1 J ehoshaphat died, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. His son Jehoram became king in his place.

Iosafat a adormit cu părinţii săi, şi a fost îngropat cu părinţii săi în cetatea lui David. Şi, în locul lui, a domnit fiul său Ioram.

2 J ehoram’s brothers were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of King Jehoshaphat of Israel.

Ioram avea ca fraţi, fii ai lui Iosafat, pe: Azaria, Iehiel, Zaharia, Azaria, Micael şi Şefatia, toţi fii ai lui Iosafat, împăratul lui Israel.

3 T heir father gave them many gifts of silver, gold, and things of much worth. He gave them strong cities in Judah. But he made Jehoram king, because he was the first-born.

Tatăl lor le dăduse daruri însemnate în argint, în aur şi în lucruri scumpe, împreună cu cetăţi întărite în Iuda; dar împărăţia a lăsat -o lui Ioram, pentrucă el era întîiul născut.

4 N ow when Jehoram had become king in the place of his father, and had made himself strong, he killed all his brothers with the sword. He killed some of the leaders of Israel also.

Cînd a luat Ioram în stăpînire împărăţia tatălui său, şi cînd s'a întărit, a omorît cu sabia pe toţi fraţii săi şi pe vreo cîţiva din capii lui Israel.

5 J ehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king. And he ruled for eight years in Jerusalem.

Ioram avea treizeci şi doi de ani cînd a ajuns împărat, şi a domnit opt ani la Ierusalim.

6 H e walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as those of Ahab’s house did. (For Ahab’s daughter was his wife.) He did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord.

El a umblat în calea împăraţilor lui Israel, cum făcuse casa lui Ahab, căci avea de nevastă pe o fată a lui Ahab, şi a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului.

7 Y et the Lord would not destroy the family of David, because of the agreement He had made with David. He had promised to give a light to him and his sons forever.

Dar Domnul n'a voit să peardă casa lui David, din pricina legămîntului pe care -l făcuse cu David, şi din pricina făgăduinţei pe care o făcuse că îi va da totdeauna o lumină, lui şi fiilor lui.

8 I n the days of Jehoram, Edom turned against the rule of Judah, and set up a king of their own.

Pe vremea sa, Edom s'a răsculat împotriva stăpînirii lui Iuda, şi şi -a pus un împărat.

9 T hen Jehoram crossed over with his captains and all his war-wagons. He went during the night and destroyed the Edomites who had gathered around him and the captains of the war-wagons.

Ioram a pornit cu căpeteniile şi cu toate carăle sale. Sculîndu-se noaptea, a bătut pe Edomiţi, cari -l înconjurau şi pe căpeteniile carălor lor.

10 S o Edom has been against the rule of Judah to this day. Libnah turned against Jehoram’s rule at the same time, because he had left the Lord God of his fathers.

Răscoala lui Edom împotriva stăpînirii lui Iuda a ţinut pînă în ziua de azi. În acelaş timp s'a răsculat şi Libna împotriva stăpînirii lui, pentrucă părăsise pe Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor săi.

11 A nd Jehoram made high places in the mountains of Judah. He caused the people of Jerusalem to give themselves over to sin. And he made Judah sin.

Ioram a făcut chiar înălţimi în munţii lui Iuda. A tîrît pe locuitorii Ierusalimului la curvie, şi a amăgit pe Iuda.

12 T hen a letter came to him from Elijah the man of God, saying, “The Lord God of your father David says, ‘You have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat, and the ways of King Asa of Judah.

I -a venit o scrisoare dela proorocul Ilie, care zicea:,, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul tatălui tău David:,, Pentrucă n'ai umblat în căile tatălui tău Iosafat, şi în căile lui Asa, împăratul lui Iuda,

13 B ut you have walked in the way of the kings of Israel. You have caused Judah and the people of Israel to give themselves over to sin, as those of Ahab’s house did. And you have killed your brothers, your own family, who were better than you.

ci ai umblat în calea împăraţilor lui Israel; pentrucă ai tîrît la curvie pe Iuda şi locuitorii Ierusalimului, cum a făcut casa lui Ahab faţă de Israel: şi pentrucă ai omorît pe fraţii tăi, cari erau mai buni decît tine, şi cari făceau parte din însăş casa tatălui tău; -

14 S o see, the Lord is going to send a bad disease upon your people, your sons, your wives, and all you have.

iată, Domnul va lovi cu o mare urgie pe poporul tău, pe fiii tăi, pe nevestele tale, şi tot ce este al tău.

15 Y ou yourself will suffer a bad sickness, a disease of your stomach. Your insides will come out because of the sickness, day by day.’”

Iar pe tine, te va lovi cu o boală grea, cu o boală de măruntaie, care se va îngreuia din zi în zi pînă cînd îţi vor ieşi măruntaiele din pricina tăriei bolii.``

16 T hen the Lord made the Philistines and the Arabs who were near the Ethiopians angry against Jehoram.

Şi Domnul a aţîţat împotriva lui Ioram duhul Filistenilor şi al Arabilor, cari sînt în vecinătatea Etiopienilor.

17 T hey came and fought against Judah, and carried away all the things they found in the king’s house, together with his sons and his wives. No son was left to him except Jehoahaz, his youngest.

S'au suit împotriva lui Iuda, au năvălit în el, au jăfuit toate bogăţiile cari se aflau în casa împăratului, şi i-au luat fiii şi nevestele, aşa încît nu i -a mai rămas alt fiu decît Ioahaz1, cel mai tînăr dintre fiii săi.

18 A fter all this the Lord caused a sickness in Jehoram’s stomach, which could not be cured.

După toate acestea, Domnul l -a lovit cu o boală de măruntaie, care era fără leac.

19 A fter that time, at the end of two years, his insides came out because of his sickness. And he died in much pain. His people made no fire for him like the fires made for his fathers.

Ea s'a îngreuiat din zi în zi, şi pela sfîrşitul anului al doilea i-au ieşit lui Ioram măruntaiele din pricina tăriei bolii. A murit în dureri grele. Şi poporul lui n'a ars tămîie în cinstea lui, cum făcuse pentru părinţii lui.

20 J ehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for eight years. And no one felt bad when he died. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the graves of the kings.

Avea treizeci şi doi de ani cînd a ajuns împărat, şi a domnit opt ani la Ierusalim. A murit fără să lase părere de rău în urmă, şi l-au îngropat în cetatea lui David, dar nu în mormintele împăraţilor.
