1 N ow in the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal offspring and one of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they ate bread together in Mizpah.

І сталося сьомого місяця, прийшов Ізмаїл, син Нетанії, сина Елішамового, з насіння царського, і вельможі царя, та десять люда з ним, до Ґедалії, Ахікамового сина, до Міцпи, і їли там разом хліб у Міцпі.

2 T hen arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

І встав Ізмаїл, син Нетаніїн, і десять люда, що були з ним, та й ударили Ґедалію, сина Ахікама, сина Шафанового, мечем! І вбив він того, кого вавилонський цар настановив був начальником над Краєм...

3 I shmael also killed all the Jews who were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.

І повбивав Ізмаїл усіх юдеїв, що були з ним, з Ґедалією, у Міцпі, і халдеїв вояків, що знаходилися там.

4 T he second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

І сталося другого дня по вбивстві Ґедалії, а ніхто про це не знав,

5 m en came from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even eighty men, having their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with meal offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to Yahweh’s house.

і поприходили люди з Сихему, з Шіло та з Самарії, вісімдесят люда оголенобородих, і в подертій одежі та з нарізаними знаками на тілі, а в їхній руці хлібна жертва та ладан, як принесення для Господнього дому.

6 I shmael the son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and as he met them, he said to them, “Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.”

І вийшов Ізмаїл, син Нетаніїн, навпроти них з Міцпи, ідучи та плачучи. І сталося, коли він спіткав їх, то промовив до них: Прийдіть до Ґедалії, Ахікамового сина!

7 I t was so, when they came into the middle of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah killed them, and cast them into the middle of the pit, he, and the men who were with him.

І сталося, як прийшли вони до середини міста, то їх порізав Ізмаїл, син Нетаніїн, і повкидав їх до середини ями, він та ті люди, що були з ним...

8 B ut ten men were found among those who said to Ishmael, Don’t kill us; for we have stores hidden in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he stopped, and didn’t kill them among their brothers.

Та знайшлося між ними десять люда, і вони сказали до Ізмаїла: Не вбивай нас, бо ми маємо заховані в полі скарби: пшеницю, і ячмінь, і оливу, і мед. І той спинився, і не повбивав їх серед їхніх братів.

9 N ow the pit in which Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had killed, by the side of Gedaliah (the same was who which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel), Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with those who were killed.

А та яма, куди повкидав Ізмаїл усі трупи тих людей, була яма велика, яку зробив був цар Аса проти Баеші, Ізраїльського царя, її наповнив Ізмаїл, син Нетаніїн, трупами.

10 T hen Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people who were in Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people who remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

І Ізмаїл узяв у полон усю решту народу, що був у Міцпі, царських дочок та ввесь народ, що зостався в Міцпі, якого Невузар'адан, начальник царської сторожі, доручив був Ґедалії, синові Ахікамовому. І забрав їх у полон Ізмаїл, син Нетаніїн, і пішов, щоб перейти до Аммонових синів.

11 B ut when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,

І почув Йоханан, син Кареахів, та всі військові зверхники, що були з ним, про все те зло, що зробив Ізмаїл, син Нетаніїн.

12 t hen they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.

І взяли вони всіх тих людей, і пішли воювати з Ізмаїлом, сином Нетаніїним, і знайшли його при великій воді, що в Ґів'оні.

13 N ow when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, then they were glad.

І сталося, як увесь народ, що був з Ізмаїлом, побачив Йоханана, сина Кареахового, та всіх військових зверхників, що були з ним, то зрадів.

14 S o all the people who Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

І відвернувся ввесь народ, якого взяв був до полону Ізмаїл з Міцпи, і вернулися, і пішли до Йоханана, сина Кареахового.

15 B ut Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.

А Ізмаїл, син Нетаніїн, утік з вісьмома людьми від Йоханана, і пішов до Аммонових синів.

16 T hen took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon:

І взяв Йоханан, син Кареахів, та всі військові зверхники, що були з ним, усю решту народу, яку він вернув від Ізмаїла, сина Нетаніїного, з Міцпи, по тому, як той убив Ґедалію, сина Ахікамового, мужів вояків, і жінок, і дітей, і евнухів, що вернув з Ґів'ону.

17 a nd they departed, and lived in Geruth Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,

І пішли вони й стали на нічліг в Ґерут-Кімгамі, що при Віфлеємі, щоб піти й утікти до Єгипту

18 b ecause of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor over the land.

від халдеїв, бо вони боялися їх, бо Ізмаїл, син Нетаніїв, убив Ґедалію, сина Ахікамового, якого вавилонський цар настановив був начальником над Краєм.
