1 A nd he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.

Иосиф приказал своему управляющему: – Наполни мешки этих людей едой, сколько смогут унести, и положи серебро каждому обратно в мешок.

2 A nd put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

Положи мою чашу, мою серебряную чашу, в мешок к младшему вместе с его серебром за зерно. И тот сделал, как велел Иосиф.

3 A s soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses.

Как только рассвело, братьев отправили в путь вместе с их ослами.

4 A nd when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?

Они были еще недалеко от города, когда Иосиф сказал управляющему: – Немедленно отправляйся в погоню за этими людьми и, когда догонишь, скажи им: «Почему вы заплатили злом за добро?

5 I s not this it in which my lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing.

Ведь это чаша моего господина, из которой он пьет и на которой он гадает! Вы совершили недобрый поступок!»

6 A nd he overtook them, and he spake unto them these same words.

Догнав их, он повторил им эти слова.

7 A nd they said unto him, Wherefore saith my lord these words? God forbid that thy servants should do according to this thing:

Они ответили: – Почему господин говорит такие слова? Разве станут твои рабы делать подобное!

8 B ehold, the money, which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan: how then should we steal out of thy lord's house silver or gold?

Ведь мы даже принесли тебе обратно из земли Ханаана то серебро, которое нашли у себя в мешках. Зачем же нам воровать серебро или золото из дома твоего господина?

9 W ith whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my lord's bondmen.

Если вещь найдется у одного из твоих рабов, пусть он умрет, а остальные станут рабами нашего господина.

10 A nd he said, Now also let it be according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my servant; and ye shall be blameless.

Он сказал: – Хорошо, пусть будет так, как вы говорите: у кого найдется чаша, тот станет моим рабом, а остальные будут свободны от ответа.

11 T hen they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack.

Братья быстро опустили каждый свой мешок на землю и развязали их.

12 A nd he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

Управляющий начал искать, начиная со старшего, кончая младшим; чаша нашлась в мешке у Вениамина.

13 T hen they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city.

Они разорвали на себе одежду, нагрузили каждый своего осла и вернулись в город.

14 A nd Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house; for he was yet there: and they fell before him on the ground.

Иуда и его братья вернулись в дом Иосифа, который все еще был там. Они бросились перед ним на землю.

15 A nd Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?

Иосиф сказал им: – Что же вы сделали? Разве вы не знали, что такой человек, как я, может все узнать через гадание?

16 A nd Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord's servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found.

– Что мы можем сказать моему господину? – ответил Иуда. – Как нам возразить? Как доказать нашу невиновность? Бог открыл вину твоих рабов. Теперь мы рабы моего господина – и мы, и тот, у кого нашлась чаша.

17 A nd he said, God forbid that I should do so: but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.

Иосиф сказал: – Разве я стану делать такое! Только тот, у кого нашлась чаша, будет моим рабом, а вы возвращайтесь к отцу с миром. Иуда просит об освобождении младшего брата Вениамина

18 T hen Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh.

Тогда Иуда подошел к нему и сказал: – Пожалуйста, мой господин, позволь твоему рабу сказать моему господину слово. Не гневайся на твоего раба, хотя ты равен самому фараону.

19 M y lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother?

Мой господин спросил своих рабов: «Есть ли у вас отец или брат?»

20 A nd we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him.

И мы ответили: «У нас есть престарелый отец и есть его юный сын, рожденный ему в его старости. Его брат умер, и он остался один из сыновей своей матери, и отец любит его».

21 A nd thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring him down unto me, that I may set mine eyes upon him.

Тогда ты сказал своим рабам: «Приведите его ко мне, чтобы мне посмотреть на него».

22 A nd we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father: for if he should leave his father, his father would die.

А мы ответили моему господину: «Мальчик не может оставить отца, а если оставит, то отец умрет».

23 A nd thou saidst unto thy servants, Except your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more.

Но ты сказал своим рабам: «Пока ваш брат не придет сюда с вами, не показывайтесь мне на глаза».

24 A nd it came to pass when we came up unto thy servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

Вернувшись к твоему рабу, моему отцу, мы пересказали ему, что сказал мой господин.

25 A nd our father said, Go again, and buy us a little food.

Наш отец сказал: «Вернитесь и купите еще немного еды».

26 A nd we said, We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man's face, except our youngest brother be with us.

Но мы ответили: «Мы не можем пойти; только если младший брат пойдет с нами, тогда мы пойдем. Мы не можем и на глаза показаться тому человеку, если не будет с нами младшего брата».

27 A nd thy servant my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bare me two sons:

Твой раб, мой отец, сказал нам: «Вы сами знаете, что моя жена родила мне двоих сыновей.

28 A nd the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since:

Один из них ушел от меня, и я сказал: “Конечно, он был растерзан на куски”, – и с тех пор я его не видел.

29 A nd if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.

Если вы возьмете у меня и другого, и с ним случится беда, вы сведете мою седую голову в мир мертвых от горя».

30 N ow therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life;

Поэтому, если мальчика не будет с нами, когда я вернусь к твоему рабу, моему отцу, и если мой отец, который так привязан к этому мальчику,

31 I t shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave.

увидит, что его с нами нет, он умрет. Твои рабы сведут седую голову нашего отца в мир мертвых от скорби.

32 F or thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father for ever.

Твой раб поручился за безопасность мальчика перед отцом. Я сказал: «Если я не приведу его к тебе, то вина перед тобой, отец, будет на мне всю жизнь».

33 N ow therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren.

Итак, молю тебя, позволь твоему рабу остаться здесь рабом моего господина вместо мальчика, и позволь мальчику вернуться с братьями.

34 F or how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.

Как я могу вернуться к отцу, если мальчика со мной не будет? Да не увижу я горя моего отца.
