1 L 'Eterno parlò ancora a Mosè nel deserto del Sinai, nella tenda di convegno, il primo giorno del secondo mese, nel secondo anno dalla loro uscita dal paese d'Egitto, e disse:

“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male individually,

3 D all'età di vent'anni in su, tutti coloro che in Israele possono andare in guerra; tu ed Aaronne ne farete il censimento, schiera per schiera.

from twenty years old and above—all who are able to go to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

4 E con voi sarà un uomo per ogni tribù, uno che sia capo della casa di suo padre.

And with you there shall be a man from every tribe, each one the head of his father’s house.

5 Q uesti sono i nomi degli uomini che staranno con voi. Di Ruben, Elitsur, figlio di Scedeur;

“These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: from Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur;

6 d i Simeone, Scelumiel, figlio di Tsurishaddai;

from Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai;

7 d i Giuda, Nahshon, figlio di Amminadab;

from Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab;

8 d i Issacar, Nethaneel, figlio di Tsuar;

from Issachar, Nethanel the son of Zuar;

9 d i Zabulon, Eliab, figlio di Helon;

from Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon;

10 d ei figli di Giuseppe, per Efraim, Elishama, figlio di Ammihud; per Manasse, Gamaliel, figlio di Pedahtsur;

from the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur;

11 d i Beniamino, Abidan, figlio di Ghideoni;

from Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni;

12 d i Dan, Ahiezer, figlio di Ammishaddai;

from Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai;

13 d i Ascer, Paghiel, figlio di Okran;

from Asher, Pagiel the son of Ocran;

14 d i Gad, Eliasaf, figlio di Deuel;

from Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel;

15 d i Neftali, Ahira, figlio di Enan».

from Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan.”

16 Q uesti sono coloro che furono scelti dall'assemblea, i principi delle tribù dei loro padri, i capi delle divisioni d'Israele

These were chosen from the congregation, leaders of their fathers’ tribes, heads of the divisions in Israel.

17 M osè ed Aaronne presero dunque questi uomini che erano stati designati per nome,

Then Moses and Aaron took these men who had been mentioned by name,

18 e convocarono tutta l'assemblea, il primo giorno del secondo mese; essi indicarono il loro lignaggio, in base alle loro famiglie e alle case dei loro padri, contando il numero delle persone dai vent'anni in su, uno per uno.

and they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they recited their ancestry by families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and above, each one individually.

19 C ome l'Eterno aveva ordinato a Mosè, egli ne fece il censimento nel deserto del Sinai.

As the Lord commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the Wilderness of Sinai.

20 D ei figli di Ruben, primogenito d'Israele, i loro discendenti in base alle loro famiglie e alle case dei loro padri, contando i nomi di tutti i maschi, uno per uno, dall'età di vent'anni in su, tutti quelli che erano abili ad andare in guerra:

44 Q uesti furono quelli recensiti da Mosè ed Aaronne, assieme ai dodici uomini, principi d'Israele, ognuno di essi rappresentante della casa di suo padre.

These are the ones who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, with the leaders of Israel, twelve men, each one representing his father’s house.

45 C osì tutti i figli d'Israele che furono recensiti in base alle case dei loro padri, dall'età di vent'anni in su, cioè tutti gli uomini che in Israele erano abili ad andare in guerra,

So all who were numbered of the children of Israel, by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war in Israel—

46 t utti quelli recensiti furono seicentotremila cinquecento cinquanta.

all who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

47 M a i Leviti non furono recensiti assieme agli altri, secondo la tribù dei loro padri,

But the Levites were not numbered among them by their fathers’ tribe;

48 p oiché l'Eterno aveva parlato a Mosè, dicendo:

for the Lord had spoken to Moses, saying:

49 « Soltanto della tribù di Levi non farai il censimento e non calcolerai il loro numero tra i figli d'Israele;

“Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, nor take a census of them among the children of Israel;

50 m a affida ai Leviti la cura del tabernacolo della testimonianza, di tutti i suoi utensili e di tutto ciò che gli appartiene. Essi porteranno il tabernacolo e tutti i suoi utensili, ne faranno il servizio e si accamperanno intorno al tabernacolo.

but you shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the Testimony, over all its furnishings, and over all things that belong to it; they shall carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they shall attend to it and camp around the tabernacle.

51 Q uando il tabernacolo deve spostarsi, i Leviti lo smonteranno; quando il tabernacolo deve fermarsi, i Leviti lo erigeranno; e l'estraneo che si avvicinerà sarà messo a morte.

And when the tabernacle is to go forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The outsider who comes near shall be put to death.

52 I figli d'Israele pianteranno le loro tende ognuno nel suo campo, ognuno vicino alla sua bandiera, secondo le loro schiere.

The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, everyone by his own camp, everyone by his own standard, according to their armies;

53 M a i Leviti pianteranno le loro tende attorno al tabernacolo della testimonianza, affinché la mia ira non cada sull'assemblea dei figli d'Israele; così i Leviti si prenderanno cura del tabernacolo della testimonianza.

but the Levites shall camp around the tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel; and the Levites shall keep charge of the tabernacle of the Testimony.”

54 I figli d'Israele si conformarono a tutto ciò che l'Eterno aveva ordinato a Mosè, e così fecero.

Thus the children of Israel did; according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so they did.
