1 G ardez-vous de pratiquer votre justice devant les hommes, pour en être vus; autrement, vous n'aurez point de récompense auprès de votre Père qui est dans les cieux.

“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

2 L ors donc que tu fais l'aumône, ne sonne pas de la trompette devant toi, comme font les hypocrites dans les synagogues et dans les rues, afin d'être glorifiés par les hommes. Je vous le dis en vérité, ils reçoivent leur récompense.

Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

3 M ais quand tu fais l'aumône, que ta main gauche ne sache pas ce que fait ta droite,

But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

4 a fin que ton aumône se fasse en secret; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.

that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. The Model Prayer

5 L orsque vous priez, ne soyez pas comme les hypocrites, qui aiment à prier debout dans les synagogues et aux coins des rues, pour être vus des hommes. Je vous le dis en vérité, ils reçoivent leur récompense.

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

6 M ais quand tu pries, entre dans ta chambre, ferme ta porte, et prie ton Père qui est là dans le lieu secret; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

7 E n priant, ne multipliez pas de vaines paroles, comme les païens, qui s'imaginent qu'à force de paroles ils seront exaucés.

And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

8 N e leur ressemblez pas; car votre Père sait de quoi vous avez besoin, avant que vous le lui demandiez.

“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

9 V oici donc comment vous devez prier: Notre Père qui es aux cieux! Que ton nom soit sanctifié;

In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

10 q ue ton règne vienne; que ta volonté soit faite sur la terre comme au ciel.

Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

11 D onne-nous aujourd'hui notre pain quotidien;

Give us this day our daily bread.

12 p ardonne-nous nos offenses, comme nous aussi nous pardonnons à ceux qui nous ont offensés;

And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

13 n e nous induis pas en tentation, mais délivre-nous du malin. Car c'est à toi qu'appartiennent, dans tous les siècles, le règne, la puissance et la gloire. Amen!

And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14 S i vous pardonnez aux hommes leurs offenses, votre Père céleste vous pardonnera aussi;

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15 m ais si vous ne pardonnez pas aux hommes, votre Père ne vous pardonnera pas non plus vos offenses.

But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Fasting to Be Seen Only by God

16 L orsque vous jeûnez, ne prenez pas un air triste, comme les hypocrites, qui se rendent le visage tout défait, pour montrer aux hommes qu'ils jeûnent. Je vous le dis en vérité, ils reçoivent leur récompense.

“Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

17 M ais quand tu jeûnes, parfume ta tête et lave ton visage,

But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,

18 a fin de ne pas montrer aux hommes que tu jeûnes, mais à ton Père qui est là dans le lieu secret; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.

so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

19 N e vous amassez pas des trésors sur la terre, où la teigne et la rouille détruisent, et où les voleurs percent et dérobent;

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;

20 m ais amassez-vous des trésors dans le ciel, où la teigne et la rouille ne détruisent point, et où les voleurs ne percent ni ne dérobent.

but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

21 C ar là où est ton trésor, là aussi sera ton coeur.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The Lamp of the Body

22 L 'oeil est la lampe du corps. Si ton oeil est en bon état, tout ton corps sera éclairé;

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light.

23 m ais si ton oeil est en mauvais état, tout ton corps sera dans les ténèbres. Si donc la lumière qui est en toi est ténèbres, combien seront grandes ces ténèbres!

But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! You Cannot Serve God and Riches

24 N ul ne peut servir deux maîtres. Car, ou il haïra l'un, et aimera l'autre; ou il s'attachera à l'un, et méprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mamon.

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Do Not Worry

25 C 'est pourquoi je vous dis: Ne vous inquiétez pas pour votre vie de ce que vous mangerez, ni pour votre corps, de quoi vous serez vêtus. La vie n'est-elle pas plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement?

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

26 R egardez les oiseaux du ciel: ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent, et ils n'amassent rien dans des greniers; et votre Père céleste les nourrit. Ne valez-vous pas beaucoup plus qu'eux?

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

27 Q ui de vous, par ses inquiétudes, peut ajouter une coudée à la durée de sa vie?

Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

28 E t pourquoi vous inquiéter au sujet du vêtement? Considérez comment croissent les lis des champs: ils ne travaillent ni ne filent;

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;

29 c ependant je vous dis que Salomon même, dans toute sa gloire, n'a pas été vêtu comme l'un d'eux.

and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 S i Dieu revêt ainsi l'herbe des champs, qui existe aujourd'hui et qui demain sera jetée au four, ne vous vêtira-t-il pas à plus forte raison, gens de peu de foi?

Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 N e vous inquiétez donc point, et ne dites pas: Que mangerons-nous? que boirons-nous? de quoi serons-nous vêtus?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

32 C ar toutes ces choses, ce sont les païens qui les recherchent. Votre Père céleste sait que vous en avez besoin.

For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

33 C herchez premièrement le royaume et la justice de Dieu; et toutes ces choses vous seront données par-dessus.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

34 N e vous inquiétez donc pas du lendemain; car le lendemain aura soin de lui-même. A chaque jour suffit sa peine.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
