1 С лед това царят на амонците Наас умря и вместо него се възцари синът му Анун.

And it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

2 Т огава Давид каза: Ще покажа благосклонност към Анун, Наасовия син, понеже баща му показа благосклонност към мен. И така, Давид прати посланици, за да го утешат за баща му. А когато Давидовите слуги дойдоха при Анун в земята на амонците, за да го утешат,

And David said, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me. So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

3 п ървенците на амонците казаха на Анун: Мислиш ли, че от почит към баща ти Давид ти е пратил утешители? Не дойдоха ли слугите му при тебе, за да разузнаят, да разорят и да съгледат земята?

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honor thy father, in that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

4 З атова Анун хвана Давидовите слуги и ги обръсна, отряза дрехите им до половина - до бедрата им, и ги отпрати.

So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

5 И някои отидоха и известиха на Давид за стореното на мъжете и той изпрати хора да ги посрещнат (понеже мъжете много се срамуваха) и да им кажат от името на царя: Останете в Йерихон, докато пораснат брадите ви, и тогава се върнете.

Then there went certain persons, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

6 А след като амонците видяха, че бяха станали омразни на Давид, Анун и амонците пратиха хиляда таланта сребро, за да си наемат колесници и конници от Месопотамия, от Сирия на Маах и от Сова.

And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Arammaacah, and out of Zobah.

7 И си наеха тридесет и две хиляди колесници също и царя на Маах с народа му, които дойдоха и разположиха стан срещу Медева. И амонците, като се събраха от градовете си, дойдоха да воюват.

So they hired them thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people, who came and encamped before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

8 К огато чу това, Давид прати Йоав и цялото множество силни мъже.

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

9 А амонците излязоха и се строиха за бой при градската порта; а царете, които дойдоха, бяха отделно на полето.

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.

10 Й оав, като видя, че се бяха строили за бой против него отпред и отзад, събра между всичките отбрани Израелеви мъже и ги опълчи против сирийците;

Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.

11 а останалия народ даде в ръката на брат си Ависей; и те се опълчиха против амонците.

And the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

12 Й оав каза: Ако сирийците надделеят над мене, тогава ти ще ми помогнеш; а ако амонците надделеят над тебе, тогава аз ще ти помогна.

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me; but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.

13 Д ерзай и нека бъдем мъжествени за народа си и за градовете на нашия Бог; а Господ нека извърши каквото Му се вижда угодно.

Be of good courage, and let us play the man for our people, and for the cities of our God: and Jehovah do that which seemeth him good.

14 И така, Йоав и народът, който беше с него, встъпиха в сражение против сирийците; и те побегнаха пред него.

So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him.

15 А когато амонците видяха, че сирийците побегнаха, тогава и те побегнаха пред брат му Ависей и влязоха в града. Тогава Йоав си дойде в Йерусалим.

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

16 А сирийците, като видяха, че бяха победени от Израел, пратиха посланици да изведат сирийците, които бяха оттатък реката Ефрат, начело със Совак, военачалника на Ададезер.

And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer at their head.

17 И когато бе известено на Давид, той събра целия Израел и като премина Йордан, дойде до тях и се опълчи против тях. И така, като се опълчи Давид на бой против сирийците, те се биха с него.

And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.

18 Н о сирийците побегнаха пред Израел; и Давид изби от сирийците мъжете на седем хиляди колесници и четиридесет хиляди пешаци; уби и военачалника Совак.

And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians the men of seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

19 С лугите на Ададезер, като видяха, че бяха победени от Израел, сключиха мир с Давид и му се подчиниха. И сирийците отказаха да помагат вече на амонците.

And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and served him: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
