1 N ow when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal offspring.

Cuando Atalía, madre de Ocozías, vio que su hijo había muerto, se levantó y destruyó toda la descendencia real.

2 B ut Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were slain, even him and his nurse, and put them in the bedroom; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.

Pero Josaba, hija del rey Joram, hermana de Ocozías, tomó a Joás hijo de Ocozías y lo sacó furtivamente de entre los hijos del rey a quienes estaban matando, y junto con su nodriza lo ocultó de Atalía en el dormitorio, y de esta forma no lo mataron.

3 H e was with her hidden in Yahweh’s house six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.

Seis años estuvo escondido con ella en la casa de Jehová, mientras Atalía reinaba sobre el país.

4 I n the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him into Yahweh’s house; and he made a covenant with them, and made a covenant with them in Yahweh’s house, and showed them the king’s son.

Pero al séptimo año envió a llamar Joiada a los jefes de centena, capitanes y gente de la guardia, los metió consigo en la casa de Jehová. Hizo con ellos una alianza bajo juramento en la casa de Jehová, y les mostró al hijo del rey.

5 H e commanded them, saying, “This is what you must do: a third of you, who come in on the Sabbath, shall be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;

Luego les mandó: «Esto es lo que habéis de hacer: la tercera parte de vosotros estará de guardia de la casa del rey el sábado.

6 a third of you shall be at the gate Sur; and a third of you at the gate behind the guard. So you shall keep the watch of the house, and be a barrier.

Otra tercera parte estará a la puerta de Shur, y la otra tercera parte a la puerta del cuartel de la guardia; así guardaréis la casa, para que no sea allanada.

7 T he two companies of you, even all who go out on the Sabbath, shall keep the watch of Yahweh’s house around the king.

Pero las dos secciones de vosotros que salen de guardia el sábado tendréis la guardia de la casa de Jehová, junto al rey.

8 Y ou shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he who comes within the ranks, let him be slain. Be with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in.”

Estaréis alrededor del rey por todos lados, cada uno con sus armas en la mano, y cualquiera que penetre en las filas, morirá. Acompañaréis al rey cuando salga y cuando entre.»

9 T he captains over hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they each took his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath, with those who were to go out on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

Los jefes de centenas hicieron todo como el sacerdote Joiada les había mandado. Cada uno tomó a los suyos, esto es, a los que entraban el sábado y a los que salían el sábado, y vinieron junto al sacerdote Joiada.

10 T he priest delivered to the captains over hundreds the spears and shields that had been king David’s, which were in Yahweh’s house.

El sacerdote dio a los jefes de centena las lanzas y los escudos que habían pertenecido al rey David y estaban en la casa de Jehová.

11 T he guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, around the king.

Los de la guardia se pusieron en fila, cada uno con sus armas en la mano, desde el lado derecho hasta el lado izquierdo de la Casa, junto al altar y el Templo, alrededor del rey.

12 T hen he brought out the king’s son, and put the crown on him, and gave him the covenant; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, “Long live the king!”

Sacó entonces Joiada al hijo del rey, le puso la corona y el Testimonio, y ungiéndolo lo hicieron rey. Luego batieron palmas y gritaron: «¡Viva el rey!»

13 W hen Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into Yahweh’s house:

Cuando Atalía oyó el estruendo del pueblo que corría, entró al templo de Jehová, donde estaban todos.

14 a nd she looked, and behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the tradition was, with the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes, and cried, “Treason! Treason!”

Miró y vio al rey, que estaba junto a la columna, conforme a la costumbre, a los príncipes y los trompeteros junto al rey, y a todo el pueblo del país que se regocijaba y tocaba las trompetas. Entonces Atalía, rasgando sus vestidos, clamó a voz en cuello: «¡Traición, traición!»

15 J ehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, “Bring her out between the ranks. Kill anyone who follows her with the sword.” For the priest said, “Don’t let her be slain in Yahweh’s house.”

Pero el sacerdote Joiada ordenó a los jefes de centena que gobernaban el ejército: «Sacadla fuera del recinto del Templo, y al que la siga, matadlo a espada.» Como el sacerdote había dicho que no la mataran en el templo de Jehová,

16 S o they made way for her; and she went by the way of the horses’ entry to the king’s house, and she was slain there.

le abrieron paso y la mataron en el camino por donde entran los de a caballo a la casa del rey.

17 J ehoiada made a covenant between Yahweh and the king and the people, that they should be Yahweh’s people; also between the king and the people.

Entonces Joiada hizo un pacto entre Jehová, el rey y el pueblo, que sería el pueblo de Jehová; asimismo entre el rey y el pueblo.

18 A ll the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and broke it down; his altars and his images broke they in pieces thoroughly, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. The priest appointed officers over Yahweh’s house.

Luego todo el pueblo de la tierra entró en el templo de Baal y lo derribaron. También despedazaron completamente sus altares y sus imágenes, y mataron a Matán, sacerdote de Baal, delante de los altares. Después el sacerdote puso una guardia en la casa de Jehová,

19 H e took the captains over hundreds, and the Carites, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from Yahweh’s house, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. He sat on the throne of the kings.

tomó a los jefes de centenas, los capitanes, la guardia y todo el pueblo del país, y llevaron al rey, por el camino de la puerta de la guardia, desde la casa de Jehová hasta la casa del rey. Y se sentó Joás en el trono de los reyes.

20 S o all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. They had slain Athaliah with the sword at the king’s house.

Todo el pueblo de la tierra se regocijó. Y como Atalía había muerto a espada junto a la casa del rey, la ciudad permaneció tranquila.

21 J ehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.

Siete años tenía Joás cuando comenzó a reinar.
