1 Ч и ж мудрість не кличе, і не подає свого голосу розум?

Doesn’t wisdom cry out? Doesn’t understanding raise her voice?

2 Н а верхів'ях холмів, при дорозі та на перехрестях стоїть он вона!

On the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet, she stands.

3 П ри брамах, при вході до міста, де входиться в двері, там голосно кличе вона:

Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entry doors, she cries aloud:

4 Д о вас, мужі, я кличу, а мій голос до людських синів:

“To you men, I call! I send my voice to the sons of mankind.

5 З розумійте но, неуки, мудрість, зрозумійте ви розум, безглузді!

You simple, understand prudence. You fools, be of an understanding heart.

6 П ослухайте, я бо шляхетне кажу, і відкриття моїх губ то простота.

Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things.

7 Б о правду говорять уста мої, а лукавство гидота для губ моїх.

For my mouth speaks truth. Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 В сі слова моїх уст справедливі, нема в них крутійства й лукавства.

All the words of my mouth are in righteousness. There is nothing crooked or perverse in them.

9 У сі вони прості, хто їх розуміє, і щирі для тих, хто знаходить знання.

They are all plain to him who understands, right to those who find knowledge.

10 В ізьміть ви картання моє, а не срібло, і знання, добірніше від щирого золота:

Receive my instruction rather than silver; knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 л іпша бо мудрість за перли, і не рівняються їй всі клейноди!

For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can’t be compared to it.

12 Я , мудрість, живу разом з розумом, і знаходжу пізнання розважне.

“I, wisdom, have made prudence my dwelling. Find out knowledge and discretion.

13 С трах Господній лихе все ненавидіти: я ненавиджу пиху та гордість, і дорогу лиху та лукаві уста!

The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.

14 В мене рада й оглядність, я розум, і сила у мене.

Counsel and sound knowledge are mine. I have understanding and power.

15 М ною царюють царі, а законодавці права справедливі встановлюють.

By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

16 М ною правлять владики й вельможні, всі праведні судді.

By me princes rule; nobles, and all the righteous rulers of the earth.

17 Я кохаю всіх тих, хто кохає мене, хто ж шукає мене мене знайде!

I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me.

18 З о мною багатство та слава, тривалий маєток та правда:

With me are riches, honor, enduring wealth, and prosperity.

19 л іпший плід мій від щирого золота й золота чистого, а прибуток мій ліпший за срібло добірне!

My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold; my yield than choice silver.

20 П уттю праведною я ходжу, поміж правних стежок,

I walk in the way of righteousness, in the middle of the paths of justice;

21 щ об дати багатство в спадщину для тих, хто кохає мене, і я понаповнюю їхні скарбниці!

That I may give wealth to those who love me. I fill their treasuries.

22 Г осподь мене мав на початку Своєї дороги, перше чинів Своїх, спервовіку,

“Yahweh possessed me in the beginning of his work, before his deeds of old.

23 в ідвіку була я встановлена, від початку, від правіку землі.

I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth existed.

24 Н ароджена я, як безодень іще не було, коли не було ще джерел, водою обтяжених.

When there were no depths, I was born, when there were no springs abounding with water.

25 Н ароджена я, поки гори поставлені ще не були, давніше за пагірки,

Before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was born;

26 к оли ще землі не вчинив Він, ні піль, ні початкового пороху всесвіту.

while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the beginning of the dust of the world.

27 К оли приправляв небеса я була там, коли круга вставляв на поверхні безодні,

When he established the heavens, I was there; when he set a circle on the surface of the deep,

28 к оли хмари уміцнював Він нагорі, як джерела безодні зміцняв,

when he established the clouds above, when the springs of the deep became strong,

29 к оли клав Він для моря устава його, щоб його берегів вода не переходила, коли ставив основи землі,

when he gave to the sea its boundary, that the waters should not violate his commandment, when he marked out the foundations of the earth;

30 т о я майстром у Нього була, і була я веселощами день-у-день, радіючи перед обличчям Його кожночасно,

then I was the craftsman by his side. I was a delight day by day, always rejoicing before him,

31 р адіючи на земнім крузі Його, а забава моя із синами людськими!

Rejoicing in his whole world. My delight was with the sons of men.

32 Т епер же, послухайте, діти, мене, і блаженні, хто буде дороги мої стерегти!

“Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways.

33 Н авчання послухайте й мудрими станьте, і не відступайте від нього!

Hear instruction, and be wise. Don’t refuse it.

34 Б лаженна людина, яка мене слухає, щоб пильнувати при дверях моїх день-у-день, щоб одвірки мої берегти!

Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my door posts.

35 Х то бо знаходить мене, той знаходить життя, і одержує милість від Господа.

For whoever finds me, finds life, and will obtain favor from Yahweh.

36 А хто проти мене грішить, ограбовує душу свою; всі, хто мене ненавидить, ті смерть покохали!

But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul. All those who hate me love death.”
