5 i n view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now.

6 F or I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Estoy convencido precisamente de esto: que el que comenzó en ustedes la buena obra, la perfeccionará hasta el día de Cristo Jesús.

7 F or it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me.

Es justo que yo sienta esto acerca de todos ustedes, porque los llevo en el corazón, pues tanto en mis prisiones (mis cadenas) como en la defensa y confirmación del evangelio, todos ustedes son participantes conmigo de la gracia.

8 F or God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.

Porque Dios me es testigo de cuánto los añoro a todos con el entrañable amor de Cristo Jesús.

9 A nd this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,

Y esto pido en oración: que el amor de ustedes abunde aún más y más en conocimiento verdadero y en todo discernimiento,

10 s o that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;

a fin de que escojan (aprueben) lo mejor, para que sean puros e irreprensibles para el día de Cristo;

11 h aving been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. The Gospel Is Preached

llenos del fruto de justicia que es por medio de Jesucristo, para la gloria y alabanza de Dios. La Vida es Cristo

12 N ow I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel,

Quiero que sepan, hermanos, que las circunstancias en que me he visto, han redundado en un mayor progreso del evangelio,

13 s o that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else,

de tal manera que mis prisiones por la causa de Cristo se han hecho notorias en toda la guardia pretoriana (en todo el palacio del gobernador) y a todos los demás.

14 a nd that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear.

La mayoría de los hermanos, confiando en el Señor por causa de mis prisiones, tienen mucho más valor para hablar la palabra de Dios sin temor.

15 S ome, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will;

Algunos, a la verdad, predican a Cristo (el Mesías) aun por envidia y rivalidad, pero también otros lo hacen de buena voluntad.

16 t he latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;

17 t he former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment.

Aquéllos proclaman a Cristo por ambición personal, no con sinceridad, pensando causarme angustia en mis prisiones.

18 W hat then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,

¿Entonces qué? Que de todas maneras, ya sea fingidamente o en verdad, Cristo es proclamado; y en esto me regocijo, sí, y me regocijaré.

19 f or I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

20 a ccording to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. To Live Is Christ

21 F or to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

22 B ut if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.

Pero si el vivir en la carne, esto significa para mí una labor fructífera, entonces, no sé cuál escoger.

23 B ut I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;

Porque de ambos lados me siento apremiado, teniendo el deseo de partir y estar con Cristo, pues eso es mucho mejor.

24 y et to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.

Sin embargo, continuar en la carne es más necesario por causa de ustedes.

25 C onvinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,

26 s o that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.

27 O nly conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

Solamente compórtense de una manera digna del evangelio de Cristo, de modo que ya sea que vaya a verlos, o que permanezca ausente, pueda oír que ustedes están firmes en un mismo espíritu, luchando unánimes por la fe del evangelio.

28 i n no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.

De ninguna manera estén atemorizados por sus adversarios, lo cual es señal de perdición para ellos, pero de salvación para ustedes, y esto, de Dios.

29 F or to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,

Porque a ustedes se les ha concedido por amor de Cristo, no sólo creer en El, sino también sufrir por El,

30 e xperiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

teniendo el mismo conflicto que vieron en mí, y que ahora oyen que está en mí.
