1 T hen Zophar the Naamathite answered,

Ţofar din Naama a luat cuvîntul şi a zis:

2 “ My troubled thoughts make me answer, because I have no rest inside.

Gîndurile mele mă silesc să răspund, şi frămîntarea mea nu-mi dă pace.

3 I heard the strong words that take away my honor. The spirit of my understanding makes me answer.

Am auzit mustrări cari mă umplu de ruşine, şi din adîncul minţii mele duhul mă face să răspund.

4 D o you not know from long ago, since man was put on earth,

Nu ştii tu că, de mult de tot, de cînd a fost aşezat omul pe pămînt,

5 t hat the honor of the sinful is short, and the joy of the sinful lasts only a short time?

biruinţa celor răi a fost scurtă, şi bucuria nelegiuitului numai de o clipă?

6 E ven if his pride is as high as the heavens and his head touches the clouds,

Chiar dacă s'ar înălţa pînă la ceruri, şi capul i-ar ajunge pînă la nori,

7 h e will be gone forever, like his own waste. Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’

va pieri pentru totdeauna, ca murdăria lui, şi cei ce -l vedeau vor zice:, Unde este?`

8 H e will fly away like a dream, and not be found. He will be driven away like a dream of the night.

Va sbura ca un vis, şi nu -l vor mai găsi; va pieri ca o vedenie de noapte.

9 T he eye which saw him will see him no more. His place will no longer see him.

Ochiul care -l privea nu -l va mai privi, locul în care locuia nu -l va mai zări.

10 H is sons will look for the favor of the poor. And his hands will give back his riches.

Peste fiii lui vor năvăli cei săraci, şi mînile lui vor da înapoi ce a răpit cu sila.

11 H is bones are full of the strength of the young, but it will lie down with him in the dust.

Oasele lui, pline de vlaga tinereţii, îşi vor avea culcuşul cu el în ţărînă.

12 “ Sin is sweet in his mouth. He hides it under his tongue.

Dulce era răul în gura lui, îl ascundea subt limbă,

13 H e hates to let it go, and holds it in his mouth.

îl mesteca într'una şi nu -l lăsa, îl ţinea în cerul gurii:

14 Y et his food in his stomach is changed to the poison of snakes inside him.

dar hrana lui se va preface în măruntaiele lui, va ajunge în trupul lui o otravă de aspidă.

15 H e eats riches, but will spit them up. God will take them out of his stomach.

Bogăţiile înghiţite le va vărsa, Dumnezeu le va scoate din pîntecele lui.

16 H e will drink the poison of snakes. The snake’s tongue will kill him.

Otravă de aspidă a supt, şi de aceea, limba năpîrcii îl va ucide.

17 H e will not look at the rivers, the rivers flowing with honey and milk.

Nu-şi va mai plimba privirile peste pîraiele şi rîurile de miere şi de lapte,

18 H e must return what he has worked for, and can not eat it. He will not have joy from the riches of his trading.

va da înapoi ce a cîştigat, şi nu va mai trage folos din cîştig; va da înapoi tot ce a luat, şi nu se va mai bucura de el,

19 F or he has taken from the poor and left them with nothing. He has taken houses which he has not built.

căci a asuprit pe săraci, şi i -a lăsat să piară, a dărîmat case şi nu le -a zidit la loc.

20 “ Because he thought he never had enough, he has nothing that gives him joy.

Lăcomia lui n'a cunoscut margini; dar nu va scăpa ce are mai scump.

21 T here was nothing more for him to get, so his having everything will not last.

Nimic nu scapă de lăcomia lui, dar bună starea lui nu va ţinea.

22 E ven when he has many riches, he will have trouble. Everyone who suffers will come against him.

În mijlocul belşugului va fi în nevoie; mîna tuturor ticăloşilor se va ridica asupra lui.

23 W hen he fills his stomach, God will send His great anger on him. He will send it on him while he is eating.

Şi iată, ca să -i umple pîntecele, Dumnezeu va trimete peste el focul mîniei Lui, şi -l va sătura cu o ploaie de săgeţi.

24 H e may get away from the iron sword, but the brass bow will shoot an arrow in him.

Dacă va scăpa de armele de fer, îl va străpunge arcul de aramă.

25 I t cuts through his body and comes out of his back. The shining arrow comes out of his liver. Much fear comes upon him.

Îşi smulge din trup săgeata, care schinteie la ieşirea din fierea lui, şi îl apucă spaimele morţii.

26 C omplete darkness is stored up for his riches. A fire not kept going by man will burn him up. It will destroy all that is left in his tent.

Toate nenorocirile sînt păstrate pentru comorile lui; va fi mistuit de un foc pe care nu -l va aprinde omul,

27 T he heavens will make his sin known, and the earth will rise up against him.

Cerurile îi vor desveli fărădelegea, şi pămîntul se va ridica împotriva lui.

28 T he things of his house will be carried away. They will be taken away in the day of God’s anger.

Veniturile casei lui se vor perde, vor pieri în ziua mîniei lui Dumnezeu.

29 T his is what God has for sinful men. It is what God chooses to give to them.”

Aceasta este soarta pe care o păstrează Dumnezeu celui rău, aceasta este moştenirea pe care i -o hotărăşte Dumnezeu.``
