1 T he plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.

2 A ll the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, But the Lord weighs the motives.

Todos os caminhos do homem são limpos aos seus olhos; mas o Senhor pesa os espíritos.

3 C ommit your works to the Lord And your plans will be established.

Entrega ao Senhor as tuas obras, e teus desígnios serão estabelecidos.

4 T he Lord has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil.

O Senhor fez tudo para um fim; sim, até o ímpio para o dia do mal.

5 E veryone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished.

Todo homem arrogante é abominação ao Senhor; certamente não ficará impune.

6 B y lovingkindness and truth iniquity is atoned for, And by the fear of the Lord one keeps away from evil.

Pela misericórdia e pela verdade expia-se a iniqüidade; e pelo temor do Senhor os homens se desviam do mal.

7 W hen a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Quando os caminhos do homem agradam ao Senhor, faz que até os seus inimigos tenham paz com ele.

8 B etter is a little with righteousness Than great income with injustice.

Melhor é o pouco com justiça, do que grandes rendas com injustiça.

9 T he mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

O coração do homem propõe o seu caminho; mas o Senhor lhe dirige os passos.

10 A divine decision is in the lips of the king; His mouth should not err in judgment.

Nos lábios do rei acham-se oráculos; em juízo a sua boca não prevarica.

11 A just balance and scales belong to the Lord; All the weights of the bag are His concern.

O peso e a balança justos são do Senhor; obra sua são todos os pesos da bolsa.

12 I t is an abomination for kings to commit wicked acts, For a throne is established on righteousness.

Abominação é para os reis o praticarem a impiedade; porque com justiça se estabelece o trono.

13 R ighteous lips are the delight of kings, And he who speaks right is loved.

Lábios justos são o prazer dos reis; e eles amam aquele que fala coisas retas.

14 T he fury of a king is like messengers of death, But a wise man will appease it.

O furor do rei é mensageiro da morte; mas o homem sábio o aplacará.

15 I n the light of a king’s face is life, And his favor is like a cloud with the spring rain.

Na luz do semblante do rei está a vida; e o seu favor é como a nuvem de chuva serôdia.

16 H ow much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver.

Quanto melhor é adquirir a sabedoria do que o ouro! e quanto mais excelente é escolher o entendimento do que a prata!

17 T he highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who watches his way preserves his life.

A estrada dos retos desvia-se do mal; o que guarda o seu caminho preserva a sua vida.

18 P ride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.

A soberba precede a destruição, e a altivez do espírito precede a queda.

19 I t is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Melhor é ser humilde de espírito com os mansos, do que repartir o despojo com os soberbos.

20 H e who gives attention to the word will find good, And blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.

O que atenta prudentemente para a palavra prosperará; e feliz é aquele que confia no Senhor.

21 T he wise in heart will be called understanding, And sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.

O sábio de coração será chamado prudente; e a doçura dos lábios aumenta o saber.

22 U nderstanding is a fountain of life to one who has it, But the discipline of fools is folly.

O entendimento, para aquele que o possui, é uma fonte de vida, porém a estultícia é o castigo dos insensatos.

23 T he heart of the wise instructs his mouth And adds persuasiveness to his lips.

O coração do sábio instrui a sua boca, e aumenta o saber nos seus lábios.

24 P leasant words are a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Palavras suaves são como favos de mel, doçura para a alma e saúde para o corpo.

25 T here is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Há um caminho que ao homem parece direito, mas o fim dele conduz ã morte.

26 A worker’s appetite works for him, For his hunger urges him on.

O apetite do trabalhador trabalha por ele, porque a sua fome o incita a isso.

27 A worthless man digs up evil, While his words are like scorching fire.

O homem vil suscita o mal; e nos seus lábios há como que um fogo ardente.

28 A perverse man spreads strife, And a slanderer separates intimate friends.

O homem perverso espalha contendas; e o difamador separa amigos íntimos.

29 A man of violence entices his neighbor And leads him in a way that is not good.

O homem violento alicia o seu vizinho, e guia-o por um caminho que não é bom.

30 H e who winks his eyes does so to devise perverse things; He who compresses his lips brings evil to pass.

Quando fecha os olhos fá-lo para maquinar perversidades; quando morde os lábios, efetua o mal.

31 A gray head is a crown of glory; It is found in the way of righteousness.

Coroa de honra são as cãs, a qual se obtém no caminho da justiça.

32 H e who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.

Melhor é o longânimo do que o valente; e o que domina o seu espírito do que o que toma uma cidade.

33 T he lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the Lord.

A sorte se lança no regaço; mas do Senhor procede toda a disposição dela.
