1 S amuel said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to choose you to be king over His people Israel. Now listen to the Words of the Lord.

Samuel a zis lui Saul:,, Pe mine m'a trimes Domnul să te ung împărat peste poporul Lui, peste Israel: Ascultă dar ce zice Domnul.

2 T his is what the Lord of All says. ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel in standing against them on the way, when they came up from Egypt.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor:, Mi-aduc aminte de ceeace a făcut Amalec lui Israel, cînd i -a astupat drumul la ieşirea lui din Egipt.

3 N ow go and destroy Amalek. Destroy all they have, and do not let them live. Kill both man and woman, child and baby, cattle and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

Du-te acum, bate pe Amalec, şi nimiceşte cu desăvîrşire tot ce -i al lui; să nu -i cruţi, şi să omori bărbaţii şi femeile, copiii şi pruncii, cămilele şi măgarii, boii şi oile.``

4 S o Saul called the people together and numbered them in Telaim. There were 200, 000 foot soldiers and 10, 000 men of Judah.

Saul a adunat poporul, şi l -a numărat la Telaim: erau două sute de mii de oameni pedeştri, şi zece mii de oameni din Iuda.

5 S aul came to the city of Amalek and hid, waiting in the valley.

Saul a mers pînă la cetatea lui Amalec, şi a pus nişte oameni la pîndă în vale.

6 S aul said to the Kenites, “Go, leave the Amalekites, or I might destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the people of Israel when they came up from Egypt.” So the Kenites left the Amalekites.

Şi a zis Cheniţilor:,, Duceţi-vă, plecaţi şi ieşiţi din mijlocul lui Amalec, ca să nu vă prăpădesc împreună cu el; căci... voi v'aţi purtat cu bunăvoinţă faţă de copiii lui Israel, cînd s'au suit din Egipt``. Şi Cheniţii au plecat din mijlocul lui Amalec.

7 T hen Saul destroyed the Amalekites, from Havilah as far as Shur, east of Egypt.

Saul a bătut pe Amalec, dela Havila pînă la Şur..., care este în faţa Egiptului.

8 H e took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and destroyed all the people with the sword.

A prins viu pe Agag, împăratul lui Amalec, şi a nimicit cu desăvîrşire tot poporul, trecîndu -l prin ascuţişul săbiei.

9 B ut Saul and the people did not kill Agag and the best of the sheep, the cattle, the fat animals ready to be killed, the lambs, and all that was good. They would not destroy them. But they destroyed everything that was hated and was of no worth. Saul Is No Longer King

Dar Saul şi poporul au cruţat pe Agag, şi oile cele mai bune, boii cei mai buni, vitele grase, mieii graşi, şi tot ce era mai bun; n'a vrut să le nimicească cu desvîrşire şi au nimicit numai tot ce era prost şi nebăgat în seamă.

10 T he Word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying,

Domnul a vorbit lui Samuel, şi i -a zis:

11 “ I am sorry that I have made Saul king. For he has turned away from following Me. He has not done what I told him to do.” Samuel was much troubled in his heart. He cried out to the Lord all night.

mi pare rău că am pus pe Saul împărat, căci se abate dela Mine şi nu păzeşte... cuvintele Mele``. Samuel s'a mîhnit......, şi toată noaptea a strigat către Domnul.

12 W hen Samuel got up early in the morning to meet Saul, he was told, “Saul came to Carmel and set up a stone in his honor. Then he turned and went down to Gilgal.”

S'a sculat dis de dimineaţă, ca să se ducă înaintea lui Saul. Şi au venit şi i-au spus:,, Saul s'a dus la Carmel, şi iată că şi -a înălţat un semn de biruinţă, apoi s'a întors, şi, trecînd mai departe, s'a pogorît la Ghilgal``.

13 S amuel came to Saul, and Saul said to him, “May the Lord bring good to you. I have done what the Lord told me to do.”

Samuel s'a dus la Saul, şi Saul i -a zis:,, Fii binecuvîntat de Domnul! Am păzit cuvîntul Domnului``.

14 B ut Samuel said, “Then why do I hear the sounds of sheep and cattle?”

Samuel a zis:,, Ce înseamnă behăitul acesta de oi care ajunge la urechile mele, şi mugetul acesta de boi pe care -l aud?``

15 S aul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites. For the people saved the best of the sheep and cattle to give to the Lord your God. But we have destroyed all the rest.”

Saul a răspuns:,, Le-au adus dela Amaleciţi, pentrucă poporul a cruţat oile cele mai bune şi boii cei mai buni, ca să -i jertfească Domnului, Dumnezeului tău; iar pe celelate, le-am nimicit cu desăvîrşire``.

16 T hen Samuel said to Saul, “Stop! I will tell you what the Lord said to me last night.” And Saul said to him, “Speak.”

Samuel a zis lui Saul:,, Stai, şi-ţi voi spune ce mi -a zis Domnul astănoapte``. Şi Saul i -a zis:,, Vorbeşte``.

17 S amuel said, “Is it not true that even when you were not important in your own eyes, you were made the head of the families of Israel? The Lord chose you to be king over Israel.

Samuel a zis:,, Cînd erai mic în ochii tăi, n'ai ajuns tu căpetenia seminţiilor lui Israel, şi nu te -a uns Domnul ca să fii împărat peste Israel?

18 A nd the Lord sent you to go and destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are no more.

Domnul te trimisese, zicînd:, Du-te, şi nimiceşte cu desăvîrşire pe păcătoşii aceia, pe Amaleciţi; războieşte-te cu ei pînă îi vei nimici`.

19 W hy then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? You rushed upon what was left after the battle and did what was sinful in the Lord’s eyes.”

Pentruce n'ai ascultat glasul Domnului? Pentruce te-ai aruncat asupra prăzii, şi ai făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului?``

20 S aul said to Samuel, “I did obey the voice of the Lord. I went where the Lord sent me. I have brought Agag the king of Amalek. And I have destroyed the Amalekites.

Saul a răspuns lui Samuel:,, Am ascultat glasul Domnului, şi m'am dus în calea pe care mă trimetea Domnul. Am adus pe Agag, împăratul lui Amalec, şi am nimicit cu desăvîrşire pe Amaleciţi;

21 B ut the people took some of their things that were left. They took sheep and cattle and the best of the things to be destroyed, to give to the Lord your God at Gilgal.”

dar poporul a luat din pradă oi şi boi, ca pîrgă din ceeace trebuia nimicit cu desăvîrşire, ca să le jertfească Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, la Ghilgal``.

22 S amuel said, “Is the Lord pleased as much with burnt gifts as He is when He is obeyed? See, it is better to obey than to give gifts. It is better to listen than to give the fat of rams.

Samuel a zis:,,Îi plac Domnului mai mult arderile de tot şi jertfele decît ascultarea de glasul Domnului? Ascultarea face mai mult decît jertfele, şi păzirea cuvîntului Său face mai mult decît grăsimea berbecilor.

23 T o go against what you are told is like the sin of witchcraft. Not to obey is like the sin of worshiping false gods. You have turned away from the Word of the Lord. So He has turned away from you being king.”

Căci neascultarea este tot atît de vinovată ca ghicirea, şi împotrivirea nu este mai puţin vinovată decît închinarea la idoli şi terafimii. Fiindcă ai lepădat cuvîntul Domnului, te leapădă şi El ca împărat``.

24 T hen Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned. I have sinned against the Word of the Lord and your words, because I was afraid of the people and listened to them.

Atunci Saul a zis lui Samuel:,, Am păcătuit, căci am călcat porunca Domnului, şi n'am ascultat cuvintele tale; mă temeam de popor, şi i-am ascultat glasul.

25 N ow I beg you, forgive my sin and return with me, that I may worship the Lord.”

Acum, te rog, iartă-mi păcatul, întoarce-te cu mine, ca să mă închin pînă la pămînt înaintea Domnului.``

26 B ut Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you. For you have turned away from the Word of the Lord. And the Lord has turned away from you being king over Israel.”

Samuel a zis lui Saul:,, Nu mă voi întoarce cu tine: fiindcă ai lepădat cuvîntul Domnului, şi Domnul te leapădă, ca să nu mai fii împărat peste Israel``.

27 A s Samuel turned to go, Saul took hold of part of his clothing, and it tore.

Şi pe cînd se întorcea Samuel să plece, Saul l -a apucat de pulpana hainei, şi s'a rupt.

28 S o Samuel said to him, “Today the Lord has torn the rule of Israel away from you. He has given it to your neighbor who is better than you.

Samuel i -a zis:,, Domnul rupe astăzi domnia lui Israel deasupra ta, şi o dă altuia mai bun decît tine.

29 A nd the shining greatness of Israel will not lie or change His mind. For He is not a man that He should change His mind.”

Cel ce este tăria lui Israel nu minte şi nu Se căieşte, căci nu este un om ca să -I pară rău.``

30 S aul said, “I have sinned. But I beg you, honor me now in front of the leaders of my people and in front of Israel. Return with me, that I may worship the Lord your God.”

Saul a zis iarăş:,, Am păcătuit! Acum, te rog, cinsteşte-mă în faţa bătrînilor poporului meu, şi în faţa lui Israel; întoarce-te cu mine, ca să mă închin înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău.``

31 S o Samuel returned with Saul, and Saul worshiped the Lord.

Samuel s'a întors şi a mers după Saul, şi Saul s'a închinat înaintea Domnului.

32 T hen Samuel said, “Bring me Agag, the king of the Amalekites.” Agag was happy when he came to him. Agag said, “For sure the bad feelings of death are past.”

Apoi Samuel a zis:,, Adu-mi pe Agag, împăratul lui Amalec.`` Şi Agag a înaintat vesel spre el, căci zicea:,, Negreşit, a trecut amărăciunea morţii!``

33 B ut Samuel said, “As your sword has killed the children of women, so will your mother have no children.” And Samuel cut Agag to pieces before the Lord at Gilgal.

Samuel a zis:,, După cum sabia ta a lăsat femei fără copii, tot aşa şi mama ta va fi lăsată fără copii între femei.`` Şi Samuel a tăiat pe Agag în bucăţi înaintea Domnului, la Ghilgal.

34 T hen Samuel went to Ramah, and Saul went up to his house at Gibeah of Saul.

Samuel a plecat la Rama, şi Saul s'a suit acasă la Ghibea lui Saul.

35 S amuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death. But Samuel was filled with sorrow because of Saul. And the Lord was sorry that He had made Saul king over Israel.

Samuel nu s'a mai dus să vadă pe Saul pînă în ziua morţii sale. Dar Samuel plîngea pe Saul, pentrucă Domnul... Se căise că pusese pe Saul împărat peste Israel.
