1 M oreover, Ahithophel said to Absalom, Let me choose 12, 000 men and I will set out and pursue David this night.

كَذَلِكَ قالَ أخِيتُوفَلُ لأبشالومَ: «دعْني الآنَ أخْتارُ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ ألفَ رَجُلٍ، فأُطاردَ داوُدَ اللَّيلَةَ.

2 I will come upon him while he is exhausted and weak, and cause him to panic; all the people with him will flee. Then I will strike down the king alone.

سَأقبِضُ عليهِ بينما هوَ متعبٌ وضعيفٌ. سَأُخيفُهُ، فيهرُبَ شَعبُهُ كُلُّهُ. لكنَّني سَأقتلُ المَلِكَ داوُدَ وَحْدَهُ.

3 I will bring back all the people to you. the man whom you seek is the assurance that all will return; and all the people will be at peace.

ثم سأَزُفُّ الشَّعبَ كُلَّهُ إليكَ كَعَرُوسٍ تُزَفُّ إلَى عَرُوسِها. إنْ ماتَ داوُدُ، عادَ الشَّعبُ كلُّهُ بِسَلامٍ.»

4 A nd what he said pleased Absalom well and all the elders of Israel.

فَاستَحَسَنَ أبشالُومُ وَقادَةُ إسْرائِيل كُلُّهُمْ هَذِهِ المَشُورَةَ.

5 A bsalom said, Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear what he says.

لَكِنَّهُ قالَ: «استَدْعُوا الآنَ حُوشايَ الأرْكِيَّ. أُريدُ أنْ أسْمَعَ ما يَقُولُهُ هُوَ أيضاً.» نَصيحَةُ حُوشاي

6 W hen Hushai came, Absalom said to him, Ahithophel has counseled thus. Shall we do what he says? If not, speak up.

فَجاءَ حُوشايُ إلَى أبْشالومَ، فقالَ لهُ أبْشالومُ: «هَذِهِ هِيَ مَشُورَةُ أخِيتُوفَلُ. فَهَلْ يَجْدُرُ بنا العَمَلُ بِها؟ فإنْ لمْ يَكُنْ كَذَلِكَ، أخبِرْنا.»

7 A nd Hushai said to Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel has given is not good at this time.

فَقالَ حُوشايُ لأبْشالومَ: «مَشُورَةُ أخِيتُوفَلَ لَيسَتْ حَسَنَةً هَذِهِ المَرَّةَ.»

8 F or, said Hushai, you know your father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are embittered and enraged like a bear robbed of her whelps in the field. And your father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

وَأضافَ: «أنتَ تَعلَمُ أنَّ وَالِدَكَ وَرِجالَهُ أقوياءَ. هُمْ بِخُطورَةِ دُبّةٍ بَرِّيّةٍ أُخِذَتْ مِنْها صِغارَها. وَالِدُكَ مُحارِبٌ مُحْتَرِفٌ، وَلَنْ يَبْقى في اللّيلِ مَعَ الشَّعبِ.

9 B ehold, he is hidden even now in some pit or other place; and when some of them are overthrown at the first, whoever hears it will say, There is a slaughter among the followers of Absalom.

وعَلَى الأرْجَحِ هو الآن مختبئٌ في مَغارَةٍ أوْ مَكانٍ آخَرَ. فإنْ هاجَمَ وَالِدُكَ رجالَكَ أوَّلاً، سَيَسْمَعُ الشَّعبُ بِالأخْبارِ ويقول: ‹أتْباعُ أبشالوم يخسَرُون!›

10 A nd even he who is brave, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt, for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man and that those who are with him are brave men.

حِينَئِذٍ، حَتَّى الرَّجُلُ الشُّجاعُ كَالأسَدِ سَيَخافُ، لأنَّ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ كُلَّهُم يَعْرِفُونَ أنَّ وَالِدَكَ مُحارِبٌ قَوِيٌّ وَأنَّ رِجالَهُ شُجعانٌ وَأقْوِياءُ.

11 T herefore I counsel that all Israel be gathered to you, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude, and that you go to battle in your own person.

«فإلَيكَ ما اقترِحُ: اجمَعْ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ كُلَّهُم، مِنْ دانَ إلَى بِئرِ سَبْعَ، فَيَكثُرَ النّاسُ ويُصْبِحُونَ كَالرِّمالِ عند شاطئِ البَحْرِ. حينَها عَلَيكَ أنْ تَذْهَبَ بِنَفْسِكَ إلَى المَعْرَكَةِ.

12 S o shall we come upon some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew settles on the ground; and of him and of all the men with him there shall not be left so much as one.

سَنَقْبِضُ عَلَى داوُدَ في المَكانِ الذي يَخْتَبِئُ فيهِ، سَنُهاجِمُهُ ومَعَنا جُنودٌ كُثُرُ، سنكونُ كما النَّدَى الكثيرُ الذي غَطَّى الأرْضَ. سَتَقْتُلُ داوُدَ ورِجالَهُ كُلَّهُمْ وَلَنْ يَبقَى رَجُلٌ حيًّا.

13 I f he withdraws into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will drag it into the ravine until not one pebble is left there.

أمّا إذا هَرَبَ داوُدُ إلَى مَدِينَةٍ ما، سَيُحضِرُ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ كُلُّهُمُ الحِبالَ إلَى تِلْكَ المَدينةِ، وَسَنجُرُّ جُدرانَها إلَى الوادي، فلا يَبْقَى فِيها حَجَرٌ واحِدٌ.»

14 A bsalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than that of Ahithophel. For the Lord had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom.

فقالَ أبْشالُومُ وبَنُو إسْرائِيلَ كُلُّهُم: «نَصيحَةُ حُوشايَ الأرْكِيَّ أفْضَلُ مِنْ نَصيحَةِ أخِيتُوفَلَ.» قالوا هذا لأنَّها كانَتْ خُطَّةُ اللهِ. كانَ اللهُ قَدْ خَطَّطَ ليَجْعَلَ نَصيحَةَ أخِيتُوفَلَ بِلا منفَعَةٍ. هَكَذا كانَ اللهُ لِيُعاقِبَ أبشالوم. حوشاي يُحَذَّرُ داوُد

15 T hen said Hushai to Zadok and Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel, and thus and thus have I counseled.

وَتَكَلَّمَ حُوشايُ للكاهِنَينِ صادُوقَ وَأبِياثارَ، فَقالَ لَهُما ما اقْتَرَحَهُ أخِيتُوفَلُ عَلَى أبشالومَ وَقادَةِ إسْرائِيلَ، وَما اقْتَرَحَهُ هُوَ.

16 N ow send quickly and tell David, Lodge not this night at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over, lest the king be swallowed up and all the people with him.

وَقالَ لَهُما: «أسْرِعا وَأرْسِلا بِرِسالَةٍ إلَى داوُدَ. قولا لَهُ أنْ لا يَبْقَى اللَّيلَةَ قَريباً مِنْ مَعابِرِ النَّهْرِ حَيْثُ يَصِلُ النَّاسُ إلَيْهِ فِي الصَّحْراءِ، بَلْ لِيَعْبُرَ هُوَ النَّهْرَ، لِئَلّا يَقَعَ المَلِكُ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ فِي الفَخِّ.»

17 N ow Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed at En-rogel, for they must not be seen coming into the city. But a maidservant went and told them, and they went and told King David.

فَانْتَظَرَ يُوناثانُ وَأخِيمَعَصُ، ابْنا الكاهِنَيْنِ، في عَيْنِ رُوجَل لأنّهما لَمْ يَكُونا يُريدانِ أنْ يُشاهَدا داخِلَ المدينَةِ. فَخَرَجَتْ إلَيهما خادِمَةٌ وَأعْطَتْهُما الرِّسالَةَ. ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ يُوناثانُ وَأخِيمَعَصُ وَأخْبَرا المَلِكَ داوُدَ بِتِلْكَ الأُمورِ.

18 B ut a lad saw them and told Absalom; but they left quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, and they went down into it.

لَكِنَّ صَبِيّاً رَآهُما، فَذَهَبَ يُخْبِرُ أبْشالُومَ. فَهَرَبَ يُوناثانُ وَأخِيمَعَصُ ووصلا إلَى مَنْزِلِ رَجُلٍ في بَحُورِيمَ وَكانَ في فَناءِ مَنْزِلِهِ بِئْرٌ فَنَزَلا إلَى داخِلِها.

19 A nd the woman spread a covering over the well’s mouth and spread ground corn on it; and the thing was not discovered.

وفرشَتْ زَوْجَةُ الرجلِ فوقَ البئرِ غطاءً، ثمَّ كَسَتْهُ بِالحُبوبِ، حَتَّى بدا كَما لَوْ كانَ كَوْمَةً مِنَ الحُبُوبِ، فَما كانَ مُمْكِناً أنْ يَرَى أحَدٌ يُوناثانَ وَأخِيمَعَصَ.

20 F or when Absalom’s servants came to the woman at the house, they said, Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said to them, They went over the brook of water. When they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

ثُمَّ جاءَ خُدّامُ أبشالُومَ إلَى المَرْأةِ في المَنْزِلِ وَسَألُوها: «أينَ هُما يُوناثان وَأخِيمَعَصُ؟» فقالَتْ لَهُمُ المَرأةُ: «سَبَقَ أنْ عَبَرا بِركَةَ المِياهِ.» ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ الخُدّامُ بَحْثاً عَنْ يُوناثانَ وَأخِيمَعَصَ لكِنَّهُم لَمْ يَجِدُوهُما فَعادُوا إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ.

21 A fter they had departed, the boys came up out of the well and went and told King David, and said, Arise and pass quickly over the river Jordan; for thus and so has Ahithophel counseled against you.

وَبعْدَ أنْ غادَرَ خُدّامُ أبْشالُومَ، خَرَجَ يُوناثانُ وَأخِيمَعَصُ مِنَ البئرِ، وَذَهَبا يُخْبِرانِ المَلِكَ داوُدَ. فَقالا لَهُ: «أسْرِعْ وَاعْبُرِ النهرَ، لأنَّ أخِيتُوفَلَ يُخَطِّطُ لِعَمَلِ هذه الأشياءِ ضِدَّكَ.»

22 D avid arose and all the people with him and passed over the Jordan. By daybreak, not one was left who had not crossed.

وَعَبَرَ داوُدُ وَجَميعُ الَّذِينَ مَعَهُ نَهرَ الأُردُنِّ، عَبَرُوا جَميعاً قَبلَ شُرُوقِ الشَّمْسِ وَلَمْ يَتَخَلَّفْ مِنهُمْ أحَدٌ. أخِيتُوفَلُ يقتُلُ نفسَه

23 B ut when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, went home to his city, put his household in order, and hanged himself and died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

وَرَأى أخِيتُوفَلُ أنَّ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ لَمْ يَقْبَلُوا بِنَصِيحَتِهِ، فَوَضَعَ سِرْجاً عَلَى حِمارِهِ وَعادَ إلَى مَدينَتِهِ الأُمِّ. وَهُناكَ نَظَّمَ أُمُورَ عائِلتِهِ ثُمَّ شَنَقَ نَفْسَهُ. وَبَعْدَ مَوتِهِ، دَفَنَهُ الشَّعبُ فِي مقبرَةِ وَالِدِهِ. أبشالوم يَعْبُرُ نَهْرَ الأردن

24 T hen David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

وَوَصَلَ داوُدُ إلَى مَحْنايِمَ. فعبَرَ أبْشالومُ وَبَنُو إسْرائِيلَ الذِينَ كانُوا مَعَهُ نَهْرَ الأُرْدُنِّ.

25 A bsalom made Amasa captain of the army instead of Joab. Amasa was the son of an named Ithra, who married Abigail daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.

وَكانَ أبْشالُومُ قَدْ جَعَلَ عَماسا القائِدَ الجَديدَ لِلجَيْشِ، فأخَذَ مَكانَ يُوآبَ. كانَ عَماسا بنَ يِتْرا الإسْماعِيلِيُّ ووالِدتُهُ أبِيجائيلُ ابنةُ ناحاشَ أُخْتُ صُرُوِيَّةَ.

26 S o Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.

وَعَسْكَرَ أبْشالومُ وَبَنُو إسْرائِيلَ في أرْضِ جِلعادَ. شوبي وماكير وبَرَزَلّاي

27 W hen David came to Mahanaim, Shobi son of Nahash of Rabbah of the Ammonites, and Machir son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim

وَوَصَلَ داوُدُ إلَى مَحْنايِمَ. وكانَ هُناكَ شُوبِيُ بْنُ ناحاشَ مِنْ رَبَّةَ المَدينَةِ العمَّونِيَّةِ، وَماكِيرُ بنُ عَمِّيئِيلَ مِنْ لُودَبارَ، وَبَرْزَلّايُ مِنْ رُوجَلِيمَ فِي جِلعادَ.

28 B rought beds, basins, earthen vessels, wheat, barley, meal, parched grain, beans, lentils, parched,

فَقَدَّمُوا الأفْرِشَةَ وَالآنِيَةَ وَالأطْباقَ، وَالقَمْحَ وَالشَّعِيرَ وَالطَّحِينَ وَالفَرِيكَ وَالفُولَ وَالعَدَسَ وَالحُمُّصَ المَشْوِيَّ

29 H oney, curds, sheep, and cheese of cows for David and the people with him to eat; for they said, The people are hungry, weary, and thirsty in the wilderness.

وَالعَسَلَ وَالزُّبْدَةَ وَالغَنَمَ وَالجُبْنَةَ المَصْنوعَةَ مِنْ حَليبِ البقرِ. فَقَدْ رَأَوْا أنَّ النّاسَ مُتْعَبُونَ وَجائِعونَ وَعِطاشاً.
