1 N ow the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock; and when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that indeed the region was a place for livestock,

2 t he children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the leaders of the congregation, saying,

Они пришли к Моисею, священнику Элеазару и вождям народа и сказали:

3 “ Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, and Beon,

– Города Атарот, Дивон, Иазер, Нимра, Хешбон, Елеале, Севам, Нево и Веон –

4 t he country which the Lord defeated before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.”

земля, которую Господь покорил народу Израиля, хороша для скота, а у твоих слуг есть скот.

5 T herefore they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not take us over the Jordan.”

Если мы нашли у тебя расположение, – сказали они, – пусть эта земля и достанется во владение твоим слугам. Не переводи нас через Иордан.

6 A nd Moses said to the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben: “Shall your brethren go to war while you sit here?

Моисей сказал гадитам и рувимитам: – Ваши братья пойдут на войну, а вы будете сидеть здесь?

7 N ow why will you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord has given them?

Зачем вы отбиваете у израильтян охоту перейти в землю, которую дал им Господь?

8 T hus your fathers did when I sent them away from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.

Так сделали ваши отцы, когда я посылал их из Кадеш-Барнеа осмотреть эту землю.

9 F or when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, so that they did not go into the land which the Lord had given them.

Придя в долину Эшкол и осмотрев землю, они отбили у израильтян охоту войти в землю, которую дал им Господь.

10 S o the Lord ’s anger was aroused on that day, and He swore an oath, saying,

В тот день Господь разгневался и поклялся:

11 ‘ Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and above, shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they have not wholly followed Me,

«Никто из покинувших Египет, от двадцати лет и старше, не увидит землю, которую Я клятвенно обещал Аврааму, Исааку и Иакову, потому что они не повиновались Мне от всего сердца –

12 e xcept Caleb the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the Lord.’

никто, кроме Халева, сына кенезеянина Иефоннии, и Иисуса, сына Навина, которые от всего сердца повиновались Господу».

13 S o the Lord ’s anger was aroused against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was gone.

Господь разгневался на Израиль, и заставил народ сорок лет скитаться по пустыне, пока все то поколение, которое сделало в Его глазах зло, не сгинуло.

14 A nd look! You have risen in your fathers’ place, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the Lord against Israel.

А теперь вы, отродье грешников, встали на место ваших отцов и еще сильнее разжигаете гнев Господа на Израиль!

15 F or if you turn away from following Him, He will once again leave them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all these people.”

Если вы откажетесь повиноваться Ему, Он снова оставит этот народ в пустыне, а вы будете виновниками их гибели.

16 T hen they came near to him and said: “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones,

Они подошли к нему и сказали: – Мы построим здесь загоны для скота и города для наших жен и детей,

17 b ut we ourselves will be armed, ready to go before the children of Israel until we have brought them to their place; and our little ones will dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

а потом будем готовы вооружиться и идти перед израильтянами, пока не приведем их в их надел. Тем временем, наши жены и дети будут жить в укрепленных городах, в безопасности от жителей этой земли.

18 W e will not return to our homes until every one of the children of Israel has received his inheritance.

Мы не вернемся домой, пока каждый израильтянин не получит свой надел.

19 F or we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has fallen to us on this eastern side of the Jordan.”

Мы не получим надел с ними на той стороне Иордана, потому что наш надел достался нам на этой, восточной стороне.

20 T hen Moses said to them: “If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves before the Lord for the war,

Моисей сказал им: – Если вы сделаете это, если вооружитесь, чтобы воевать для Господа,

21 a nd all your armed men cross over the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven out His enemies from before Him,

и каждый из вас, кто носит оружие, переправится перед Господом за Иордан, пока Он не прогонит Своих врагов перед Собой,

22 a nd the land is subdued before the Lord, then afterward you may return and be blameless before the Lord and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord.

то, когда земля будет покорена Господу, вы можете вернуться. Тогда вы будете свободными от обязательства Господу и Израилю, а эта земля будет вашим владением перед Господом.

23 B ut if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out.

Но если вы не сделаете этого, вы согрешите против Господа, и знайте: ваш грех вас найдет.

24 B uild cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep, and do what has proceeded out of your mouth.”

Стройте города для жен и детей и загоны для отар, но исполните, что обещали.

25 A nd the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying: “Your servants will do as my lord commands.

Гадиты и рувимиты сказали Моисею: – Мы – твои слуги. Мы сделаем, как велит наш господин.

26 O ur little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock will be there in the cities of Gilead;

Наши дети и жены, отары и весь наш скот останутся здесь, в городах Галаада.

27 b ut your servants will cross over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, just as my lord says.”

А твои слуги, все вооруженные для битвы, переправятся, чтобы воевать перед Господом, как велит наш господин.

28 S o Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel.

Тогда Моисей отдал распоряжение о них священнику Элеазару, Иисусу, сыну Навина, и главам семей израильского народа.

29 A nd Moses said to them: “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben cross over the Jordan with you, every man armed for battle before the Lord, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead as a possession.

Он сказал им: – Если гадиты и рувимиты, все вооруженные для битвы, переправятся с вами за Иордан перед Господом, то, когда земля покорится вам, отдайте им во владение землю Галаада.

30 B ut if they do not cross over armed with you, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”

А если они не переправятся с вами вооруженные, пусть они примут свой надел с вами в Ханаане.

31 T hen the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying: “As the Lord has said to your servants, so we will do.

Гадиты и рувимиты ответили: – Мы – твои слуги. Мы сделаем так, как сказал Господь.

32 W e will cross over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, but the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us on this side of the Jordan.”

Мы с оружием переправимся перед Господом в Ханаан, но пусть удел, который нам достался, останется за нами на этой стороне Иордана.

33 S o Moses gave to the children of Gad, to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with its cities within the borders, the cities of the surrounding country.

Тогда Моисей отдал гадитам, рувимитам и половине рода Манассии, сына Иосифа, царство Сигона, царя аморреев, и царство Ога, царя Башана – всю землю с ее городами и их окрестностями.

34 A nd the children of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer,

Гадиты построили Дивон, Атарот, Ароер,

35 A troth and Shophan and Jazer and Jogbehah,

Атарот-Шофан, Иазер, Иогбегу,

36 B eth Nimrah and Beth Haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep.

Бет-Нимру и Бет-Аран, города-крепости, и построили загоны.

37 A nd the children of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim,

А рувимиты отстроили Хешбон, Елеале, Кирьятаим,

38 N ebo and Baal Meon ( their names being changed) and Shibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built.

Нево и Баал-Меон (их названия были изменены), и Сивму. Они дали отстроенным городам другие имена.

39 A nd the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.

Потомки Махира, сына Манассии, пришли в Галаад, захватили его и прогнали оттуда аморреев.

40 S o Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelt in it.

Моисей отдал Галаад махиритам, потомкам Манассии, и они поселились там.

41 A lso Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its small towns, and called them Havoth Jair.

Иаир, потомок Манассии, захватил здесь несколько поселений и назвал их Хаввот-Иаир.

42 T hen Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and he called it Nobah, after his own name.

А Новах захватил Кенат с окрестными поселками и назвал его в свою честь: Новах.
