1 W hen Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

Когда Ефрем говорил, люди дрожали. Он был возвышен в Израиле. Но он стал повинен в поклонении Баалу и погиб.

2 A nd now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

Теперь они грешат все больше и больше. Они делают для себя идолов из своего серебра, разумно отлитые истуканы, все это – изделия ремесленников. Люди, приносящие жертвы, говорят к тельцам, целуют их.

3 T herefore they shall be as the morning cloud and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

Поэтому они будут как утренний туман, как роса, что вскоре исчезает, словно мякина от зерна, сдуваемая ветром, как дым, выходящий через дымоход.

4 Y et I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

– Но Я – Господь, твой Бог, Который вывел тебя из Египта. Ты не должен признавать другого бога, кроме Меня, и никакого спасителя, кроме Меня.

5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

Я заботился о тебе в пустыне, в обжигающей зноем земле.

6 A ccording to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

Когда Я кормил их, они насыщались, а насытившись, становились гордыми, поэтому они забыли обо Мне.

7 T herefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:

Итак, Я настигну их, как лев, как леопард в ожидании, притаюсь у дороги.

8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.

Как медведица, лишенная своих медвежат, Я нападу на них и раздеру им грудь. Как львица, Я буду поедать их, и, как дикое животное, буду раздирать их на части.

9 O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

Я уничтожу тебя, Израиль, потому что ты против Меня, против своего помощника.

10 I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?

Где теперь твой царь? Пусть он спасет тебя во всех твоих городах! Где твои судьи, о которых ты просил, говоря: «Дай нам царя и вождей»?

11 I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.

В Своем негодовании Я дал тебе царя, и в гневе Своем Я забрал его.

12 T he iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

Беззаконие Ефрема завязано в узел, хранятся его грехи.

13 T he sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.

Его настигнут муки, как у женщины при родах, но он – неразумное дитя; ему пришло время родиться, а он упирается, желая остаться в утробе.

14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

Я уберегу их от власти мира мертвых. Я искуплю их от смерти. О смерть, где твое бедствие? О мир мертвых! Где твое разрушение? Я не пожалею об этом.

15 T hough he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

Хотя он процветает среди своих братьев, придет восточный ветер от Господа, задует из пустыни и иссохнет родник его, иссякнет источник его. Унесет все его драгоценности из сокровищницы.

16 S amaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

Народ Самарии должен понести свое наказание, потому что он восстал против своего Бога. Они падут от меча, их дети будут разорваны на куски, их беременные женщины будут рассечены на части.
