1 А докато Израел оставаше в Ситим, народът почна да блудства с моавките;

And Israel abode in Shittim; and the people began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab:

2 з ащото те канеха народа на жертвите на боговете си и народът ядеше и се кланяше на боговете им.

for they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods; and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

3 И зраел се привърза към Ваалфегор; и Господният гняв пламна против Израел.

And Israel joined himself unto Baal-peor: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

4 Т огава Господ каза на Моисей: Хвани всички първенци на народа и ги обеси за Господа пред слънцето, за да се отвърне от Израел Господният яростен гняв.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up unto Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may turn away from Israel.

5 А Моисей нареди на Израелевите съдии: Убийте всеки подчинените си хора, които се привързаха към Ваалфегор.

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that have joined themselves unto Baal-peor.

6 И , ето, един от израелтяните дойде и доведе на братята си една мадиамка пред очите на Моисей и пред цялото общество израелтяни, когато те плачеха пред входа на шатъра за срещане.

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.

7 А Финеес, син на Елеазар, син на свещеника Аарон, като видя, стана изсред обществото, взе копие в ръката си

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand;

8 и влезе след израелтянина в спалнята, и прободе и двамата - израелтянина и жената в корема ѝ. Така язвата престана от израелтяните.

and he went after the man of Israel into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

9 А умрелите от язвата бяха двадесет и четири хиляди души.

And those that died by the plague were twenty and four thousand.

10 Т огава Господ говорѝ на Моисей:

And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

11 Ф инеес, син на Елеазар, син на свещеника Аарон, отвърна яростта Ми от израелтяните; понеже показа ревност сред тях, подобна на Моята, така че Аз не изтребих израелтяните в ревността Си.

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 З атова му кажи: Ето, Аз му давам Моя завет на мир;

Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 щ е бъде на него и на потомството му след него завет на вечно свещенство, защото беше ревностен за своя Бог и направи умилостивение за израелтяните.

and it shall be unto him, and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.

14 А името на убития израелтянин, който беше убит с мадиамката, беше Зимрий, син на Салу, първенец на един бащин дом от Симеоновите синове.

Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers' house among the Simeonites.

15 И името на убитата мадиамка беше Хазвия, дъщеря на Сура, началник на народа, от един бащин дом в Мадиам.

And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midian.

16 С лед това Господ говорѝ на Моисей:

And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

17 И змъчвайте мадиамците и ги поразете;

Vex the Midianites, and smite them;

18 з ащото те ви измъчват с коварствата, с които ви примамиха чрез Фегор и чрез сестра си Хазвия, дъщеря на един мадиамски първенец, която беше убита в деня на язвата, наложена поради Фегор.

for they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.
