1 O ne day Jonathan son of Saul said to his armor-bearer, Come, let us go over to the Philistine garrison on the other side. But he did not tell his father.

وَفِي ذَلِكَ اليَومِ كانَ يُوناثانُ بْنُ شاوُلَ يَتَحَدَّثُ إلَى الشّابِّ الَّذِي كانَ يَحمِلُ أسلِحَتَهُ، فَقالَ: «لِنَذْهَبْ إلَى مُخَيَّمِ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ عَلَى الجانِبِ الآخَرِ مِنَ الوادِي.» لَكِنَّ يُوناثانَ لَمْ يُخبِرْ أباهُ بِما يَنوِي عَمَلَهُ.

2 S aul was remaining in the outskirts of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree in Migron; and with him were about 600 men,

وَكانَ شاوُلُ جالِساً تَحتَ شَجَرَةِ رُمّانٍ فِي مِغْرُونَ عِندَ طَرَفِ التَّلَّةِ. وَمَعَهُ نَحْوَ سِتَّ مِئَةِ رَجُلٍ.

3 A nd Ahijah son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the Lord’s priest in Shiloh, was wearing the ephod. And the people did not know that Jonathan was gone.

وَكانَ مَعَهُ رَجُلٌ اسْمُهُ أبِيّا بْنُ أخِيطُوبَ أخِي إيخابُودَ بْنِ فِينْحاسَ بْنِ عالِي الَّذِي كانَ كاهِناً لِلرَّبِّ فِي شِيلُوهَ. كانَ أبِيّا هَذا كاهِنَ اللهِ يَرْتَدي الثَّوبَ الكَهَنُوتِيَّ. وَلَمْ يَعلَم هَؤُلاءِ الرِّجالُ أنَّ يُوناثانَ قَدْ تَرَكَهُمْ.

4 B etween the passes by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistine garrison there was a rocky crag on the one side and a rocky crag on the other side; one was named Bozez, and the other Seneh.

نَوَى يُوناثانُ أًنْ يَمُرَّ مِنْ مَعبَرٍ لِلوُصُولِ إلَى مُعَسكَرِ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ. وَكانَتْ هُناكَ صَخرَةٌ كَبِيرَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ جانبٍ مِنْ جانِبَيِّ المَعبَرِ. اسْمُ الصَّخرَةِ الكَبِيرَةِ الأُولَى عَلَى الجانِبِ الأوَّلِ «بُوصِيصُ،» وَاسْمُ الصَّخرَةِ الكَبِيرَةِ الثّانِيَةِ عَلَى الجانِبِ الثّانِي «سَنَّةَ.»

5 T he one crag rose on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba.

كانَتْ إحدَى الصَّخرَتَينِ مُقابِلَ مِخماسَ، وَالأُخرَى مُقابِلَ جِبْعَ.

6 A nd Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For there is nothing to prevent the Lord from saving by many or by few.

وَقالَ يُوناثانُ لِمُعاوِنِهِ وَحامِلِ سِلاحِهِ: «لِنَذهَبْ إلَى مُعَسكَرِ هَؤُلاءِ اللامَخْتُونِينَ! فَلَعَلَّ اللهَ يَكُونُ مَعَنا فَنَهزِمَهُمْ. فَلا فَرقَ عِندَ اللهِ إنْ استَخدَمَ جُنُوداً كَثِيرِينَ أوْ قَلِيلِينَ، فَهُوَ قادِرٌ عَلَى الانتِصارِ فِي الحالَتَينِ.»

7 A nd his armor-bearer said to him, Do all that is in your mind; I am with you in whatever you think.

فَقالَ لَهُ حامِلُ سلاحِهِ: «افعَلْ ما تَراهُ الأفضَلَ. وَأنا مَعَكَ حَتَّى النِّهاَيَةِ.»

8 J onathan said, We will pass over to these men and we will let them see us.

فَقالَ يُوناثانُ: «لِنَعبُرِ الوادِي إلَى الحَرَسِ الفِلِسْطِيِّ. وَسَنَدَعُهُمْ يَرونَنا.

9 I f they say to us, Wait until we come to you, then we will stand still in our place and will not go up to them.

فَإذا قالُوا لَنا: ‹الزَما مَكانَيْكُما إلَى أنْ نَأْتِيَ إلَيكُما،› فَسَنَلزَمُ مَكانَنا. وَلَنْ نَصْعَدَ إلَيْهِمْ.

10 B ut if they say, Come up to us, we will go up, for the Lord has delivered them into our hand, and this will be our sign.

لَكِنْ إذا قالَ الفِلِسْطِيُّونَ لَنا: ‹اصْعَدُوا إلَى هُنا،› حِينَئِذٍ، سَنَصعَدُ إلَيْهِمْ. فَتَكُونُ هَذِهِ عَلامَةً مِنَ اللهِ. إذْ سَيَعنِي هَذا أنَّ اللهَ سَيَنصُرُنا عَلَيهِمْ.»

11 S o both of them let the Philistine garrison see them. And the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have hidden themselves.

فَأظهَرَ يُوناثانُ وَمُساعِدُهُ نَفسَيهِما لِلفِلِسْطِيِّينَ. فَقالَ الحُرّاسُ الفِلِسْطِيُّونَ: «ها هُمُ العِبرانِيُّونَ يَخرُجُونَ مِنَ الجُحُورِ الَّتِي كانُوا يَختَبِئُونَ فِيها.»

12 T he garrison men said to Jonathan and his armor-bearer, Come up to us and we will show you a thing. Jonathan said to his armor-bearer, Come up after me, for the Lord has given them into Israel’s hand.

فَنادَى الفِلِسْطِيُّونَ الَّذِينَ فِي المُعَسْكَرِ عَلَى يُوناثانَ وَمُساعِدِهِ: «اصعَدا إلَى هُنا، وَسَنُلَقِّنُكُما دَرساً.» فَقالَ يُوناثانُ لِمُساعِدِهِ: «اصعَدِ التَّلَّةَ وَرائِي. فَاللهُ يَنصُرُ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ عَلَى الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ الآنَ.»

13 T hen Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, his armor-bearer after him; and the enemy fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer killed them after him.

فَصَعِدَ يُوناثانُ التَّلَّةَ زاحِفاً عَلَى يَدَيهِ وَقَدَمَيهِ، وَمُعاوِنُهُ خَلفَهُ مُباشَرَةً. وَسَقَطَ الفِلِسْطِيُّونَ قَتلَى أمامَ يُوناثانَ، وَكانَ مُعاوِنُهُ وَراءَهُ يَقتُلُ الجَرحَى.

14 A nd that first slaughter which Jonathan and his armor-bearer made was about twenty men within about a half acre of land.

فَقَتَل يُوناثانُ وَمُعاوِنُهُ عِشرِينَ فِلِسْطِيّاً فِي الهُجُومِ الأوَّلِ، فِي أرْضٍ لا تَزِيدُ مَساحَتُها عَنْ نِصفِ فَدّانٍ.

15 A nd there was trembling and panic in the camp, in the field, and among all the men; the garrison, and even the raiders trembled; the earth quaked, and it became a terror from God.

فَذُعِرَ كُلُّ الجُنُودِ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ الَّذِينَ فِي الحَقلِ، وَالَّذِينَ فِي المُعَسْكَرِ. ذُعِرَ حَتَّى أكثَرُ الجُنُودِ بَسالَةً. وَبَدَأتِ الأرْضُ تَهتَزُّ، مِمّا زادَ ذُعرَ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ.

16 S aul’s watchmen in Gibeah of Benjamin looked, and behold, the multitude melted away and went hither and thither.

وَرَأى رُقَباءُ شاوُلَ فِي جِبعَةَ فِي أرْضِ بَنْيامِيْنَ الجُنُودَ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ وَهُمْ يَفِرُّونَ فِي اتِّجاهاتٍ مُختَلِفَةٍ.

17 T hen Saul said to the men with him, Number and see who is gone from us. When they numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armor-bearer were missing.

فَقالَ شاوُلُ لِلجَيشِ الَّذِي مَعَهُ: «أحصُوا الجَيشَ. أُرِيدُ أنْ أعرِفَ مَنْ تَغَيَّبَ.» فَلَمّا أحصُوا الرِّجالَ، اكْتَشَفُوا أنَّ يُوناثانَ وَمُعاوِنَهُ مُتَغَيِّبانِ.

18 S aul said to Ahijah, Bring here the ark of God—for at that time the ark of God was with the children of Israel.

فَقالَ شاوُلُ لِأبِيّا: «أحْضِرْ صُنْدُوقَ اللهِ.» فَفِي ذَلِكَ الوَقتِ، كانَ صُنْدُوقُ اللهِ مَعَ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ.

19 W hile Saul talked to the priest, the tumult in the Philistine camp kept increasing. Then Saul said to the priest, Withdraw your hand.

وَبَينَما شاوُلُ يُكَلِّمُ الكاهِنَ أبِيّا، ازْدادَ الضَّجِيجُ وَالفَوضَى فِي المُعَسكَرِ الفِلِسْطِيِّ أكثَرَ فَأكثَرَ. فَنَفِدَ صَبْرُ شاوُلَ. وَقالَ لِلْكاهِنِ أبِيّا: «كَفَى. أنزِلْ يَدَكَ وَكُفَّ عَنِ الصَّلاةِ.»

20 T hen Saul and all the people with him rallied and went into the battle, and behold, every sword was against his fellow in wild confusion.

وَحَشَدَ شاوُلُ جَيشَهُ وَذَهَبَ إلَى المَعرَكَةِ. فَكانَ الفِلِسْطِيُّونَ فِي فَوضَى وَارتِباكٍ شَدِيدَينِ، حَتَّى صارَ يُقاتِلُ بَعضُهُمْ بَعضاً بِسُيُوفِهِمْ.

21 M oreover, the Hebrews who were with the Philistines before that time, who went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

وَكانَ هُناكَ عِبرانِيُّونَ فِي مُعَسكَرِ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ مِمَّنْ سَبَقَ أنْ خَدَمُوا الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ. فانضَمَّ هَؤُلاءِ العِبرانِيُّونَ إلَى بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ مَعَ شاوُلَ وَيُوناثانَ.

22 L ikewise, all the men of Israel who had hid themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, they also went after them in hot pursuit in the battle.

وَسَمِعَ كُلُّ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ الَّذِينَ كانُوا مُختَبِئِينَ فِي المِنطَقَةِ الجَبَلِيَّةِ مِنْ أفْرايِمَ الجُنُودَ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ وَهُمْ يَفِرُّونَ. فانضَمُّوا إلَى جَيشِهِمْ فِي المَعرَكَةِ، وَراحُوا يُطارِدُونَ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ.

23 S o the Lord delivered Israel that day, and the battle passed beyond Beth-aven.

فَخَلَّصَ اللهُ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ فِي ذَلِكَ اليَومِ. وَامتَدَّتِ المَعْرَكَةُ إلَى ما بَعْدَ بَيْتِ آوِنَ وَمِنطَقَةِ أفرايِمَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ. وَكانَ عَدَدُ جَيشِ شاوُلَ كُلِّهِ يَصِلُ إلَى عَشْرَةِ آلافِ رَجُلٍ. شاوُلُ يَرتَكِبُ خَطِيَّةً أُخْرَى

24 B ut the men of Israel were distressed that day, for Saul had caused them to take an oath, saying, Cursed be the man who eats any food before evening and until I have taken vengeance on my enemies. So none of the men tasted any food.

لَكِنَّ شاوُلِ ارتَكَبَ خَطَأً كَبِيراً فِي ذَلِكَ اليَومِ، فَقَدْ كانَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ مُنهَكِينَ وَجائِعِينَ بِسَبَبِ قَسَمٍ أقسَمَهُ شاوُلُ. إذْ قالَ: «إنْ أكَلَ أيُّ رَجُلٍ طَعاماً قَبلَ حُلُولِ المَساءِ وَقَبلَ أنْ أقضِيَ عَلَى أعدائِي، فَسَيُقتلُ.» فَلَمْ يَأكُلْ أيُّ واحِدٍ مِنْ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ طَعاماً.

25 A nd all the people of the land came to a wood, and there was honey on the ground.

وَدَخَلَ الشَّعبُ إلَى الأحْراشِ، فَرَأَوْا عَسَلاً عَلَى وَجْهِ الأرْضِ.

26 W hen the men entered the wood, behold, the honey was dripping, but no man tasted it, for the men feared the oath.

دَخَلُوا وَرَأَوْا العَسَلَ يَقْطُرُ، لَكِنْ لَمْ يَذُقْ أحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ شَيئاً، خَوْفاَ مِنْ قَسَمِ شاوُلَ.

27 B ut Jonathan had not heard when his father charged the people with the oath. So he dipped the end of the rod in his hand into a honeycomb and put it to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.

لَكِنَّ يُوناثانَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَعرِفُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ القَسَمِ. وَلَمْ يَسْمَعْ أباهُ وَهُوَ يُجبِرُ الشَّعبَ عَلَى أنْ يُقسِمُوا. وَكانَتْ مَعَهُ عَصاً فِي يَدِهِ، فَغَمَسَ طَرَفَها فِي العَسَلِ وَأخَذَ مِنَ العَسَلِ. وَأكَلَ العَسَلَ، فَانْتَعَشَ.

28 T hen one of the men told him, Your father strictly charged the men with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man who eats any food today. And the people were exhausted and faint.

فَقالَ أحَدُ الجُنُودِ لِيُوناثانَ: «أجبَرَنا أبُوكَ أنْ نُقسِمَ قَسَماً، وَقالَ مَلْعُونٌ كُلُّ مَنْ يَأكُلُ اليَومَ طَعاماً. فَلَمْ يَذُقِ الرِّجالُ أيَّ طَعامٍ. وَلِهَذا هُمْ مُنْهَكُونَ.»

29 T hen Jonathan said, My father has troubled the land. See how my eyes have brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.

فَقالَ يُوناثانُ: «لَقَدْ جَلَبَ أبِي مَتاعِبَ كَثِيرَةً عَلَى هَذِهِ الأرْضِ. فانْظُرْ كَيفَ انتَعَشْتُ بَعْدَ أنْ تَذَوَّقتُ قَلِيلاً مِنَ العَسَلِ.

30 H ow much better if the men had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found! For now the slaughter of the Philistines has not been great.

كانَ مِنَ الأفْضَلِ لَوْ أنَّ الرِّجالَ أكَلُوا الطَّعامَ الَّذِي استَولُوا عَلَيهِ مِنْ أعدائِهِمْ. فَلَو فَعَلُوا، لَقَتَلُوا عَدداً أكبَرَ مِنَ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ.»

31 T hey smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. And the people were very faint.

فِي ذَلِكَ اليَومِ، هَزَمَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ. وَحارَبُوهُمْ مِنْ مِخماسَ وَأيَّلُونَ. وَأَنْهَكَ الجُوعُ الشَّعبَ إنْهاكاً شَديداً.

32 t he men flew upon the spoil. They took sheep, oxen, and calves, slew them on the ground, and ate them with the blood.

وَكانُوا قَدْ أخَذُوا غَنَماً وَأبقاراً وَعُجُولاً مِنَ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ. فاشتَدَّ بِهِمِ الجُوعُ، فَذَبَحُوا المَواشِيَ عَلَى الأرْضِ وَأكَلُوها وَدَمُها ما يَزالُ فِيها.

33 T hen Saul was told, Behold, the men are sinning against the Lord by eating with the blood. And he said, You have transgressed; roll a great stone to me here.

فَقالَ أحَدُهُمْ لِشاوُلَ: «ها هُمُ الرِّجالُ يُخطِئُونَ إلَى اللهِ وَيَأكُلُونَ لَحماً فِيهِ دَمُهُ.» فَقالَ شاوُلُ: «لَقَدْ أخطَأْتُمْ. فَدَحرِجُوا الآنَ صَخرَةً هُنا.»

34 S aul said, Disperse yourselves among the people and tell them, Bring me every man his ox or his sheep, and butcher them here and eat; and sin not against the Lord by eating the blood. So all the men brought each one his ox that night and butchered it there.

ثُمَّ قالَ شاوُلُ: «اذْهَبُوا إلَى الرِّجالِ وَمُرُوا كُلَّ واحِدٍ مِنهُمْ أنْ يُحضِرَ ثَورَهُ وَخَرُوفَهُ إلَيَّ. وَبَعدَ ذَلِكَ لِيَذْبَحِ الرِّجالُ ثِيرانَهُمْ وَغَنَمَهُمْ هُنا، لا تُخطِئُوا إلَى اللهِ بِأنْ تَأْكُلُوا لَحماً فِيهِ دَمُهُ.» فَأحضَرُوا كُلُّهُمْ فِي تِلكَ اللَّيلَةِ مَواشِيَهُمْ وَذَبَحُوها هُناك.

35 A nd Saul built an altar to the Lord; it was the first altar he built to the Lord.

ثُمَّ بَنَى شاوُلُ مَذبَحاً للهِ. وَقَدْ بَدَأ هُوَ نَفسُهُ العَمَلَ عَلَى بِناءِ المَذبَحِ للهِ.

36 T hen Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night and seize and plunder them until daylight, and let us not leave a man of them. They said, Do whatever seems good to you. Then the priest said, Let us draw near here to God.

وَقالَ شاوُلُ: «لِنُهاجِمِ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ اللَّيلَةَ، فَنَأخُذَ كُلَّ شَيءٍ مِنهُمْ وَنَفْنِيهِمْ تَماماً.» فَقالَ الجَيشُ: «افعَلْ ما تَراهُ الأفضَلَ.» لَكِنَّ الكاهِنَ قالَ:

37 A nd Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You deliver them into the hand of Israel? But He did not answer him that day.

«لِنَسألِ اللهَ.» فَسَألَ شاوُلُ اللهَ: «هَلْ أُطارِدُ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ؟ وَهَلْ سَتَنصُرُنا عَلَيهِمْ؟» لَكِنَّ اللهَ لَمْ يُجِبْ شاوُلَ فِي ذَلِكَ اليَومِ.

38 T hen Saul said, Draw near, all the chiefs of the people, and let us see how this sin arose today.

فَقالَ شاوُلُ: «اجمَعُوا لِيَ القادةَ! أُرِيدُ أنْ أعرِفَ مَنِ الَّذِي ارتَكَبَ هَذِهِ الخَطِيَّةَ اليَومَ.

39 F or as the Lord lives, Who delivers Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But not a man among all the people answered him.

فَأُقْسِمُ بِاللهِ الحَيِّ الَّذِي يُخَلِّصُ إسْرائِيلَ، أنَّ الفاعِلَ سَيَمُوتُ، حَتَّى لَوْ كانَ ابنِي يُوناثانَ.» فَلَمْ يَنْطِقْ أحَدٌ مِنَ الشَّعبِ بِكَلِمَةٍ.

40 T hen he said to all Israel, You be on one side; and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. The people said to Saul, Do what seems good to you.

فَقالَ شاوُلُ لِكُلِّ جَيشِ إسْرائِيلَ: «أنتُمْ تَقِفُونَ عَلَى هَذا الجانِبِ. وَأنا وَابنِي يُوناثانُ نَقِفُ عَلَى الجانِبِ الآخَرِ.» فَقالَ الجُنُودُ: «كَما تُرِيدُ يا سَيِّدِي.»

41 T herefore Saul said to the Lord, the God of Israel, Give a perfect lot and show the right. And Saul and Jonathan were taken, but the other men went free.

ثُمَّ صَلَّى شاوُلُ: «يا اللهُ ، يا إلَهَ إسْرائِيلَ، لِماذا لَمْ تُجِبنِي أنا عَبدَكَ اليَومَ؟ إنْ كُنتُ أخطَأْتُ أنا أوِ ابنِي، فَأظْهِرِ اليُورِيمَ فِي القُرْعَةِ، يا اللهُ ، يا إلَهَ إسْرائِيلَ. وَإنْ كانَ شَعبُكَ هُمُ الَّذِينَ أخطَأُوا، فَأظْهِرِ التَّمِيمَ.» فَأشارَ اللهُ بِالقُرْعَةِ إلَى شاوُلَ وَيُوناثانَ، وَبَرَّأ الشَّعبَ.

42 S aul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

فَقالَ شاوُلُ: «أَلْقِ القُرعَةَ لِنَتَبَيَّنَ مَنْ هُوَ المُذنِبُ، أنا أمِ ابْنِي.» فَوَقَعَتِ القُرعَةُ عَلَى يُوناثانَ.

43 S aul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan said, I tasted a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand. And behold, I must die.

فقالَ شاوُل لِيُوناثانَ: «أخْبِرْنِي ما الذي فَعَلْتَهُ.» فَقالَ يُوناثانُ لِشاوُلَ: «تَذَوَّقْتُ قَلِيلاً مِنَ العَسَلِ بِطَرَفِ عَصايَ. فَهَلْ أمُوتُ مِنْ أجلِ هَذا الأمْرِ التّافِهِ؟»

44 S aul answered, May God do so, and more also, for you shall surely die, Jonathan.

فَقالَ شاوُلُ: «قَدْ أقسَمْتُ، وَسَيُعاقِبَنِي إذا لَمْ أفِ بِقَسَمِي. يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَمُوتَ يُوناثانُ.»

45 B ut the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan, who has wrought this great deliverance to Israel, die? God forbid! As the Lord lives, there shall not one hair of his head perish, for he has wrought this great deliverance with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

لَكِنَّ الجُنُودَ قالُوا لِشاوُلَ: «الفَضلُ فِي انتِصارِ إسْرائِيلَ العَظِيمِ اليَومَ هُوَ لِيُوناثانَ. فَهَلْ يَسْتَحِقُّ مِثلُهُ المَوتَ؟ لا يَكُونُ هَذا! نُقسِمُ بِاللهِ الحَيِّ، لَنْ تَسقُطَ شَعرَةٌ واحِدَةٌ مِنْ رَأسِ يُوناثانَ! فَقَدْ أعانَهُ اللهُ عَلَى الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ اليَومَ.» فَأنقَذَ الشَّعبُ يُوناثانَ. فَلَمْ يُقتَلْ.

46 T hen Saul ceased pursuing the Philistines, and they went to their own place.

وَتَوَقَّفَ شاوُلُ عَنْ مُطارَدَةِ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ. فَرَجِعَ الفِلِسْطِيُّونَ إلَى مَكانِهِمْ. شاوُلُ يُحارِبُ أعداءَ إسْرائِيل

47 W hen Saul took over the kingdom of Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side: Moab, the Ammonites, Edom, the kings of Zobah, and the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he made it worse for them.

وَأكمَلَ شاوُلُ سَيطَرَتَهُ عَلَى كُلِّ إسْرائِيلَ وَحارَبَ كُلَّ أعدائِها المُحِيطِينَ بِها. فَحارَبَ شاوُلُ المُوآبِيِّينَ وَالعَمُّونِيِّينَ وَالأدُومِيِّينَ، وَمَلِكَ صُوبَةَ، وَالفِلِسْطِيِّينَ. وَانْتَصَرَ حَيثُما ذَهَبَ.

48 H e did valiantly and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of those who plundered them.

كانَ شاوُلُ شُجاعاً جِدّاً. فَخَلَّصَ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ مِنْ جَمِيعِ أعْدائِهِمِ الَّذِينَ حاوَلُوا أنْ يَنهَبُوها. وَهَزَمَ شاوُلُ حَتَّى عَمالِيقَ.

49 N ow Saul’s sons were Jonathan, Ishvi, and Malchi-shua; and the names of his two daughters were, of the firstborn, Merab; and of the younger, Michal.

وَكانَ لِشاوُلَ أولادٌ هُمْ يُوناثانُ وَيَشْوِي وَمَلْكِيشُوعُ. وَاسْمُ ابنَتِهِ البِكرِ مِيرَبُ، وَاسْمُ ابنَتِهِ الأصغَرِ مِيكالُ.

50 T he name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam daughter of Ahimaaz. The commander of his army was Abner son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.

وَاسْمُ زَوجَتِهِ أخِينُوعَمُ بِنتُ أخِيمَعَصَ. وَاسْمُ قائِدِ جَيشِهِ أبْنَيْرُ بْنُ نَيْرَ عَمِّ شاوُلَ.

51 K ish the father of Saul and Ner the father of Abner were sons of Abiel.

أمّا قَيْسٌ أبُو شاوُلَ وَنَيْرُ أبُو أبْنَيْرَ فَهُما ابْنِي أبِيئِيلَ.

52 T here was severe war against the Philistines all the days of Saul, and whenever Saul saw any mighty or courageous man, he attached him to himself.

كانَ شاوُلُ شُجاعاً طَوالَ حَياتِهِ. كانَتِ الحَرْبُ ضِدَّ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ شَدِيدَةً. وَكُلَّما رَأى شاوُلُ رَجُلاً قَوِيّاً أوْ شُجاعاً، ضَمَّهُ إلَى جَيشِهِ.
