1 N ow the Lord said to Abram, “ Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you;

Y el Señor dijo a Abram: “Vete de tu tierra, De entre tus parientes Y de la casa de tu padre, A la tierra que Yo te mostraré.

2 A nd I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing;

Haré de ti una nación grande, Y te bendeciré, Engrandeceré tu nombre, Y serás bendición.

3 A nd I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Bendeciré a los que te bendigan, Y al que te maldiga, maldeciré. En ti serán benditas todas las familias de la tierra.”

4 S o Abram went forth as the Lord had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Entonces Abram se fue tal como el Señor le había dicho, y Lot se fue con él. Abram tenía setenta y cinco años cuando salió de Harán.

5 A bram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions which they had accumulated, and the persons which they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan; thus they came to the land of Canaan.

Abram tomó a Sarai su mujer y a Lot su sobrino, y todas las posesiones que ellos habían acumulado y las personas que habían adquirido en Harán, y salieron para ir a la tierra de Canaán; y a la tierra de Canaán llegaron.

6 A bram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land.

Abram atravesó el país hasta el lugar de Siquem, hasta la encina de More. Los Cananeos habitaban entonces en esa tierra.

7 T he Lord appeared to Abram and said, “ To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

El Señor se apareció a Abram y le dijo: “A tu descendencia daré esta tierra.” Entonces Abram edificó allí un altar al Señor que se le había aparecido.

8 T hen he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord.

De allí se trasladó hacia el monte al oriente de Betel (Casa de Dios), y plantó su tienda, teniendo a Betel al occidente y Hai al oriente. Edificó allí un altar al Señor, e invocó el nombre del Señor.

9 A bram journeyed on, continuing toward the Negev.

Y Abram siguió su camino, continuando hacia el Neguev (región del sur). Abram en Egipto

10 N ow there was a famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land.

Pero hubo hambre en el país, y Abram descendió a Egipto para pasar allí un tiempo, porque el hambre era severa en aquella tierra.

11 I t came about when he came near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman;

Cuando se estaba acercando a Egipto, Abram dijo a Sarai su mujer: “Mira, sé que eres una mujer de hermoso parecer;

12 a nd when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.

y sucederá que cuando te vean los Egipcios, dirán: ‘Esta es su mujer’; y me matarán, pero a ti te dejarán vivir.

13 P lease say that you are my sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that I may live on account of you.”

Di, por favor, que eres mi hermana, para que me vaya bien por causa tuya, y para que yo viva gracias a ti.”

14 I t came about when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.

Cuando Abram entró en Egipto, los Egipcios vieron que la mujer era muy hermosa.

15 P haraoh’s officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.

La vieron los oficiales de Faraón y la alabaron delante de él. Entonces la mujer fue llevada a la casa de Faraón.

16 T herefore he treated Abram well for her sake; and gave him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels.

Y éste trató bien a Abram por causa de ella. Le dio ovejas, vacas, asnos, siervos, siervas, asnas y camellos.

17 B ut the Lord struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.

Pero el Señor hirió a Faraón y a su casa con grandes plagas por causa de Sarai, mujer de Abram.

18 T hen Pharaoh called Abram and said, “ What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?

Entonces Faraón llamó a Abram, y le dijo: “¿Qué es esto que me has hecho ? ¿Por qué no me avisaste que era tu mujer?

19 W hy did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her and go.”

¿Por qué dijiste: ‘Es mi hermana,’ de manera que la tomé por mujer? Ahora pues, aquí está tu mujer, tóma la y vete.”

20 P haraoh commanded his men concerning him; and they escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him.

Faraón dio órdenes a sus hombres acerca de Abram; y ellos lo despidieron con su mujer y con todo lo que le pertenecía.
