1 D o you know the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth ? do you observe when the hinds are giving birth?

2 C an you number the months that they carry their offspring? Or do you know the time when they are delivered,

можешь ли расчислить месяцы беременности их? и знаешь ли время родов их?

3 W hen they bow themselves, bring forth their young ones, cast out their pains?

Они изгибаются, рождая детей своих, выбрасывая свои ноши;

4 T heir young ones become strong, they grow up in the open field; they go forth and return not to them.

дети их приходят в силу, растут на поле, уходят и не возвращаются к ним.

5 W ho has sent out the wild donkey, giving him his freedom? Or who has loosed the bands of the swift donkey,

Кто пустил дикого осла на свободу, и кто разрешил узы онагру,

6 W hose home I have made the wilderness, and the salt land his dwelling place?

которому степь Я назначил домом и солончаки--жилищем?

7 H e scorns the tumult of the city and hears not the shoutings of the taskmaster.

Он посмевается городскому многолюдству и не слышит криков погонщика,

8 T he range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.

по горам ищет себе пищи и гоняется за всякою зеленью.

9 W ill the wild ox be willing to serve you, or remain beside your manger?

Захочет ли единорог служить тебе и переночует ли у яслей твоих?

10 C an you bind the wild ox with a harness to the plow in the furrow? Or will he harrow the furrows for you?

Можешь ли веревкою привязать единорога к борозде, и станет ли он боронить за тобою поле?

11 W ill you trust him because his strength is great, or to him will you leave your labor?

Понадеешься ли на него, потому что у него сила велика, и предоставишь ли ему работу твою?

12 W ill you depend upon him to bring home your seed and gather the grain of your threshing floor?

Поверишь ли ему, что он семена твои возвратит и сложит на гумно твое?

13 T he wings of the ostrich wave proudly, are they the pinions and plumage of love?

Ты ли дал красивые крылья павлину и перья и пух страусу?

14 T he ostrich leaves her eggs on the ground and warms them in the dust,

Он оставляет яйца свои на земле, и на песке согревает их,

15 F orgetting that a foot may crush them or that the wild beast may trample them.

и забывает, что нога может раздавить их и полевой зверь может растоптать их;

16 S he is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers; her labor is in vain because she has no sense of danger,

он жесток к детям своим, как бы не своим, и не опасается, что труд его будет напрасен;

17 F or God has deprived her of wisdom, neither has He imparted to her understanding.

потому что Бог не дал ему мудрости и не уделил ему смысла;

18 Y et when she lifts herself up in flight, she can laugh to scorn the horse and his rider.

а когда поднимется на высоту, посмевается коню и всаднику его.

19 H ave you given the horse his might? Have you clothed his neck with quivering and a shaking mane?

Ты ли дал коню силу и облек шею его гривою?

20 W as it you who made him to leap like a locust? The majesty of his nostrils is terrible.

Можешь ли ты испугать его, как саранчу? Храпение ноздрей его--ужас;

21 H e paws in the valley and exults in his strength; he goes out to meet the weapons.

роет ногою землю и восхищается силою; идет навстречу оружию;

22 H e mocks at fear and is not dismayed or terrified; neither does he turn back from the sword.

он смеется над опасностью и не робеет и не отворачивается от меча;

23 T he quiver rattles upon him, as do the glittering spear and the lance.

колчан звучит над ним, сверкает копье и дротик;

24 d evour the ground with fierceness and rage; neither can he stand still at the sound of the trumpet.

в порыве и ярости он глотает землю и не может стоять при звуке трубы;

25 A s often as the trumpet sounds he says, Ha, ha! And he smells the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

при трубном звуке он издает голос: гу! гу! и издалека чует битву, громкие голоса вождей и крик.

26 I s it by your wisdom that the hawk soars and stretches her wings toward the south ?

Твоею ли мудростью летает ястреб и направляет крылья свои на полдень?

27 D oes the eagle mount up at your command and make his nest on high ?

По твоему ли слову возносится орел и устрояет на высоте гнездо свое?

28 O n the cliff he dwells and remains securely, upon the point of the rock and the stronghold.

Он живет на скале и ночует на зубце утесов и на местах неприступных;

29 F rom there he spies out the prey; and his eyes see it afar off.

оттуда высматривает себе пищу: глаза его смотрят далеко;

30 H is young ones suck up blood, and where the slain are, there is he.

птенцы его пьют кровь, и где труп, там и он.
