1 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,

2 « Figlio d'uomo, profetizza e di' Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Gemete: ahimè, il giorno!

“Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Wail, ‘Woe to the day!’

3 P oiché il giorno è vicino, è vicino il giorno dell'Eterno; sarà un giorno di nuvole, il tempo delle nazioni.

For the day is near, Even the day of the Lord is near; It will be a day of clouds, the time of the Gentiles.

4 L a spada verrà sull'Egitto e ci sarà grande angoscia in Etiopia quando in Egitto cadranno i feriti a morte, porteranno via le sue ricchezze e le sue fondamenta saranno rovesciate.

The sword shall come upon Egypt, And great anguish shall be in Ethiopia, When the slain fall in Egypt, And they take away her wealth, And her foundations are broken down.

5 L 'Etiopia, Put, Lud, tutta la mescolanza di vari popoli, Kub, e i figli dei paesi alleati cadranno con loro di spada».

“Ethiopia, Libya, Lydia, all the mingled people, Chub, and the men of the lands who are allied, shall fall with them by the sword.”

6 C osì dice l'Eterno: «Coloro che sostengono l'Egitto cadranno e l'orgoglio della sua forza sarà abbattuto; da Migdol a Syene cadranno in esso di spada», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

‘Thus says the Lord: “Those who uphold Egypt shall fall, And the pride of her power shall come down. From Migdol to Syene Those within her shall fall by the sword,” Says the Lord God.

7 « Saranno desolati in mezzo a terre desolate e le loro città saranno in mezzo a città devastate.

“They shall be desolate in the midst of the desolate countries, And her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are laid waste.

8 R iconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno, quando metterò fuoco in Egitto e tutti i suoi soccorritori saranno schiacciati.

Then they will know that I am the Lord, When I have set a fire in Egypt And all her helpers are destroyed.

9 I n quel giorno partiranno dalla mia presenza messaggeri su navi, che faranno spaventare l'incurante Etiopia, e grande angoscia verrà su di loro come nel giorno dell'Egitto. Sí, ecco, la cosa sta per accadere».

On that day messengers shall go forth from Me in ships To make the careless Ethiopians afraid, And great anguish shall come upon them, As on the day of Egypt; For indeed it is coming!”

10 C osí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Farò cessare il rumoreggiare dell'Egitto per mezzo di Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia.

‘Thus says the Lord God: “I will also make a multitude of Egypt to cease By the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.

11 E gli e il suo popolo con lui, i piú terribili fra le nazioni, saranno fatti venire per distruggere il paese; sguaineranno le loro spade contro l'Egitto e riempiranno il paese di uccisi.

He and his people with him, the most terrible of the nations, Shall be brought to destroy the land; They shall draw their swords against Egypt, And fill the land with the slain.

12 P rosciugherò i fiumi e venderò il paese in mano di genti malvagie; e per mezzo di stranieri renderò desolato il paese e tutto ciò che contiene. Io, l'Eterno, ho parlato».

I will make the rivers dry, And sell the land into the hand of the wicked; I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, By the hand of aliens. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

13 C osí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Distruggerò gli idoli e farò sparire i falsi dèi da Nof; non ci sarà piú principe dal paese d'Egitto e metterò lo spavento nel paese d'Egitto.

‘Thus says the Lord God: “I will also destroy the idols, And cause the images to cease from Noph; There shall no longer be princes from the land of Egypt; I will put fear in the land of Egypt.

14 R enderò Pathros desolata, darò fuoco a Tsoan, eseguirò i miei giudizi su No,

I will make Pathros desolate, Set fire to Zoan, And execute judgments in No.

15 r iverserò il mio furore su Sin, la fortezza dell'Egitto, e sterminerò la moltitudine di No.

I will pour My fury on Sin, the strength of Egypt; I will cut off the multitude of No,

16 D arò fuoco all'Egitto: Sin si torcerà dal dolore, No sarà squarciata. Nof sarà in angoscia ogni giorno.

And set a fire in Egypt; Sin shall have great pain, No shall be split open, And Noph shall be in distress daily.

17 I giovani di Aven, e di Pibeseth cadranno di spada e queste città andranno in cattività.

The young men of Aven and Pi Beseth shall fall by the sword, And these cities shall go into captivity.

18 A Tahpanhes, il giorno si oscurerà quando là spezzerò i gioghi imposti dall'Egitto; e in essa verrà meno l'orgoglio della sua forza. Quanto a lei, una nuvola la coprirà e le sue figlie andranno in cattività.

At Tehaphnehes the day shall also be darkened, When I break the yokes of Egypt there. And her arrogant strength shall cease in her; As for her, a cloud shall cover her, And her daughters shall go into captivity.

19 C osí eseguirò i miei giudizi sull'Egitto. Allora riconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno».

Thus I will execute judgments on Egypt, Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”’” Proclamation Against Pharaoh

20 N ell'anno undicesimo, il primo mese, il settimo giorno del mese, avvenne che la parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

21 « Figlio d'uomo, io ho spezzato il braccio del Faraone, re d'Egitto; ed ecco, non è stato fasciato mettendovi medicamenti né fasciato con bende per renderlo forte abbastanza per maneggiare una spada».

“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and see, it has not been bandaged for healing, nor a splint put on to bind it, to make it strong enough to hold a sword.

22 P erciò cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Ecco, io sono contro il Faraone, re d'Egitto, per spezzargli le braccia, tanto quello forte, quanto quello già spezzato e gli farò cadere di mano la spada.

Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Surely I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, both the strong one and the one that was broken; and I will make the sword fall out of his hand.

23 D isperderò quindi gli Egiziani fra le nazioni e li disseminerò per vari paesi.

I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them throughout the countries.

24 F ortificherò le braccia del re di Babilonia e gli metterò in mano la mia spada, ma spezzerò le braccia del Faraone che gemerà davanti a lui, come geme un uomo ferito a morte.

I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put My sword in his hand; but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he will groan before him with the groanings of a mortally wounded man.

25 C osí fortificherò le braccia del re di Babilonia ma le braccia del Faraone cadranno; riconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno, quando metterò la mia spada in mano del re di Babilonia, ed egli la stenderà contro il paese d'Egitto.

Thus I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; they shall know that I am the Lord, when I put My sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt.

26 D isperderò gli Egiziani fra le nazioni a e li disseminerò per vari paesi. Allora riconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno».

I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.’”
