del campo. Sobre tu vientre te arrastrarás y polvo comerás todos los días de tu vida.

15 I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”

Pondré enemistad entre ti y la mujer, y entre tu simiente y la simiente suya; ésta te herirá en la cabeza, y tú la herirás en el talón.

16 T o the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you will bear children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

A la mujer dijo: —Multiplicaré en gran manera los dolores en tus embarazos, con dolor darás a luz los hijos, tu deseo será para tu marido y él se enseñoreará de ti.

17 T o Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and ate from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.

Y al hombre dijo: —Por cuanto obedeciste a la voz de tu mujer y comiste del árbol de que te mandé diciendo: “No comerás de él”, maldita será la tierra por tu causa; con dolor comerás de ella todos los días de tu vida,

18 I t will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.

espinos y cardos te producirá y comerás plantas del campo.

19 B y the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Con el sudor de tu rostro comerás el pan, hasta que vuelvas a la tierra, porque de ella fuiste tomado; pues polvo eres y al polvo volverás.

20 T he man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living.

A su mujer Adán le puso por nombre Eva, por cuanto ella fue la madre de todos los vivientes.

21 Y ahweh God made coats of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.

Y Jehová Dios hizo para el hombre y su mujer túnicas de pieles, y los vistió.

22 Y ahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever...”

Luego dijo Jehová Dios: «El hombre ha venido a ser como uno de nosotros, conocedor del bien y el mal; ahora, pues, que no alargue su mano, tome también del árbol de la vida, coma y viva para siempre.»

23 T herefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.

Y lo sacó Jehová del huerto de Edén, para que labrara la tierra de la que fue tomado.

24 S o he drove out the man; and he placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

Echó, pues, fuera al hombre, y puso querubines al oriente del huerto de Edén, y una espada encendida que se revolvía por todos lados para guardar el camino del árbol de la vida.
