1 D o you know the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth ? do you observe when the hinds are giving birth?

«أتَعْرِفُ مَتَى تَلِدُ المِعزاةُ الجَبَلِيَّةُ؟ أتُراقِبُ الغُزلانَ أثناءَ آلامِ الوِلادَةِ وَتَحْمِيها؟

2 C an you number the months that they carry their offspring? Or do you know the time when they are delivered,

وَتَحْسِبُ الشُّهُورَ حَتَّى تَلِدَ؟ هَلْ تَعْرِفُ وَقتَ وِلادَتِها؟

3 W hen they bow themselves, bring forth their young ones, cast out their pains?

حِينَ تَربِضُ وَتَلِدُ أولادَها، وَتَتَخَلَّصُ مِنْ آلامِها.

4 T heir young ones become strong, they grow up in the open field; they go forth and return not to them.

يَصِيرُ أولادُها أقوِياءَ، يَكبُرُونَ فِي البَرِّيَّةِ. يَترُكُونَ أُمَّهاتِهِمْ وَلا يَعُودُونَ.

5 W ho has sent out the wild donkey, giving him his freedom? Or who has loosed the bands of the swift donkey,

«مَنِ الَّذِي أطلَقَ الحِمارَ البَرِّيَّ؟ مَنْ حَلَّهُ؟

6 W hose home I have made the wilderness, and the salt land his dwelling place?

جَعَلْتُ لَهُ فِي الصَّحْراءِ بَيتاً، وَمَكانَ سَكَنٍ فِي الأرْضِ المالِحَةِ.

7 H e scorns the tumult of the city and hears not the shoutings of the taskmaster.

يَضحَكُ عَلَى ضَجِيجِ المَدِينَةِ، وَلا يَسمَعُ أوامِرَ مُراقِبِ العَمَلِ.

8 T he range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.

يَطُوفُ التِّلالَ بَحثاً عَنْ مَراعِيهِ، وَيَسعَى إلَى كُلِّ ما هُوَ أخضَرُ.

9 W ill the wild ox be willing to serve you, or remain beside your manger?

«أيَرْضَى الثَّورُ البَرِّيَّ أنْ يَكُونَ لَكَ خادِماً؟ أوْ أنْ يَبِيتَ عِندَ مِذوَدِكَ؟

10 C an you bind the wild ox with a harness to the plow in the furrow? Or will he harrow the furrows for you?

أتَقْدِرُ أنْ تَضَعَ نِيراً عَلَى جامُوسٍ بَرِّيٍّ لِيَحرُثَ؟ أمْ يَرضَى بِأنْ يُمَهِّدَ الحُقُولَ خَلفَكَ؟

11 W ill you trust him because his strength is great, or to him will you leave your labor?

أتَتَّكِلُ عَلَيهِ لِقُوَّتِهِ العَظِيمَةِ؟ وَهَلْ تَترُكُ لَهُ عَمَلَكَ المُتْعِبَ؟

12 W ill you depend upon him to bring home your seed and gather the grain of your threshing floor?

أتَتَّكِلُ عَلَيهِ لِيُحضِرَ زَرعَكَ، وَيَجمَعَهُ إلَى بَيدَرِكَ؟

13 T he wings of the ostrich wave proudly, are they the pinions and plumage of love?

«يُصَفِّقُ جَناحا النَّعامَةِ، مَعَ أنَّهُما لَيسا كَجَناحِ اللَّقلَقِ وَرِيشِهِ.

14 T he ostrich leaves her eggs on the ground and warms them in the dust,

لَكِنَّها تَتْرُكُ بَيْضَها عَلَى الأرْضِ، تَضَعُهُ عَلَى التُّرابِ لِتُبقِيهِ دافِئاً.

15 F orgetting that a foot may crush them or that the wild beast may trample them.

ثُمَّ تَنسَى أنَّ قَدَماً قَدْ تَدُوسُهُ، وَأنَّ حَيواناً بَرِّيّاً قَدْ يَسحَقُهُ.

16 S he is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers; her labor is in vain because she has no sense of danger,

تَقسُو عَلَى صِغارِها كَأنَّهُمْ لَيسُوا لَها. وَلا يُقلِقُها إنْ كانَتْ قَدْ تَعِبَتْ عَبَثاً،

17 F or God has deprived her of wisdom, neither has He imparted to her understanding.

لأنَّ اللهَ مَنَعَ عَنها الحِكْمَةَ، وَلَمْ يُعطِها فَهْماً.

18 Y et when she lifts herself up in flight, she can laugh to scorn the horse and his rider.

لَكِنْ عِندَما تَنهَضُ وَتَبدَأُ العَدْوَ، تَضحَكُ عَلَى الحِصانِ وَراكِبِهِ.

19 H ave you given the horse his might? Have you clothed his neck with quivering and a shaking mane?

أأنْتَ مَنْ تُعطِي الحِصانَ قُوَّتَهُ، وَتَكسُو عُنُقَهُ عُرْفاً مُنْساباً؟

20 W as it you who made him to leap like a locust? The majesty of his nostrils is terrible.

أتَجعَلُهُ يَثِبُ كَجَرادَةٍ، وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُخِيفُ النّاسَ بِصَهِيلِهِ ذِي الكِبرِياءِ؟

21 H e paws in the valley and exults in his strength; he goes out to meet the weapons.

يَضرِبُ الأرْضَ بِعُنفٍ بِحافِرِهِ، وَيُسرِعُ بِكُلِّ قُوَّتِهِ إلَى المَعرَكَةِ.

22 H e mocks at fear and is not dismayed or terrified; neither does he turn back from the sword.

يَهزَأُ بِالخَوفِ وَلا يَفزَعُ، وَلا يَتَراجَعُ أمامَ السَّيفِ.

23 T he quiver rattles upon him, as do the glittering spear and the lance.

تُقَعْقِعُ عَلَيهِ جَعْبَةُ السِّهامِ، وَوَمِيضُ الحَربِ وَالرِّماحِ.

24 d evour the ground with fierceness and rage; neither can he stand still at the sound of the trumpet.

يَبتَلِعُ الأرْضَ وَسَطَ ضَجِيجِ الحَربِ، وَعِندَ صَوتِ البُوقِ لا يَهدَأُ،

25 A s often as the trumpet sounds he says, Ha, ha! And he smells the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

عِندَ نَفخِ البُوقِ يَصهَلُ مُتَحَمِّساً! وَيَشُمُّ رائِحَةَ المَعرَكَةِ مِنْ بَعِيدٍ. يَسمَعُ صِياحَ القادَةِ وَصَرَخاتِ القِتالِ.

26 I s it by your wisdom that the hawk soars and stretches her wings toward the south ?

«أتَفهَمُ كَيفَ يَطِيرُ الصَّقرُ، وَيَنشُرُ جَناحَيْهِ حَولَ الجَنُوبِ؟

27 D oes the eagle mount up at your command and make his nest on high ?

أيُحَلِّقُ النَّسرُ بِأمرِكَ؟ وَيَبنِي عُشَّهُ فِي الأعالِي؟

28 O n the cliff he dwells and remains securely, upon the point of the rock and the stronghold.

يَسْكُنُ عَلَى صَخْرَةٍ شاهِقَةٍ، وَيَبِيتُ عَلَى قِمَّتِها، وَيَجعَلُها حِصْناً لَهُ.

29 F rom there he spies out the prey; and his eyes see it afar off.

يَبحَثُ عَنْ طَعامِهِ مِنْ هُناكَ، وَيُراقِبُ فَرِيسَتَهُ عَنْ بُعْدٍ.

30 H is young ones suck up blood, and where the slain are, there is he.

تَلْعَقُ صِغارُهُ الدَّمَ، وَحَيْثُ الجُثَثُ، فَهُناكَ تَجِدُهُ.»
