1 O r dopo la calamità, avvenne che l'Eterno parlò a Mosè e ad Eleazar, figlio del sacerdote Aaronne, dicendo:

And it came to pass, after the plague, that the Lord spoke to Moses and Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying:

2 « Fate il censimento di tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele, dall'età di vent'anni in su, in base alle case dei loro padri, di tutti coloro che in Israele possono andare in guerra».

“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel from twenty years old and above, by their fathers’ houses, all who are able to go to war in Israel.”

3 C osì Mosè e il sacerdote Eleazar parlarono loro nelle pianure di Moab presso il Giordano sulla sponda opposta a Gerico, dicendo:

So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho, saying:

4 « Si faccia il censimento della gente dall'età di venti anni in su, come l'Eterno ha ordinato a Mosè e ai figli d'Israele, quando uscirono dal paese d'Egitto».

“ Take a census of the people from twenty years old and above, just as the Lord commanded Moses and the children of Israel who came out of the land of Egypt.”

5 R uben era il primogenito d'Israele. I figli di Ruben furono: Hanok da cui discende la famiglia degli Hanokiti; Pallu, da cui discende la famiglia dei Palluiti;

Reuben was the firstborn of Israel. The children of Reuben were: of Hanoch, the family of the Hanochites; of Pallu, the family of the Palluites;

6 H etsron, da cui discende la famiglia degli Hetsroniti; Karmi da cui discende la famiglia dei Karmiti.

of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Carmi, the family of the Carmites.

7 Q ueste sono le famiglie dei Rubeniti: quelli tra loro recensiti furono quarantatremila settecentotrenta.

These are the families of the Reubenites: those who were numbered of them were forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.

8 I l figlio di Pallu fu Eliab.

And the son of Pallu was Eliab.

9 I figli di Eliab furono: Nemuel, Dathan ed Abiram. Questi sono quel Dathan e quell'Abiram, membri del consiglio, che si ribellarono contro Mosè e contro Aaronne con la gente di Kore, quando si ribellarono contro l'Eterno;

The sons of Eliab were Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. These are the Dathan and Abiram, representatives of the congregation, who contended against Moses and Aaron in the company of Korah, when they contended against the Lord;

10 e la terra aperse la sua bocca e li inghiottì insieme a Kore quando quella gente perì, e il fuoco divorò duecentocinquanta uomini, che servirono come segno di monito.

and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah when that company died, when the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men; and they became a sign.

11 M a i figli di Kore non perirono.

Nevertheless the children of Korah did not die.

Now Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters; and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

52 A llora l'Eterno parlò a Mosè dicendo:

53 « Il paese sarà diviso tra di loro come eredità, secondo il numero delle persone.

“To these the land shall be divided as an inheritance, according to the number of names.

54 A quelli che sono in maggior numero darai in eredità una porzione maggiore; a quelli che sono in minor numero darai una porzione minore; si darà a ciascuno la sua porzione in base a quelli tra loro recensiti.

To a large tribe you shall give a larger inheritance, and to a small tribe you shall give a smaller inheritance. Each shall be given its inheritance according to those who were numbered of them.

55 M a la ripartizione del paese sarà fatta a sorte; essi riceveranno la loro eredità in base ai nomi delle loro tribù paterne.

But the land shall be divided by lot; they shall inherit according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.

56 L a ripartizione della eredità sarà fatta a sorte fra tutte le tribù, grandi e piccole».

According to the lot their inheritance shall be divided between the larger and the smaller.”

59 I l nome della moglie di Amram era Jokebed, figlia di Levi che nacque a Levi in Egitto; ad Amram essa partorì Aaronne, Mosè e Miriam loro sorella.

The name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt; and to Amram she bore Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam.

60 A d Aaronne nacquero Nadab e Abihu, Eleazar e Ithamar.

To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

61 O r Nadab e Abihu morirono quando presentarono all'Eterno fuoco illecito.

And Nadab and Abihu died when they offered profane fire before the Lord.

62 Q uelli tra loro recensiti furono ventitremila: tutti maschi dall'età di un mese in su. Essi non furono recensiti con gli altri figli d'Israele, perché non fu loro data alcuna eredità tra i figli d'Israele.

Now those who were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, every male from a month old and above; for they were not numbered among the other children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given to them among the children of Israel.

65 P oiché l'Eterno aveva detto di loro: «Essi moriranno, moriranno nel deserto!». E di loro non rimase neppure uno, ad eccezione di Caleb, figlio di Jefunneh, e di Giosuè figlio di Nun.

For the Lord had said of them, “They shall surely die in the wilderness.” So there was not left a man of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
