1 L a parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,

2 F ils de l'homme, prophétise, et dis: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Gémissez!... Malheureux jour!

“Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Wail, ‘Woe to the day!’

3 C ar le jour approche, le jour de l'Éternel approche, Jour ténébreux: ce sera le temps des nations.

For the day is near, Even the day of the Lord is near; It will be a day of clouds, the time of the Gentiles.

4 L 'épée fondra sur l'Égypte, Et l'épouvante sera dans l'Éthiopie, Quand les morts tomberont en Égypte, Quand on enlèvera ses richesses, Et que ses fondements seront renversés.

The sword shall come upon Egypt, And great anguish shall be in Ethiopia, When the slain fall in Egypt, And they take away her wealth, And her foundations are broken down.

5 L 'Éthiopie, Puth, Lud, toute l'Arabie, Cub, Et les fils du pays allié, Tomberont avec eux par l'épée.

“Ethiopia, Libya, Lydia, all the mingled people, Chub, and the men of the lands who are allied, shall fall with them by the sword.”

6 A insi parle l'Éternel: Ils tomberont, les soutiens de l'Égypte, Et l'orgueil de sa force périra; De Migdol à Syène ils tomberont par l'épée, Dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

‘Thus says the Lord: “Those who uphold Egypt shall fall, And the pride of her power shall come down. From Migdol to Syene Those within her shall fall by the sword,” Says the Lord God.

7 I ls seront dévastés entre les pays dévastés, Et ses villes seront entre les villes désertes.

“They shall be desolate in the midst of the desolate countries, And her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are laid waste.

8 E t ils sauront que je suis l'Éternel, Quand je mettrai le feu dans l'Égypte, Et que tous ses soutiens seront brisés.

Then they will know that I am the Lord, When I have set a fire in Egypt And all her helpers are destroyed.

9 E n ce jour-là, des messagers iront de ma part sur des navires Troubler l'Éthiopie dans sa sécurité; Et l'épouvante sera parmi eux au jour de l'Égypte, Car voici, ces choses arrivent!

On that day messengers shall go forth from Me in ships To make the careless Ethiopians afraid, And great anguish shall come upon them, As on the day of Egypt; For indeed it is coming!”

10 A insi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Je ferai disparaître la multitude de l'Égypte, Par la main de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone.

‘Thus says the Lord God: “I will also make a multitude of Egypt to cease By the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.

11 L ui et son peuple avec lui, Le plus violent d'entre les peuples, Seront envoyés pour détruire le pays; Ils tireront l'épée contre l'Égypte, Et rempliront le pays de morts.

He and his people with him, the most terrible of the nations, Shall be brought to destroy the land; They shall draw their swords against Egypt, And fill the land with the slain.

12 J e mettrai les canaux à sec, Je livrerai le pays entre les mains des méchants; Je ravagerai le pays et ce qu'il renferme, par la main des étrangers. Moi, l'Éternel, j'ai parlé.

I will make the rivers dry, And sell the land into the hand of the wicked; I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, By the hand of aliens. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

13 A insi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: J'anéantirai les idoles, Et j'ôterai de Noph les vains simulacres; Il n'y aura plus de prince du pays d'Égypte, Et je répandrai la terreur dans le pays d'Égypte.

‘Thus says the Lord God: “I will also destroy the idols, And cause the images to cease from Noph; There shall no longer be princes from the land of Egypt; I will put fear in the land of Egypt.

14 J e dévasterai Pathros, Je mettrai le feu à Tsoan, Et j'exercerai mes jugements sur No.

I will make Pathros desolate, Set fire to Zoan, And execute judgments in No.

15 J e répandrai ma fureur sur Sin, la forteresse de l'Égypte, Et j'exterminerai la multitude de No.

I will pour My fury on Sin, the strength of Egypt; I will cut off the multitude of No,

16 J e mettrai le feu dans l'Égypte; Sin sera saisie d'angoisse, No sera ouverte par la brèche, Et Noph conquise en plein jour par les ennemis.

And set a fire in Egypt; Sin shall have great pain, No shall be split open, And Noph shall be in distress daily.

17 L es jeunes hommes d'On et de Pi Béseth tomberont par l'épée, Et ces villes iront en captivité.

The young men of Aven and Pi Beseth shall fall by the sword, And these cities shall go into captivity.

18 A Tachpanès le jour s'obscurcira, Quand j'y briserai le joug de l'Éternel, Et que l'orgueil de sa force y prendra fin; Un nuage couvrira Tachpanès, Et ses filles iront en captivité.

At Tehaphnehes the day shall also be darkened, When I break the yokes of Egypt there. And her arrogant strength shall cease in her; As for her, a cloud shall cover her, And her daughters shall go into captivity.

19 J 'exercerai mes jugements sur l'Égypte, Et ils sauront que je suis l'Éternel.

Thus I will execute judgments on Egypt, Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”’” Proclamation Against Pharaoh

20 L a onzième année, le septième jour du premier mois, la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

21 F ils de l'homme, j'ai rompu le bras de Pharaon, roi d'Égypte; Et voici, on ne l'a point pansé pour le guérir, On ne l'a point enveloppé d'un bandage Pour le lier et le raffermir, Afin qu'il puisse manier l'épée.

“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and see, it has not been bandaged for healing, nor a splint put on to bind it, to make it strong enough to hold a sword.

22 C 'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Voici, j'en veux à Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, Et je lui romprai les bras, Celui qui est en bon état et celui qui est cassé. Et je ferai tomber l'épée de sa main.

Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Surely I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, both the strong one and the one that was broken; and I will make the sword fall out of his hand.

23 J e répandrai les Égyptiens parmi les nations, Je les disperserai en divers pays.

I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them throughout the countries.

24 J e fortifierai les bras du roi de Babylone, Et je mettrai mon épée dans sa main; Je romprai les bras de Pharaon, Et il gémira devant lui comme gémissent les mourants.

I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put My sword in his hand; but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he will groan before him with the groanings of a mortally wounded man.

25 J e fortifierai les bras du roi de Babylone, Et les bras de Pharaon tomberont. Et ils sauront que je suis l'Éternel, Quand je mettrai mon épée dans la main du roi de Babylone, Et qu'il la tournera contre le pays d'Égypte.

Thus I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; they shall know that I am the Lord, when I put My sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt.

26 J e répandrai les Égyptiens parmi les nations, Je les disperserai en divers pays, Et ils sauront que je suis l'Éternel.

I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.’”
