1 N ow Hiram the king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, when he heard that they had set him apart to be king in place of his father. Hiram had always loved David.

Hiram, împăratul Tirului, a trimes pe slujitorii săi la Solomon; căci auzise că fusese uns împărat în locul tatălui său, şi el iubise totdeauna pe David.

2 T hen Solomon sent word to Hiram, saying,

Solomon a trimes vorbă lui Hiram:

3 “ You know that my father David was not able to build a house for the name of the Lord his God because of the wars all around him. The Lord had not yet put those who hated him under his feet.

că tatăl meu David n'a putut să zidească o casă Domnului, Dumnezeului lui, din pricina războaielor cu cari l-au înconjurat vrăjmaşii lui, pînă ce Domnul i -a pus subt talpa picioarelor lui.

4 B ut now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side. There is no trouble or anything bad happening.

Acum Domnul, Dumnezeul meu, mi -a dat odihnă din toate părţile; nu mai am nici protivnic, nici nenorociri!

5 S o I plan to build a house for the name of the Lord my God. Because the Lord said to my father David, ‘I will set your son on your throne in your place. He will build the house for My name.’

Iată că am de gînd să zidesc o casă Numelui Domnului, Dumnezeului meu, cum a spus Domnul tatălui meu David, zicînd:, Fiul tău, pe care -l voi pune în locul tău, pe scaunul tău de domnie, el va zidi o casă Numelui Meu.`

6 S o tell them to cut cedar trees of Lebanon for me. My servants will join yours. And I will give you whatever you say to pay your servants. For you know that there is no one among us who knows how to cut trees like the Sidonians.”

Porunceşte acum să se taie pentru mine cedri din Liban. Slujitorii mei vor fi cu ai tăi, şi-ţi voi plăti simbria slujitorilor tăi aşa cum o vei hotărî tu; căci ştii că dintre noi nimeni nu se pricepe să taie lemne ca Sidonienii.``

7 W hen Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he was filled with joy and said, “Thanks be to the Lord today. He has given to David a wise son to rule this great people.”

Cînd a auzit Hiram cuvintele lui Solomon, a avut o mare bucurie, şi a zis:,, Binecuvîntat să fie astăzi Domnul, care a dat lui David un fiu înţelept, drept căpetenie a acestui mare popor!``

8 H iram sent word to Solomon, saying, “I have heard the news you have sent me. I will do what you want with the cedar and cypress trees.

Şi Hiram a trimes răspuns lui Solomon:,, Am auzit ce ai trimes să mi se spună. Voi face tot ce vei vrea în ce priveşte lemnele de cedru şi lemnele de chiparos.

9 M y servants will bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them ready to go on the sea to the place you choose. I will have them broken up there, and you can carry them away. Then you will do what I wish by giving food to those of my house.”

Slujitorii mei le vor pogorî din Liban la mare, şi le voi trimete pe mare în plute pînă la locul pe care mi -l vei arăta: acolo, voi pune să le deslege, şi le vei lua. Ceea ce cer în schimb, este să trimeţi merinde casei mele.``

10 S o Hiram gave Solomon as much as he wanted of the cedar and cypress trees.

Hiram a dat lui Solomon lemne de cedru şi lemne de chiparos cît a voit.

11 T hen Solomon gave Hiram 200, 000 baskets of grain as food for those of his house, and 200 jars of beaten oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram each year.

Şi Solomon a dat lui Hiram douăzeci de mii de cori de grîu pentru hrana casei lui şi douăzeci de cori de untdelemn curat; iată ce a dat Solomon în fiecare an lui Hiram.

12 A nd the Lord gave wisdom to Solomon, just as He promised him. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they made an agreement.

Domnul a dat înţelepciune lui Solomon, cum îi făgăduise. Între Hiram şi Solomon a fost pace, şi au făcut legămînt împreună.

13 N ow King Solomon made men work for him from all Israel. There were 30, 000 men made to work for him.

Împăratul Solomon a luat din tot Israelul oameni de corvoadă, în număr de treizeci de mii.

14 H e sent them to Lebanon, 10, 000 men each month. They were in Lebanon one month and at home two months. Adoniram ruled those who were made to work.

I -a trimes în Liban, cîte zece mii pe lună, cu schimbul; o lună erau în Liban, şi două luni erau acasă. Adoniram era mai mare peste oamenii de corvoadă.

15 N ow Solomon had 70, 000 men to carry loads, and 80, 000 stone cutters in the mountains.

Solomon mai avea şaptezeci de mii de oameni cari purtau poverile şi optzeci de mii cari tăiau pietrele în munţi,

16 A nd he had 3, 300 men who were leaders of the work, and who ruled over the people doing the work.

afară de căpeteniile, în număr de trei mii trei sute, puse de Solomon peste lucrări şi însărcinate cu privegherea lucrătorilor.

17 T hen as the king told them, they cut out large stones of much worth for the house of God to be built on.

Împăratul a poruncit să se scoată pietre mari şi măreţe, cioplite pentru temeliile casei.

18 S olomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders and the Gebalites cut them. They made the wood and the stones ready to build the house.

Lucrătorii lui Solomon, ai lui Hiram, şi Ghibliţii, le-au cioplit, şi au pregătit lemnele şi pietrele pentru zidirea casei.
