1 A nd a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi.

2 S o the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months.

Она забеременела и родила сына. Увидев, что ребенок очень хорош, она прятала его три месяца,

3 B ut when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

а когда не смогла больше прятать, взяла тростниковую корзину и покрыла ее смолой и дегтем. Она положила в нее младенца и поставила ее среди тростника на берегу Нила.

4 A nd his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

Сестра младенца встала поодаль, чтобы увидеть, что с ним случится.

5 T hen the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it.

Дочь фараона спустилась к Нилу купаться, а ее служанки ходили по берегу. Она увидела корзину среди тростника и послала за ней рабыню.

6 A nd when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

Открыв корзину, дочь фараона увидела младенца. Он плакал, и она пожалела его. – Это – один из еврейских детей, – сказала она.

7 T hen his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

Тогда сестра младенца спросила у дочери фараона: – Пойти ли мне и привести кормилицу из евреек, чтобы она вскормила для тебя младенца?

8 A nd Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the maiden went and called the child’s mother.

– Да, пойди, – ответила та. Девочка пошла и привела мать младенца.

9 T hen Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him.

Дочь фараона сказала ей: – Возьми этого младенца и вскорми его для меня, а я тебе заплачу за это. Женщина взяла младенца и вскормила его.

10 A nd the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.” Moses Flees to Midian

Когда ребенок подрос, она отвела его к дочери фараона, и та усыновила мальчика. Она назвала его Моисеем, говоря: «Я вытащила его из воды». Бегство Моисея в Мадиан

11 N ow it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren.

Однажды, когда Моисей уже вырос, он пошел к своим соплеменникам, и увидел, какую тяжелую работу они делают. Он увидел, как египтянин бьет еврея – его соплеменника.

12 S o he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

Оглянувшись вокруг и увидев, что никого нет, Моисей убил египтянина и спрятал его тело в песке.

13 A nd when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, “Why are you striking your companion?”

На следующий день он вышел и увидел двух дерущихся евреев. Он спросил обидчика: – Зачем ты бьешь своего соплеменника?

14 T hen he said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” So Moses feared and said, “Surely this thing is known!”

Тот ответил: – Кто поставил тебя начальником и судьей над нами? Не думаешь ли ты убить и меня, как убил египтянина? Моисей испугался и подумал: «Должно быть, то, что я сделал, стало известно».

15 W hen Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.

Услышав об этом, фараон хотел казнить Моисея, но Моисей убежал от него и поселился в стране мадианитян. Однажды, когда он сидел у колодца,

16 N ow the priest of Midian had seven daughters. And they came and drew water, and they filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

семь дочерей мадианского жреца пришли начерпать воды, чтобы наполнить поилки и напоить отару отца.

17 T hen the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

Но пришли пастухи и отогнали их, тогда Моисей встал, защитил дочерей жреца и напоил их овец.

18 W hen they came to Reuel their father, he said, “How is it that you have come so soon today?”

Когда девушки вернулись к своему отцу Рагуилу, тот спросил: – Почему вы сегодня так рано вернулись?

19 A nd they said, “An Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and he also drew enough water for us and watered the flock.”

Они ответили: – Какой-то египтянин защитил нас от пастухов. Он даже начерпал нам воды и напоил отару овец.

20 S o he said to his daughters, “And where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”

– Где же он? – спросил отец у дочерей. – Почему вы оставили его? Пригласите его поесть с нами.

21 T hen Moses was content to live with the man, and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses.

Моисей согласился остаться у этого человека, и тот отдал свою дочь Циппору Моисею в жены.

22 A nd she bore him a son. He called his name Gershom, for he said, “I have been a stranger in a foreign land.”

Она родила сына, и Моисей назвал его Гершом, говоря: «Я стал поселенцем в чужой земле».

23 N ow it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.

Спустя долгое время, царь Египта умер. Израильтяне стонали в рабстве и взывали о помощи. Вопль об их рабской доле дошел до Бога,

24 S o God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

и Бог, услышав их стоны, вспомнил Свой завет с Авраамом, Исааком и Иаковом.

25 A nd God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.

Бог посмотрел на израильтян и обратил внимание на их участь.
