1 Х ліб свій пускай по воді, бо по багатьох днях знов знайдеш його.

Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days.

2 Д авай частку на сім чи й на вісім, бо не знаєш, яке буде зло на землі.

Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, For you do not know what evil will be on the earth.

3 К оли переповняться хмари дощем, то виллють на землю його. А коли деревина на південь впаде чи на північ, залишиться на місці, куди деревина впаде.

If the clouds are full of rain, They empty themselves upon the earth; And if a tree falls to the south or the north, In the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie.

4 Х то вважає на вітер, не буде той сіяти, а хто споглядає на хмари, не буде той жати.

He who observes the wind will not sow, And he who regards the clouds will not reap.

5 Я к не відаєш ти, яка то путь вітру, як кості зростають в утробі вагітної, так не відаєш ти чину Бога, що робить усе.

As you do not know what is the way of the wind, Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.

6 С ій ранком насіння своє, та й під вечір хай не спочиває рука твоя, не знаєш бо ти, котре вийде на краще тобі, оце чи оте, чи обоє однаково добрі.

In the morning sow your seed, And in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, Either this or that, Or whether both alike will be good.

7 І світло солодке, і добре очам сонце бачити,

Truly the light is sweet, And it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun;

8 і коли б людина жила й довгі роки, хай за всіх їх вона тішиться, і хай пам'ятає дні темряви, бо їх буде багато, усе, що надійде, марнота!

But if a man lives many years And rejoices in them all, Yet let him remember the days of darkness, For they will be many. All that is coming is vanity. Seek God in Early Life

9 Т ішся, юначе, своїм молодецтвом, а серце твоє нехай буде веселе за днів молодощів твоїх! І ходи ти дорогами серця свого й видінням очей своїх, але знай, що за все це впровадить тебе Бог до суду!

Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, And in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment.

10 Т ому жени смуток від серця свого, і віддаляй зле від тіла твого, бо й дитинство, і рання життєва зоря то марнота!

Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, And put away evil from your flesh, For childhood and youth are vanity.
