1 T his is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder,

Amados, ésta es ya la segunda carta que les escribo, en las cuales, como recordatorio, despierto en ustedes su sincero entendimiento,

2 t hat you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles. The Coming Day of the Lord

para que recuerden las palabras dichas de antemano por los santos profetas, y el mandamiento del Señor y Salvador declarado por los apóstoles de ustedes.

3 K now this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,

Ante todo, sepan esto: que en los últimos días vendrán burladores con su sarcasmo, siguiendo sus propias pasiones,

4 a nd saying, “ Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.”

y diciendo: “¿Dónde está la promesa de Su venida ? Porque desde que los padres durmieron (murieron), todo continúa tal como estaba desde el principio de la creación.”

5 F or when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,

Pues cuando dicen esto, no se dan cuenta de que los cielos existían desde hace mucho tiempo, y también la tierra, surgida del agua y establecida entre las aguas por la palabra de Dios,

6 t hrough which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.

por lo cual el mundo de entonces fue destruido, siendo inundado por el agua.

7 B ut by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

Pero los cielos y la tierra actuales están reservados por Su palabra para el fuego, guardados para el día del juicio y de la destrucción de los impíos. El Día del Señor

8 B ut do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.

Pero, amados, no ignoren esto: que para el Señor un día es como mil años, y mil años como un día.

9 T he Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. A New Heaven and Earth

El Señor no se tarda en cumplir Su promesa, según algunos entienden la tardanza, sino que es paciente para con ustedes, no queriendo que nadie perezca, sino que todos vengan al arrepentimiento.

10 B ut the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

Pero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón, en el cual los cielos pasarán con gran estruendo, y los elementos serán destruidos con fuego intenso, y la tierra y las obras que hay en ella serán quemadas.

11 S ince all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,

Puesto que todas estas cosas han de ser destruidas de esta manera, ¡qué clase de personas no deben ser ustedes en santa conducta y en piedad,

12 l ooking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!

esperando y apresurando la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos serán destruidos por fuego y los elementos se fundirán con intenso calor!

13 B ut according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

Pero, según Su promesa, nosotros esperamos nuevos cielos y nueva tierra, en los cuales mora la justicia. Exhortación Final

14 T herefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless,

Por tanto, amados, puesto que ustedes aguardan estas cosas, procuren con diligencia ser hallados por El en paz, sin mancha e irreprensibles.

15 a nd regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you,

Consideren la paciencia de nuestro Señor como salvación, tal como les escribió también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le fue dada.

16 a s also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

Asimismo en todas sus cartas habla en ellas de esto; en las cuales hay algunas cosas difíciles de entender, que los ignorantes e inestables tuercen, como también tuercen el resto de las Escrituras, para su propia perdición (destrucción).

17 Y ou therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness,

Por tanto, amados, sabiendo esto de antemano, estén en guardia, no sea que arrastrados por el error de hombres libertinos (sin principios morales), caigan de su firmeza.

18 b ut grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Antes bien, crezcan en la gracia y el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A El sea la gloria ahora y hasta el día de la eternidad. Amén.
