1 F or you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain,

Porque ustedes mismos saben, hermanos, que nuestra visita a ustedes no fue en vano,

2 b ut after we had already suffered and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition.

sino que después de haber sufrido y sido maltratados en Filipos, como saben, tuvimos el valor, confiados en nuestro Dios, de hablarles el evangelio (las buenas nuevas) de Dios en medio de mucha oposición (de mucho conflicto).

3 F or our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit;

Pues nuestra exhortación no procede de error ni de impureza ni es con engaño,

4 b ut just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.

sino que así como hemos sido aprobados por Dios para que se nos confiara el evangelio, así hablamos, no como agradando a los hombres, sino a Dios que examina nuestros corazones.

5 F or we never came with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed— God is witness—

Porque como saben, nunca fuimos a ustedes con palabras lisonjeras, ni con pretexto para sacar provecho. Dios es testigo.

6 n or did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as apostles of Christ we might have asserted our authority.

Tampoco buscamos gloria de los hombres, ni de ustedes ni de otros, aunque como apóstoles de Cristo hubiéramos podido imponer nuestra autoridad.

7 B ut we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children.

Más bien demostramos ser benignos entre ustedes, como una madre que cría con ternura a sus propios hijos.

8 H aving so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.

Teniendo así un gran afecto por ustedes, nos hemos complacido en impartirles no sólo el evangelio de Dios, sino también nuestras propias vidas, pues llegaron a ser muy amados para nosotros.

9 F or you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

Porque recuerdan, hermanos, nuestros trabajos y fatigas, cómo, trabajando de día y de noche para no ser carga a ninguno de ustedes, les proclamamos el evangelio de Dios.

10 Y ou are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers;

Ustedes son testigos, y también Dios, de cuán santa, justa e irreprensiblemente nos comportamos (nos hicimos) con ustedes los creyentes.

11 j ust as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children,

Saben además de qué manera los exhortábamos, alentábamos e implorábamos (testificábamos) a cada uno de ustedes, como un padre lo haría con sus propios hijos,

12 s o that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

para que anduvieran como es digno del Dios que los ha llamado a Su reino y a Su gloria. Pablo Da Gracias por los Tesalonicenses

13 F or this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.

Por esto también nosotros sin cesar damos gracias a Dios de que cuando recibieron la palabra de Dios que oyeron de nosotros, la aceptaron no como la palabra de hombres, sino como lo que realmente es, la palabra de Dios, la cual también hace su obra en ustedes los que creen.

14 F or you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, for you also endured the same sufferings at the hands of your own countrymen, even as they did from the Jews,

Pues ustedes, hermanos, llegaron a ser imitadores de las iglesias de Dios en Cristo Jesús que están en Judea, porque también ustedes padecieron los mismos sufrimientos a manos de sus propios compatriotas, tal como ellos padecieron a manos de los Judíos.

15 w ho both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out. They are not pleasing to God, but hostile to all men,

Estos mataron tanto al Señor Jesús como a los profetas, y a nosotros nos expulsaron, y no agradan a Dios sino que son contrarios a todos los hombres,

16 h indering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost.

impidiéndonos (prohibiéndonos) hablar a los Gentiles para que se salven, con el resultado de que siempre llenan la medida de sus pecados. Pero la ira de Dios ha venido sobre ellos hasta el extremo (totalmente).

17 B ut we, brethren, having been taken away from you for a short while— in person, not in spirit—were all the more eager with great desire to see your face.

Pero nosotros, hermanos, separados de ustedes por breve tiempo, en persona pero no en espíritu, estábamos muy ansiosos, con profundo deseo de ir a verlos.

18 F or we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, more than once—and yet Satan hindered us.

Ya que queríamos ir a ustedes, al menos yo, Pablo, más de una vez; pero Satanás nos lo ha impedido.

19 F or who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?

Porque ¿quién es nuestra esperanza o gozo o corona de gloria ? ¿No lo son ustedes en la presencia de nuestro Señor Jesús en Su venida ?

20 F or you are our glory and joy.

Pues ustedes son nuestra gloria y nuestro gozo.
