1 T hen Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly,

Находясь в желудке рыбы, Иона помолился Господу, своему Богу.

2 A nd said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

Он сказал: – В горе я к Господу воззвал, и Он ответил мне. Я закричал – Ты услышал мой крик из глубин мира мертвых.

3 F or thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

Ты в пучину меня вверг, в самое сердце морей; окружили меня потоки. Все Твои волны, все Твои валы надо мной прошли.

4 T hen I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

Я сказал: «Изгнан я от глаз Твоих; однако я вновь увижу святой храм Твой».

5 T he waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

Воды надо мной сомкнулись, бездна меня обступила, и водоросли голову оплели.

6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.

На дно к самым корням гор я нисшел, засовы земли закрылись за мной навек, но Ты, Господи, Бог мой, извлек меня из ямы живым!

7 W hen my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

Когда жизнь угасала во мне, я Господа вспомнил, и дошла молитва моя к Тебе в святой храм Твой.

8 T hey that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

Те, кто ничтожных идолов чтит, лишились милости, что могли получить.

9 B ut I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

А я с хвалебными песнями буду жертвы Тебе приносить. Что обещал – исполню. Спасение – от Господа!

10 A nd the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Господь повелел рыбе, и она изрыгнула Иону на сушу.
