1 ¶ Then all the sons of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan to Beersheba and the land of Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpeh.

И вышли все сыны Израилевы, и собралось общество, как один человек, от Дана до Вирсавии, и земля Галаадская пред Господа в Массифу.

2 A nd the chief of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, were present in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.

И собрались начальники всего народа, все колена Израилевы, в собрание народа Божия, четыреста тысяч пеших, обнажающих меч.

3 ( Now the sons of Benjamin heard that the sons of Israel were gone up to Mizpeh.) Then the sons of Israel said, Tell us, how was this wickedness?

И сыны Вениаминовы услышали, что сыны Израилевы пришли в Массифу. И сказали сыны Израилевы: скажите, как происходило это зло?

4 A nd the Levite, the husband of the woman that was murdered, answered and said, I came into Gibeah of Benjamin with my concubine to pass the night there.

Левит, муж оной убитой женщины, отвечал и сказал: я с наложницею моею пришел ночевать в Гиву Вениаминову;

5 A nd the men of Gibeah rose up against me and beset the house round about upon me by night and thought to have slain me, and they have forced my concubine in such a manner that she is dead.

и восстали на меня жители Гивы и окружили из-за меня дом ночью; меня намеревались убить, и наложницу мою замучили, так, что она умерла;

6 T hen I took my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout all the country of the possession of Israel, for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.

я взял наложницу мою, разрезал ее и послал ее во все области владения Израилева, ибо они сделали беззаконное и срамное дело в Израиле;

7 B ehold, all ye sons of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.

вот все вы, сыны Израилевы, рассмотрите это дело и решите здесь.

8 T hen all the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn into his house

И восстал весь народ, как один человек, и сказал: не пойдем никто в шатер свой и не возвратимся никто в дом свой;

9 u ntil we do this upon Gibeah that we cast lots against it;

и вот что мы сделаем ныне с Гивою: на нее по жребию;

10 a nd we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch provisions for the people that shall go against Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.

и возьмем по десяти человек из ста от всех колен Израилевых, по сто от тысячи и по тысяче от тьмы, чтоб они принесли съестных припасов для народа, который пойдет против Гивы Вениаминовой, наказать ее за срамное дело, которое она сделала в Израиле.

11 S o all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

И собрались все Израильтяне против города единодушно, как один человек.

12 ¶ And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?

И послали колена Израилевы во все колено Вениаминово сказать: какое это гнусное дело сделано у вас!

13 N ow therefore deliver us those men, the sons of Belial, who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and put away the evil from Israel. But the sons of Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren, the sons of Israel;

Выдайте развращенных оных людей, которые в Гиве; мы умертвим их и искореним зло из Израиля. Но сыны Вениаминовы не хотели послушать голоса братьев своих, сынов Израилевых;

14 b ut the sons of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities in Gibeah to go out to battle against the sons of Israel.

а собрались сыны Вениаминовы из городов в Гиву, чтобы пойти войною против сынов Израилевых.

15 A nd the sons of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities twenty-six thousand men that drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.

И насчиталось в тот день сынов Вениаминовых, из городов, двадцать шесть тысяч человек, обнажающих меч; кроме того, из жителей Гивы насчитано семьсот отборных;

16 A mong all this people there were seven hundred chosen men with their right hands impeded (they were lefthanded); each one could sling stones at a hairs breadth, and not miss.

из всего народа сего было семьсот человек отборных, которые были левши, и все сии, бросая из пращей камни в волос, не бросали мимо.

17 A nd the men of Israel, not counting Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword; all these were men of war.

Израильтян же, кроме сынов Вениаминовых, насчиталось четыреста тысяч человек, обнажающих меч; все они были способны к войне.

18 ¶ Then the sons of Israel arose and went up to the house of God and asked counsel of God and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the sons of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.

И встали и пошли в дом Божий, и вопрошали Бога и сказали сыны Израилевы: кто из нас прежде пойдет на войну с сынами Вениамина? И сказал Господь: Иуда впереди.

19 A nd the sons of Israel rose up in the morning and encamped against Gibeah.

И встали сыны Израилевы поутру и расположились станом подле Гивы;

20 A nd the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in order to fight against them at Gibeah.

и выступили Израильтяне на войну против Вениамина, и стали сыны Израилевы в боевой порядок близ Гивы.

21 A nd the sons of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah and destroyed down to the ground twenty-two thousand men of the Israelites that day.

И вышли сыны Вениаминовы из Гивы и положили в тот день двадцать две тысячи Израильтян на землю.

22 A nd the people encouraged themselves, and the men of Israel set their battle again in order in the place where they put themselves in order the first day.

Но народ Израильский ободрился, и опять стали в боевой порядок на том месте, где стояли в прежний день.

23 ( And the sons of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until evening and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the sons of Benjamin, my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)

И пошли сыны Израилевы, и плакали пред Господом до вечера, и вопрошали Господа: вступать ли мне еще в сражение с сынами Вениамина, брата моего? Господь сказал: идите против него.

24 A nd the sons of Israel came near against the sons of Benjamin the second day.

И подступили сыны Израилевы к сынам Вениамина во второй день.

25 A nd Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day and again destroyed down to the ground eighteen thousand of the sons of Israel; all these drew the sword.

Вениамин вышел против них из Гивы во второй день, и еще положили на землю из сынов Израилевых восемнадцать тысяч человек, обнажающих меч.

26 ¶ Then all the sons of Israel and all the people went up and came unto the house of God and wept and sat there before the LORD and fasted that day until evening and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

Тогда все сыны Израилевы и весь народ пошли и пришли в дом Божий и, сидя там, плакали пред Господом, и постились в тот день до вечера, и вознесли всесожжения и мирные жертвы пред Господом.

27 A nd the sons of Israel enquired of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,

И вопрошали сыны Израилевы Господа (в то время ковчег завета Божия находился там,

28 a nd Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the sons of Benjamin, my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into thy hand.

и Финеес, сын Елеазара, сына Ааронова, предстоял пред ним): выходить ли мне еще на сражение с сынами Вениамина, брата моего, или нет? Господь сказал: идите; Я завтра предам его в руки ваши.

29 A nd Israel set ambushes round about Gibeah.

И поставил Израиль засаду вокруг Гивы.

30 A nd the sons of Israel went up against the sons of Benjamin on the third day and put themselves in order against Gibeah as at the other times.

И пошли сыны Израилевы на сынов Вениамина в третий день и стали в боевой порядок пред Гивою, как прежде.

31 A nd the sons of Benjamin went out against the people and were drawn away from the city, and they began to smite of the people and kill as at the other times in the highways, one of which goes up to the house of God and the other to Gibeah by the field, and they killed about thirty men of Israel.

Сыны Вениаминовы выступили против народа и отдалились от города, и начали, как прежде, убивать из народа на дорогах, из которых одна идет к Вефилю, а другая к Гиве полем, и до тридцати человек из Израильтян.

32 A nd the sons of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us as at the first. But the sons of Israel said, Let us flee and draw them from the city unto the highways.

И сказали сыны Вениаминовы: они падают пред нами, как и прежде. А сыны Израилевы сказали: побежим от них и отвлечем их от города на дороги.

33 T hen all the men of Israel rose up out of their place and put themselves in order at Baaltamar, and also those of the ambushes of Israel came forth out of their place, out of the meadows of Gibeah.

И все Израильтяне встали с своего места и выстроились в Ваал-Фамаре. И засада Израилева устремилась из своего места, с западной стороны Гивы.

34 A nd ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel came against Gibeah, and the battle was sore; but they did not know that evil was near them.

И пришли пред Гиву десять тысяч человек отборных из всего Израиля, и началось жестокое сражение; но не знали, что предстоит им беда.

35 A nd the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel, and the sons of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men; all these drew the sword.

И поразил Господь Вениамина пред Израильтянами, и положили в тот день Израильтяне из сынов Вениамина двадцать пять тысяч сто человек, обнажавших меч.

36 S o the sons of Benjamin saw that they were smitten, for the men of Israel had given place to the Benjamites because they trusted those of the ambushes which they had set behind Gibeah.

Когда сыны Вениамина увидели, что они поражены, тогда Израильтяне уступили место сынам Вениамина, ибо надеялись на засаду, которую они поставили близ Гивы.

37 T hen the men of the ambushes rushed upon Gibeah and spread out and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.

Засада же поспешила и устремилась к Гиве, и вступила и поразила весь город мечом.

38 N ow there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the men of the ambushes that they should make a great signal by causing much smoke to rise up out of the city.

Израильтяне поставили с засадою знаком к нападению поднимающийся дым из города.

39 T hen when the men of Israel turned their backs in the battle and those of Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons, for they said, Surely they are smitten down before us as in the first battle.

Итак, когда Израильтяне отступили с места сражения, и Вениамин начал поражать и поверг Израильтян до тридцати человек и говорил: 'опять падают они пред нами, как и в прежние сражения',

40 B ut when the signal began to arise up out of the city, a pillar of smoke, those of Benjamin looked behind them, and, behold, the whole consumption of the city ascended up to heaven.

тогда начал подниматься из города дым столбом. Вениамин оглянулся назад, и вот, от всего города восходит к небу.

41 T hen the men of Israel turned again, and the men of Benjamin were terrified, for they saw that evil was come upon them.

Израильтяне воротились, а Вениамин оробел, ибо увидел, что постигла его беда.

42 T herefore, they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness, but the battle overtook them, and those who came out of the cities they destroyed in the midst of them.

И побежали они от Израильтян по дороге к пустыне; но сеча преследовала их, и выходившие из городов побивали их там;

43 T hus they inclosed those of Benjamin round about and chased them and trode them down with ease over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.

окружили Вениамина, и преследовали его до Менухи и поражали до самой восточной стороны Гивы.

44 A nd there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valour.

И пало из сынов Вениамина восемнадцать тысяч человек, людей сильных.

45 A nd they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon; and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men and pursued hard after them unto Gidom, and slew two thousand men of them.

оборотились и побежали к пустыне, к скале Риммону, и побили еще на дорогах пять тысяч человек; и гнались за ними до Гидома и еще убили из них две тысячи человек.

46 S o that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.

Всех же сынов Вениаминовых, павших в тот день, было двадцать пять тысяч человек, обнажавших меч, и все они были мужи сильные.

47 B ut six hundred men turned and fled to the wilderness unto the rock Rimmon and abode in the rock Rimmon four months.

И и убежали в пустыню, к скале Риммону, шестьсот человек, и оставались там в каменной горе Риммоне четыре месяца.

48 A nd the men of Israel turned again upon the sons of Benjamin and smote them with the edge of the sword, men and beasts in every city and all that was found; they also set on fire all the cities that they came to.

Израильтяне же опять пошли к сынам Вениаминовым и поразили их мечом, и людей в городе, и скот, и все, что ни встречалось, и все находившиеся города сожгли огнем.
