1 T hen Samuel said to all Israel, “Behold, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me and I have appointed a king over you.

Entonces Samuel dijo a todo Israel: “Yo he escuchado su voz en todo lo que me dijeron, y he puesto un rey sobre ustedes.

2 N ow, here is the king walking before you, but I am old and gray, and behold my sons are with you. And I have walked before you from my youth even to this day.

Ahora, aquí está el rey que va delante de ustedes. Yo ya soy viejo y lleno de canas, y mis hijos son parte suya. Yo he andado delante de ustedes desde mi juventud hasta hoy.

3 H ere I am; bear witness against me before the Lord and His anointed. Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? I will restore it to you.”

Aquí estoy; testifiquen contra mí delante del Señor y delante de Su ungido. ¿A quién he quitado un buey, o a quién he quitado un asno, o a quién he defraudado ? ¿A quién he oprimido, o de mano de quién he tomado soborno para cegar mis ojos con él ? Testifiquen, y se lo restituiré.”

4 T hey said, “You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man’s hand.”

Ellos respondieron: “Tú no nos has defraudado, tampoco nos has oprimido, ni has tomado nada de mano de ningún hombre.”

5 H e said to them, “The Lord is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day that you have found nothing in my hand.” And they said, “ He is witness.”

Y Samuel les dijo: “El Señor es testigo contra ustedes, y Su ungido es testigo en este día que nada han hallado en mi mano.” “ El es testigo,” contestaron ellos.

6 T hen Samuel said to the people, “It is the Lord who appointed Moses and Aaron and who brought your fathers up from the land of Egypt.

Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: “El Señor es el que designó a Moisés y a Aarón, y el que sacó a sus padres de la tierra de Egipto.

7 S o now, take your stand, that I may plead with you before the Lord concerning all the righteous acts of the Lord which He did for you and your fathers.

Ahora pues, preséntense para que yo discuta con ustedes delante del Señor acerca de todos los hechos de justicia del Señor que El hizo por ustedes y por sus padres.

8 W hen Jacob went into Egypt and your fathers cried out to the Lord, then the Lord sent Moses and Aaron who brought your fathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.

Cuando Jacob fue a Egipto y sus padres clamaron al Señor, el Señor envió a Moisés y a Aarón, quienes sacaron a sus padres de Egipto y los establecieron en este lugar.

9 B ut they forgot the Lord their God, so He sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

Pero ellos olvidaron al Señor su Dios, y El los vendió en manos de Sísara, jefe del ejército de Hazor, en manos de los Filisteos y en manos del rey de Moab, los cuales pelearon contra ellos.

10 T hey cried out to the Lord and said, ‘We have sinned because we have forsaken the Lord and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth; but now deliver us from the hands of our enemies, and we will serve You.’

Entonces clamaron al Señor, y dijeron: ‘Hemos pecado porque hemos dejado al Señor y hemos servido a los Baales y a Astarot; pero ahora, líbranos de la mano de nuestros enemigos, y te serviremos.’

11 T hen the Lord sent Jerubbaal and Bedan and Jephthah and Samuel, and delivered you from the hands of your enemies all around, so that you lived in security. The King Confirmed

Entonces el Señor envió a Jerobaal, a Bedán, a Jefté y a Samuel, y los libró a ustedes de mano de sus enemigos en derredor, de manera que habitaron con seguridad.

12 W hen you saw that Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon came against you, you said to me, ‘ No, but a king shall reign over us,’ although the Lord your God was your king.

Cuando vieron que Nahas, rey de los Amonitas, venía contra ustedes, me dijeron: ‘No, sino que un rey ha de reinar sobre nosotros,’ aunque el Señor su Dios era su rey.

13 N ow therefore, here is the king whom you have chosen, whom you have asked for, and behold, the Lord has set a king over you.

Ahora pues, aquí está el rey que han escogido, a quien han pedido; éste es a quien el Señor ha puesto rey sobre ustedes.

14 I f you will fear the Lord and serve Him, and listen to His voice and not rebel against the command of the Lord, then both you and also the king who reigns over you will follow the Lord your God.

Si temen al Señor y Le sirven, escuchan Su voz y no se rebelan contra el mandamiento del Señor, entonces ustedes, como el rey que reine sobre ustedes, estarán siguiendo al Señor su Dios.

15 I f you will not listen to the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the command of the Lord, then the hand of the Lord will be against you, as it was against your fathers.

Pero si no escuchan la voz del Señor, sino que se rebelan contra el mandamiento del Señor, entonces la mano del Señor estará contra ustedes, como estuvo contra sus padres.

16 E ven now, take your stand and see this great thing which the Lord will do before your eyes.

Preséntense ahora, y vean esta gran cosa que el Señor hará delante de sus ojos.

17 I s it not the wheat harvest today? I will call to the Lord, that He may send thunder and rain. Then you will know and see that your wickedness is great which you have done in the sight of the Lord by asking for yourselves a king.”

¿No es ahora la siega del trigo ? Yo clamaré al Señor, para que mande truenos y lluvia. Entonces conocerán y verán que es grande la maldad que han hecho ante los ojos del Señor, al pedir para ustedes un rey.”

18 S o Samuel called to the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel.

Clamó Samuel al Señor, y el Señor envió aquel día truenos y lluvia; y todo el pueblo temió grandemente al Señor y a Samuel.

19 T hen all the people said to Samuel, “ Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, so that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil by asking for ourselves a king.”

Entonces todo el pueblo dijo a Samuel: “Ruega por tus siervos al Señor tu Dios para que no muramos, porque hemos añadido este mal a todos nuestros pecados al pedir para nosotros un rey.”

20 S amuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have committed all this evil, yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.

Y Samuel dijo al pueblo: “No teman; aunque ustedes han hecho todo este mal, no se aparten de seguir al Señor, sino sirvan al Señor con todo su corazón.

21 Y ou must not turn aside, for then you would go after futile things which can not profit or deliver, because they are futile.

No se deben apartar, porque entonces irían tras vanidades que ni ayudan ni libran, pues son vanidades.

22 F or the Lord will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the Lord has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.

Porque el Señor, a causa de Su gran nombre, no desamparará a Su pueblo, pues el Señor se ha complacido en hacerlos pueblo Suyo.

23 M oreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and right way.

Y en cuanto a mí, lejos esté de mí que peque contra el Señor cesando de orar por ustedes, antes bien, les instruiré en el camino bueno y recto.

24 O nly fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.

Solamente teman al Señor y sírvanle en verdad con todo su corazón; pues han visto cuán grandes cosas ha hecho por ustedes.

25 B ut if you still do wickedly, both you and your king will be swept away.”

Pero si perseveran en hacer mal, ustedes y su rey perecerán.”
