1 G ive ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

Слушай, народ мой, мое поучение! Услышь мои слова!

2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

Открою уста свои в притче, произнесу загадки из древности,

3 W hich we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

которые мы слышали и узнали, которые рассказали нам наши отцы.

4 W e will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

Мы не будем скрывать их от детей; расскажем грядущему поколению о славе Господа, о Его силе и о чудесах, Им сотворенных.

5 F or he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

Он оставил свидетельство Иакову, дал Закон в Израиле, который повелел нашим отцам передавать его своим детям,

6 T hat the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

чтобы знало грядущее поколение, дети, которые еще не родились, и чтобы они в свое время передали его своим детям.

7 T hat they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

И тогда они будут возлагать свою надежду на Бога; они не станут забывать Его дел, но будут хранить Его повеления.

8 A nd might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

Они не уподобятся своим отцам, поколению упрямому и мятежному, чьи сердца не были верны Богу, чей дух не был предан Ему.

9 T he children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

Сыны Ефрема, хотя и вооруженные луками, обратились вспять в день битвы.

10 T hey kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

Не хранили они завета Божьего и отказались ходить в Его Законе.

11 A nd forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

Забыли дела Его и чудеса, которые Он им показал.

12 M arvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

Чудеса совершал Он на глазах их отцов в Египте, в окрестностях Цоана.

13 H e divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

Он разделил море и провел их через него, поставив воды стеной.

14 I n the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

Днем вел их облаком, ночью – светом огня.

15 H e clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

Он рассек скалу в пустыне и дал им пить, как будто из вод глубоких.

16 H e brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

Из камня извлек Он потоки, и воды потекли, как реки.

17 A nd they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

Но они продолжали грешить против Него и бунтовать против Всевышнего в пустыне.

18 A nd they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

Испытывали Бога в своих сердцах, требуя пищи, которая им по душе;

19 Y ea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

оскорбляли Бога говоря: «Может ли Бог накрыть стол в пустыне?

20 B ehold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

Да, Он ударил скалу, и из неe потекли воды, хлынули потоки, но может ли Он дать хлеба, может ли дать мяса Своему народу?»

21 T herefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

Услышал Господь и разгневался: Его огонь возгорелся на Иакова; вспыхнул гнев Его на Израиль,

22 B ecause they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

потому что они не верили в Бога и не уповали на Его спасение.

23 T hough he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

Но Он повелел облакам свыше и отворил ворота небесные,

24 A nd had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

и, как дождь, излил на них манну и зерно небесное дал им.

25 M an did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

Хлеб сильных ел человек; послал Он им пищи вдоволь.

26 H e caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

Он пробудил на небе ветер восточный и силой Своей навел ветер южный.

27 H e rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

Как пылью, Он осыпал их мясом и, как песком морским, пернатыми птицами;

28 A nd he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

которых разбросал посреди лагеря, около жилищ их.

29 S o they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

Они ели и пресытились, потому что Он дал им желаемое.

30 T hey were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

Но еще не успели они насытить свою жадность, еще пища была у них на устах,

31 T he wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

когда Божий гнев сошел на них, поразив самых крепких из них, молодых сыновей Израиля.

32 F or all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

Несмотря на это, они продолжали грешить и не верили Его чудесам.

33 T herefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

И завершил Он дни их в суете и годы их в ужасе.

34 W hen he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

Когда убивал их, тогда обращались к Нему и искали Его усердно.

35 A nd they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

И вспоминали, что Бог – их скала, и что Всевышний Бог – их искупитель.

36 N evertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

Все равно льстили Ему устами своими, они лгали Ему своими языками,

37 F or their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

потому что сердца их не были преданны Ему, и не были они верны Его завету.

38 B ut he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

Но Он, будучи милостивым, прощал их нечестие и не уничтожал их. Много раз отвращал Он Свой гнев и не возбуждал всей Своей ярости.

39 F or he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

Помнил Он, что они – только плоть, ветер, что уходит и не возвращается.

40 H ow oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

Сколько раз они противились Ему в пустыне и сердили Его в земле необитаемой!

41 Y ea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

Поворачивали назад и испытывали Бога, досаждая Святому Израиля.

42 T hey remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

Не помнили ни руки Его, ни дня, когда Он избавил их от угнетателя,

43 H ow he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan.

как сотворил в Египте знамения Свои и чудеса Свои в окрестностях Цоана.

44 A nd had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

Он превратил их реки в кровь и нельзя было пить из их источников.

45 H e sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

И послал на них густые рои мух, чтобы жалили их, и лягушек, чтобы губили их.

46 H e gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

Он гусеницам отдал урожай, и их труд – саранче.

47 H e destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

Виноград их побил Он градом и тутовые деревья их – наводненьем.

48 H e gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

Скот их предал граду и стада их – молниям.

49 H e cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

Излил на них Свой пылающий гнев, и негодование, и ярость, и бедствие, послал на них карающих ангелов.

50 H e made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

Проложил путь Своему гневу; Он не оградил души их от смерти, но предал их жизни моровой язве.

51 A nd smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

Поразил всех первенцев в Египте, первые плоды сил в шатрах Хама.

52 B ut made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

Как овец, Он вывел народ Свой, вел их, как стадо, через пустыню.

53 A nd he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

Вел их в безопасности, и не боялись они, а врагов их покрыло море.

54 A nd he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

Так Он привел их к границам Своей святой земли, к нагорьям, которые приобрел Он правой Своей рукой.

55 H e cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

Изгнал народы пред ними, а землю их разделил в наследие им и поселил в шатрах их роды Израиля.

56 Y et they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

Но, как прежде, они испытывали и противились Богу Всевышнему, и не хранили Его заповедей.

57 B ut turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

Они отступали и изменяли так же, как их отцы; они обращались назад, как неисправный лук.

58 F or they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

Огорчали Его своими святилищами на возвышенностях и ревность Его возбуждали идолами.

59 W hen God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

Услышал Бог и разгневался, сильно вознегодовал на Израиль.

60 S o that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

Оставил Свое жилище в Шило, скинию, которую поставил средь них.

61 A nd delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

И отдал в плен Свою силу и славу Свою в руки врага.

62 H e gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

Предал мечу народ Свой, прогневался на наследие Свое.

63 T he fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

Юношей их пожрал огонь, и девушкам их не пели брачных песен.

64 T heir priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

Их священники падали от меча, а вдовы их не плакали.

65 T hen the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

Тогда проснулся Владыка, как бы от сна, как могучий воин, отрезвившийся от вина,

66 A nd he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

и поразил врагов Своих в сзади, и обесчестил навечно.

67 M oreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

Отверг Он шатер Иосифа и не выбрал род Ефрема,

68 B ut chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

но избрал род Иуды и возлюбленную Им гору Сион.

69 A nd he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

Высокий, как небо, построил святой храм Свой и, как землю, навек утвердил его.

70 H e chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

Он избрал Давида, слугу Своего, взяв его от загонов овечьих,

71 F rom following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

забрав его от дойных овец, и привел его пасти Свой народ, Иакова – Израиль, Свое наследие.

72 S o he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

И пас он их в чистоте сердца своего, вел их рукой мудрой.
