1 T he elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth,

El anciano a la señora escogida (elegida) y a sus hijos, a quienes amo en verdad, y no sólo yo, sino también todos los que conocen la verdad,

2 f or the sake of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever:

a causa de la verdad que permanece en nosotros y que estará con nosotros para siempre:

3 G race, mercy and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

La gracia, la misericordia, y la paz estarán con nosotros, de Dios el Padre y de Jesucristo, Hijo del Padre, en verdad y amor. Exhortaciones

4 I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we have received commandment to do from the Father.

Mucho me alegré al encontrar algunos de tus hijos andando en la verdad, tal como hemos recibido mandamiento del Padre.

5 N ow I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.

Ahora te ruego, señora, no como escribiéndote un nuevo mandamiento, sino el que hemos tenido desde el principio, que nos amemos unos a otros.

6 A nd this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

Y éste es el amor: que andemos conforme a Sus mandamientos. Este es el mandamiento tal como lo han oído desde el principio, para que ustedes anden en él.

7 F or many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Pues muchos engañadores han salido al mundo que no confiesan que Jesucristo ha venido en carne. Ese es el engañador y el anticristo.

8 W atch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.

Tengan ustedes cuidado para que no pierdan lo que hemos logrado, sino que reciban abundante recompensa.

9 A nyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.

Todo el que se desvía y no permanece en la enseñanza (doctrina) de Cristo, no tiene a Dios. El que permanece en la enseñanza tiene tanto al Padre como al Hijo.

10 I f anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting;

Si alguien viene a ustedes y no trae esta enseñanza (doctrina), no lo reciban en casa, ni lo saluden,

11 f or the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.

pues el que lo saluda participa en sus malas obras. Despedida

12 T hough I have many things to write to you, I do not want to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, so that your joy may be made full.

Aunque tengo muchas cosas que escribirles, no quiero hacerlo con papel y tinta, sino que espero ir a verlos y hablar con ustedes cara a cara, para que su gozo sea completo.
