1 S ă n'aduci jertfă Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, vreun bou, sau vreun miel care să aibă vreun cusur sau vreo meteahnă trupească; căci ar fi o urîciune înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău.

“Do not give to the Lord your God a bull or a sheep which is not perfect. For that is a hated thing to the Lord your God.

2 S e va găsi poate în mijlocul tău, într'una din cetăţile pe cari ţi le dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, un bărbat sau o femeie care să facă ce este rău înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, şi care să calce legămîntul Lui;

“You may find among you, within any of your towns the Lord your God gives you, a man or a woman who does what is sinful in the eyes of the Lord your God by sinning against the Lord’s agreement.

3 c are să meargă după alţi dumnezei ca să le slujească şi să se închine înaintea lor, după soare, lună sau toată oştirea cerurilor, aşa cum eu n'am poruncit.

If he has served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon or the stars, which I have told him not to worship,

4 D e îndată ce vei lua cunoştinţă şi vei afla lucrul acesta, să faci cercetări amănunţite. Dacă lucrul este adevărat, dacă faptul este întemeiat, dacă urîciunea aceasta a fost săvîrşită în Israel,

and if someone told you about this, then you should do your best to find out if it is true. If it is true that this hated thing has been done in Israel,

5 a tunci să aduci la porţile cetăţii tale pe bărbatul sau femeia care va fi vinovat de această faptă rea, şi să ucizi cu pietre sau să pedepseşti cu moartea pe bărbatul acela sau pe femeia aceea.

then bring that man or woman who has done this sinful act to your gates, and kill the man or woman with stones.

6 C el vinovat de moarte să fie omorît pe mărturia a doi sau trei martori; să nu fie omorît pe mărturia unui singur martor.

If two or three people tell what they know against this person, he who is to die must be put to death. But he should not be put to death if only one person speaks against him.

7 Î ntăi mîna martorilor să se ridice asupra lui ca să -l omoare, şi apoi mîna întregului popor. Să scoţi astfel răul din mijlocul tău.

Those who speak against him should be first to put him to death. And then all the people should join them. You must get rid of all sin from among you.

8 D acă ţi se va părea prea greu de judecat o pricină privitoare la un omor, la o neînţelegere, sau la o rănire, şi va da prilej la ceartă în lăuntrul cetăţii tale, să te scoli şi să te sui la locul pe care -l va alege Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

“There may be a problem too hard for you to decide, between two kinds of killing, between two kinds of questions about the law, between two kinds of hurting, problems argued about in your courts. Then get up and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses.

9 S ă te duci la preoţi, Leviţi, şi la cel ce va împlini atunci slujba de judecător; să -i întrebi, şi ei îţi vor spune hotărîrea legii.

Go to the Levite religious leader or the judge who is at work at that time. Ask them, and they will tell you what they decide.

10 S ă faci cum îţi vor spune ei în locul pe care -l va alege Domnul, şi să ai grijă să faci cum te vor învăţa ei.

Then do what should be done by what they tell you they have decided at that place which the Lord chooses. Be careful to do all they tell you.

11 S ă faci după legea pe care te vor învăţa şi după hotărîrea pe care o vor rosti ei, să nu te abaţi dela ce-ţi vor spune ei, nici la dreapta nici la stînga.

Do what they teach you about the Law and about what they decide. Do not turn aside from what they tell you to do, to the right or to the left.

12 O mul care, din mîndrie, nu va asculta de preotul pus acolo ca să slujească Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, sau care nu va asculta de judecător, omul acela să fie pedepsit cu moartea. Să scoţi astfel răul din mijlocul lui Israel,

The man must die who does foolish things and will not listen to the judge or the religious leader who serves the Lord your God. You must get rid of sin from Israel.

13 p entruca tot poporul să audă şi să se teamă, şi să nu se mai îngîmfe.

Then all the people will hear and be afraid. They will not act in a foolish way again. A King

14 D upăce vei intra în ţara pe care ţi -o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi o vei stăpîni, după ce-ţi vei aşeza locuinţa, şi vei zice:,, Vreau să pun peste mine un împărat, ca toate neamurile cari mă înconjoară,`` -

“When you go into the land the Lord your God gives you, and own it and live in it, and you say, ‘I will have a king rule over me like all the nations around me,’

15 s ă pui peste tine ca împărat pe acela pe care -l va alege Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi anume să iei un împărat din mijlocul fraţilor tăi; nu vei putea să pui împărat pe un străin, care să nu fie fratele tău.

then you will set a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses. Set a king over you from among your brothers. Do not give a stranger power over you if he is not your brother.

16 D ar să n'aibă mulţi cai, şi să nu întoarcă pe popor în Egipt ca să aibă mulţi cai; căci Domnul v'a zis:,, Să nu vă mai întoarceţi pe drumul acela.``

He must not take many horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get many horses. Because the Lord has told you, ‘You must never again return that way.’

17 S ă n'aibă un mare număr de neveste, ca să nu i se abată inima; şi să nu strîngă mari grămezi de argint şi aur.

He must not take many wives for himself or his heart may turn away. And he must not gather much silver and gold for himself.

18 C înd se va aşeza pe scaunul de domnie al împărăţiei lui, să scrie pentru el, într'o carte, o copie a acestei legi, pe care s'o ia dela preoţii din neamul Leviţilor.

“When he sits on the throne of his nation, he should write this Law for himself in a book in front of the Levite religious leaders.

19 V a trebui s'o aibă cu el şi s'o citească în toate zilele vieţii lui, ca să înveţe să se teamă de Domnul, Dumnezeul lui, să păzească şi să împlinească toate cuvintele din legea aceasta şi toate poruncile acestea,

It should be kept with him and he should read it all the days of his life. Then he will learn to fear the Lord his God, by being careful to obey all the words of these Laws.

20 p entruca inima lui să nu se înalţe mai pe sus de fraţii lui, şi să nu se abată dela poruncile acestea nici la dreapta nici la stînga, şi să aibă astfel multe zile în împărăţia lui, el şi copiii lui, în mijlocul lui Israel.

And he will not think he is better than his brothers. He will not turn aside from the Law, to the right or to the left, so that he and his children may live long in his nation in Israel.
