1 ( Către mai marele cîntăreţilor. Un psalm al lui David.) Dumnezeul laudei mele, nu tăcea!

I give praise to You, O God. Do not be quiet.

2 C ăci protivnicii au deschis împotriva mea o gură rea şi înşelătoare, îmi vorbesc cu o limbă mincinoasă,

For sinners and liars have opened their mouths against me. They have spoken against me with lying tongues.

3 m ă înconjoară cu cuvîntări pline de ură, şi se războiesc cu mine fără temei.

They have gathered around me with words of hate. They fought against me for no reason.

4 P e cînd eu îi iubesc, ei îmi sînt protivnici; dar eu alerg la rugăciune.

I give them my love but they speak against me in return. But I am in prayer.

5 E i îmi întorc rău pentru bine, şi ură pentru dragostea mea.

They pay me what is bad for what is good. They give me hate for my love.

6 P e vrăjmaşul meu pune -l supt stăpînirea unui om rău, şi un pîrîş să stea la dreapta lui!

Let a sinful man have power over him. Let one who speaks against him stand at his right hand.

7 C înd va fi judecat, să fie găsit vinovat, şi rugăciunea lui să treacă drept un păcat!

When he is tried, let him be found guilty. And may his prayer become sin.

8 P uţine să -i fie zilele la număr, şi slujba să i -o ia altul!

Let his days be few. Let another person take over his work.

9 S ă -i rămînă copiii orfani, şi nevastă-sa văduvă!

Let his children be without a father. And let his wife be without a husband.

10 C opiii lui să umble fără niciun căpătîi şi să cerşească, să-şi caute pînea departe de locuinţa lor dărîmată!

May his children go around begging. And may they look for food far from their destroyed homes.

11 C el ce l -a împrumutat, să -i pună mîna pe tot ce are, şi străinii să -i jăfuiască rodul muncii lui!

Let the one to whom he owes money take all that he has. May strangers take away all he has worked for.

12 N imeni să nu mai ţină la el, şi nimeni să n'aibă milă de orfanii lui!

May no one show him kindness. Let no one pity his children who have no father.

13 U rmaşii lui să fie nimiciţi, şi să li se stîngă numele în neamul următor!

Let his children be cut off. Do not let their family name be remembered by the people-to-come.

14 N elegiuirea părinţilor săi să rămînă ca aducere aminte înaintea Domnului, şi să nu se şteargă păcatul mamei lui!

Let the sins of his fathers be remembered by the Lord, and do not let the sins of his mother be forgotten.

15 D omnul să -i aibă totdeauna înaintea ochilor, ca să le şteargă pomenirea de pe pămînt,

May these sins always be before the Lord. So He may not let them be remembered on the earth.

16 p entrucă nu şi -a adus aminte să facă îndurare, pentrucă a prigonit pe cel nenorocit şi pe cel lipsit, pînă acolo încît să omoare pe omul cu inima zdrobită!

Because he did not remember to show loving-kindness. Instead he made it hard for the poor and those in need and those with a broken heart. He even put them to death.

17 Î i plăcea blestemul: să cadă asupra lui! Nu -i plăcea binecuvîntarea: să se depărteze de el!

He loved to curse others, so may it come to him. He did not like to have good come to others, so good was far from him.

18 S e îmbracă cu blestemul cum se îmbracă cu haina lui, îi pătrunde ca apa înlăuntrul lui, ca untdelemnul în oase!

He dressed himself with cursing as with a coat. They came into his body like water and into his bones like oil.

19 D eaceea, să -i slujească de veşmînt ca să se acopere, de încingătoare cu care să fie totdeauna încins!

May they be like clothing that covers him and like a belt that he always wears.

20 A ceasta să fie, din partea Domnului, plata vrăjmaşilor mei, şi a celor ce vorbesc cu răutate de mine!

Let this be what the Lord pays to those who speak against me and wish bad things would happen to me.

21 I ar Tu, Doamne, Dumnezeule, lucrează pentru mine din pricina Numelui Tău, căci mare este bunătatea ta; izbăveşte-mă!

But You, O God, the Lord, be kind to me because of Your name. Take me out of trouble because Your loving-kindness is good.

22 S înt nenorocit şi lipsit, şi îmi e rănită inima înlăuntrul meu.

For I am in trouble and in need. And my heart is hurt within me.

23 P ier ca umbra gata să treacă, sînt izgonit ca o lăcustă.

I am passing like an evening shadow. I am shaken off like a locust.

24 M i-au slăbit genunchii de post, şi mi s'a sleit trupul de slăbiciune.

My knees are weak from going without food. And my body has lost all its fat.

25 A m ajuns de ocară lor; cînd mă privesc ei, dau din cap.

Others laugh at me. They look at me and shake their heads.

26 A jută-mi, Doamne, Dumnezeul meu! Scapă-mă prin bunătatea Ta!

Help me, O Lord my God! Save me by Your loving-kindness.

27 Ş i să ştie că mîna Ta, că Tu, Doamne, ai făcut lucrul acesta!

Let them know that this is Your hand and that You, O Lord, have done it.

28 M ăcar că ei blastămă, Tu binecuvintează; măcar că se ridică ei împotriva mea, vor fi înfruntaţi, iar robul Tău se va bucura.

Let them hope that bad things will happen. But You make good things happen. Let them be ashamed when they rise up against me. But let Your servant be full of joy.

29 P rotivnicii mei să se îmbrace cu ocara, să se acopere cu ruşinea lor cum se acopăr cu o manta!

Let those who speak against me be dressed with shame. Let them cover themselves with shame as with a coat.

30 V oi lăuda foarte mult cu gura mea pe Domnul, Îl voi mări în mijlocul mulţimii;

I will give thanks to the Lord in a loud voice. I will praise Him among many people.

31 c ăci El stă la dreapta săracului, ca să -l izbăvească de cei ce -l osîndesc.

For He stands at the right hand of the one in need to save him from those who judge his soul.
