1 ¶ After these things, when the wrath of King Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti and what she had done and what was decreed against her.

После сего, когда утих гнев царя Артаксеркса, он вспомнил об Астинь и о том, что она сделала, и что было определено о ней.

2 T hen the king’s servants that ministered unto him said, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king,

И сказали отроки царя, служившие при нем: пусть бы поискали царю молодых красивых девиц,

3 a nd let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan, the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege, the king’s eunuch, keeper of the women; and let them be given that which is necessary for their purification;

и пусть бы назначил царь наблюдателей во все области своего царства, которые собрали бы всех молодых девиц, красивых видом, в престольный город Сузы, в дом жен под надзор Гегая, царского евнуха, стража жен, и пусть бы выдавали им притиранья,

4 a nd let the maiden which pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king, and he did so.

и девица, которая понравится глазам царя, пусть будет царицею вместо Астинь. И угодно было слово это в глазах царя, и он так и сделал.

5 N ow in Shushan, the palace, there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;

Был в Сузах, городе престольном, один Иудеянин, имя его Мардохей, сын Иаира, сын Семея, сын Киса, из колена Вениаминова.

6 w ho had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah, king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had carried away.

Он был переселен из Иерусалима вместе с пленниками, выведенными с Иехониею, царем Иудейским, которых переселил Навуходоносор, царь Вавилонский.

7 A nd he had brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter; for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; and as her father and mother were dead, Mordecai had taken her for his own daughter.

И был он воспитателем Гадассы, --она же Есфирь, --дочери дяди его, так как не было у нее ни отца, ни матери. Девица эта была красива станом и пригожа лицем. И по смерти отца ее и матери ее, Мардохей взял ее к себе вместо дочери.

8 S o it came to pass, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan, the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king’s house to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.

Когда объявлено было повеление царя и указ его, и когда собраны были многие девицы в престольный город Сузы под надзор Гегая, тогда взята была и Есфирь в царский дом под надзор Гегая, стража жен.

9 A nd the maiden pleased him, and she found mercy before him; and he speedily gave her that which was necessary for purification and her rations, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her out of the king’s house; and he moved her and her maids into the best place of the house of the women.

И понравилась эта девица глазам его и приобрела у него благоволение, и он поспешил выдать ей притиранья и часть ее, и приставить к ней семь девиц, достойных быть при ней, из дома царского, и переместил ее и девиц ее в лучшее отделение женского дома.

10 E sther had not declared her people nor her birth, for Mordecai had charged her that she should not declare it.

Не сказывала Есфирь ни о народе своем, ни о родстве своем, потому что Мардохей дал ей приказание, чтобы она не сказывала.

11 A nd Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house to know the peace of Esther and what was done with her.

И всякий день Мардохей приходил ко двору женского дома, чтобы наведываться о здоровье Есфири и о том, что делается с нею.

12 N ow when each maid’s turn was come to go in to King Ahasuerus, after she had been twelve months according to the law regarding the women (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, that is, six months with oil of myrrh and six months with aromatic odours and oils for women),

Когда наступало время каждой девице входить к царю Артаксерксу, после того, как в течение двенадцати месяцев выполнено было над нею все, определенное женщинам, --ибо столько времени продолжались дни притиранья их: шесть месяцев мирровым маслом и шесть месяцев ароматами и другими притираньями женскими, --

13 t hen thus came each maiden unto the king; whatever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king’s house.

тогда девица входила к царю. Чего бы она ни потребовала, ей давали всё для выхода из женского дома в дом царя.

14 I n the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s eunuch, who kept the concubines; she came in unto the king no more, unless the king delighted in her and called for her by name.

Вечером она входила и утром возвращалась в другой дом женский под надзор Шаазгаза, царского евнуха, стража наложниц; и уже не входила к царю, разве только царь пожелал бы ее, и она призывалась бы по имени.

15 N ow when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail, the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai, the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained grace in the sight of all those that looked upon her.

Когда настало время Есфири, дочери Аминадава, дяди Мардохея, который взял ее к себе вместо дочери, --идти к царю, тогда она не просила ничего, кроме того, о чем сказал ей Гегай, евнух царский, страж жен. И приобрела Есфирь расположение в глазах всех, видевших ее.

16 S o Esther was taken unto King Ahasuerus into his royal house in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

И взята была Есфирь к царю Артаксерксу, в царский дом его, в десятом месяце, то есть в месяце Тебефе, в седьмой год его царствования.

17 A nd the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and mercy in his sight more than did all the other virgins so that he set the crown of the kingdom upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.

И полюбил царь Есфирь более всех жен, и она приобрела его благоволение и благорасположение более всех девиц; и он возложил царский венец на голову ее и сделал ее царицею на место Астинь.

18 T hen the king made a great banquet unto all his princes and his slaves, the banquet of Esther; and he made a release to the provinces of their taxes and gave gifts according to the power of the king.

И сделал царь большой пир для всех князей своих и для служащих при нем, --пир ради Есфири, и сделал льготу областям и роздал дары с царственною щедростью.

19 A nd when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai sat in the king’s gate.

И когда во второй раз собраны были девицы, и Мардохей сидел у ворот царских,

20 E sther had not yet declared her birth nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her; for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai as when she was being brought up with him.

Есфирь все еще не сказывала о родстве своем и о народе своем, как приказал ей Мардохей; а слово Мардохея Есфирь выполняла так же, как тогда, когда была у него на воспитании.

21 ¶ In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth and sought to lay hand on King Ahasuerus.

В это время, как Мардохей сидел у ворот царских, два царских евнуха, Гавафа и Фарра, оберегавшие порог, озлобились, и замышляли наложить руку на царя Артаксеркса.

22 A nd the thing was known by Mordecai, who told it unto Esther, the queen; and Esther notified the king of this in Mordecai’s name.

Узнав о том, Мардохей сообщил царице Есфири, а Есфирь сказала царю от имени Мардохея.

23 A nd when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore, they were both hanged on a tree; and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.

Дело было исследовано и найдено, и их обоих повесили на дереве. И было вписано о благодеянии Мардохея в книгу дневных записей у царя.
