1 N ow while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there gathered to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men, women, and children; for the people wept bitterly.

Когда молился Ездра и исповедывался, плача и повергаясь пред домом Божиим, стеклось к нему весьма большое собрание Израильтян, мужчин и женщин и детей, потому что и народ много плакал.

2 A nd Shecaniah son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, said to Ezra: We have broken faith and dealt treacherously against our God and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land; yet now there is still hope for Israel in spite of this thing.

И отвечал Шехания, сын Иехиила из сыновей Еламовых, и сказал Ездре: мы сделали преступление пред Богом нашим, что взяли жен иноплеменных из народов земли, но есть еще надежда для Израиля в этом деле;

3 T herefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the foreign wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God; and let it be done according to the Law.

заключим теперь завет с Богом нашим, что, по совету господина моего и благоговеющих пред заповедями Бога нашего, мы отпустим всех жен и, рожденных ими, --и да будет по закону!

4 A rise, for it is your duty, and we are with you. Be strong and brave and do it.

Встань, потому что это твое дело, и мы с тобою: ободрись и действуй!

5 T hen Ezra arose and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel swear that they would do as had been said. So they took the oath.

И встал Ездра, и велел начальствующим над священниками, левитами и всем Израилем дать клятву, что они сделают так. И они дали клятву.

6 T hen Ezra came from before the house of God and went into the lodging place of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. There he ate no bread and drank no water, for he mourned over the returned exiles’ faithlessness.

И встал Ездра и пошел от дома Божия в жилище Иоханана, сына Елияшивова, и пришел туда. Хлеба он не ел и воды не пил, потому что плакал о преступлении переселенцев.

7 A nd proclamation was made throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the returned exiles, that they should assemble in Jerusalem,

И объявили в Иудее и в Иерусалиме всем в плену, чтоб они собрались в Иерусалим;

8 A nd that whoever did not come within three days, by order of the officials and the elders, all his property should be forfeited and he himself banned from the assembly of the exiles.

а кто не придет чрез три дня, на все имение того, по определению начальствующих и старейшин, будет положено заклятие, и сам он будет отлучен от общества переселенцев.

9 T hen all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered at Jerusalem within three days. It was the twentieth day of the ninth month, and all the people sat in the open space before the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of the heavy rain.

И собрались все жители Иудеи и земли Вениаминовой в Иерусалим в три дня. Это в девятом месяце, в двадцатый день месяца. И сидел весь народ на площади у дома Божия, дрожа как по этому делу, так и от дождей.

10 A nd Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, You have acted wickedly and broken faith and have married foreign (heathen) women, increasing the guilt of Israel.

И встал Ездра священник и сказал им: вы сделали преступление, взяв себе жен иноплеменных, и тем увеличили вину Израиля.

11 S o now make confession and give thanks to the Lord, the God of your fathers, and do His will. Separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from foreign (heathen) wives.

Итак покайтесь пред Господом Богом отцов ваших, и исполните волю Его, и отлучите себя от народов земли и от жен иноплеменных.

12 T hen all the assembly answered with a loud voice, As you have said, so must we do.

И отвечало все собрание, и сказало громким голосом: как ты сказал, так и сделаем.

13 B ut the people are many and it is a time of heavy rain; we cannot stand outside. Nor can this work be done in a day or two, for we have greatly transgressed in this matter.

Однако же народ многочислен и время дождливое, и нет возможности стоять на улице. Да и это дело не одного дня и не двух, потому что мы много в этом деле погрешили.

14 L et our officials stand for the whole assembly; let all in our cities who have foreign wives come by appointment, and with each group the elders of that city and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God over this matter is turned away from us.

Пусть наши начальствующие заступят место всего общества, и все в городах наших, которые взяли жен иноплеменных, пусть приходят сюда в назначенные времена и с ними старейшины каждого города и судьи его, доколе не отвратится от нас пылающий гнев Бога нашего за это дело.

15 O nly Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah opposed this, and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite supported them.

Тогда Ионафан, сын Асаила, и Яхзеия, сын Фиквы, стали над этим делом, и Мешуллам и Шавфай левит были помощниками им.

16 T hen the returned exiles did so. Ezra the priest and certain heads of fathers’ houses were selected, according to their fathers’ houses, each of them by name; and they sat down on the first day of the tenth month to investigate the matter.

И сделали так вышедшие из плена. И отделены Ездра священник, главы поколений, от каждого поколения их, и все они поименно. И сделали они заседание в первый день десятого месяца, для исследования сего дела;

17 A nd by the first day of the first month they had come to the end of the cases of the men married to foreign wives.

и окончили о всех, которые взяли жен иноплеменных, к первому дню первого месяца.

18 O f the sons of the priests who had married non-Jewish women were found: of the sons of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brethren: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.

И нашлись из сыновей священнических, которые взяли жен иноплеменных, --из сыновей Иисуса, сына Иоседекова, и братьев его: Маасея, Елиезер, Иарив и Гедалия;

19 T hey solemnly vowed to put away their wives, and, being guilty, offered a ram of the flock for guilt.

и они дали руки свои, что отпустят жен своих, и повинны в жертву овна за свою вину;

20 O f the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.

и из сыновей Иммера: Хананий и Зевадия;

21 O f the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.

и из сыновей Харима: Маасея, Елия, Шемаия, Иехиил и Уззия;

22 O f the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.

и из сыновей Пашхура: Елиоенай, Маасея, Исмаил, Нафанаил, Иозавад и Эласа;

23 O f the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

и из левитов: Иозавад, Шимей и Келаия, он же Клита, Пафахия, Иуда и Елиезер;

24 O f the singers: Eliashib. Of the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.

и из певцов: Елияшив; и из привратников: Шаллум, Телем и Урий;

25 A nd of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malchijah (Hashabiah), and Benaiah.

а из Израильтян, --из сыновей Пароша: Рамаия, Иззия, Малхия, Миямин, Елеазар, Малхия и Венаия;

26 O f the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah.

и из сыновей Елама: Матфания, Захария, Иехиел, Авдий, Иремоф и Елия;

27 O f the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza.

и из сыновей Заффу: Елиоенай, Елияшив, Матфания, Иремоф, Завад и Азиса;

28 O f the sons also of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.

и из сыновей Бевая: Иоханан, Ханания, Забвай и Афлай;

29 O f the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth.

и из сыновей Вания: Мешуллам, Маллух, Адая, Иашув, Шеал и Иерамоф;

30 O f the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh.

и из сыновей Пахаф-Моава: Адна, Хелал, Венаия, Маасея, Матфания, Веселеил, Биннуй и Манассия;

31 O f the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,

и из сыновей Харима: Елиезер, Ишшия, Малхия, Шемаия, Симеон,

32 B enjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.

Вениамин, Маллух, Шемария;

33 O f the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.

и из сыновей Хашума: Мафнай, Мафафа, Завад, Елифелет, Иеремай, Манассия и Шимей;

34 O f the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel,

и из сыновей Вания: Маадай, Амрам и Уел,

35 B enaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi (Cheluhu),

Бенаия, Бидья, Келуги,

36 V aniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,

Ванея, Меремоф, Елиашив,

37 M attaniah, Mattenai, Jaasu,

Матфания, Мафнай, Иаасай,

38 B ani, Binnui, Shimei,

Ваний, Биннуй, Шимей,

39 S helemiah, Nathan, Adaiah,

Шелемия, Нафан, Адаия,

40 M achnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,

Махнадбай, Шашай, Шарай,

41 A zarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,

Азариел, Шелемиягу, Шемария,

42 S hallum, Amariah, and Joseph.

Шаллум, Амария и Иосиф;

43 O f the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Iddo (Jaddai), Joel, and Benaiah.

и из сыновей Нево: Иеиел, Матфифия, Завад, Зевина, Иаддай, Иоель и Бенаия.

44 A ll these had married foreign women, and some of the wives had borne children.

Все сии взяли жен иноплеменных, и некоторые из сих жен родили им детей.
