1 I n the second year that Nebuchadnezzar was king, he had a dream. His spirit was troubled and he could not sleep.

În al doilea an al domniei sale, Nebucadneţar a avut nişte vise care i-au tulburat atât de tare duhul, încât nu a mai avut somn.

2 T hen the king called for the wonder-workers, those who used secret ways, those who learned from stars, to tell the king what he had dreamed. So they came in and stood in front of the king.

Împăratul a poruncit să fie chemaţi magicienii, descântătorii, vrăjitorii şi astrologii, ca să-i spună împăratului visele. Ei au venit şi s-au înfăţişat înaintea împăratului.

3 T he king said to them, “I had a dream that troubles me, and I want to know what the dream means.”

Împăratul le-a zis: – Am avut un vis şi duhul mi-e tulburat, căci aş vrea să aflu ce înseamnă visul!

4 T hen those who learn from stars said to the king in the Aramaic language, “O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants, and we will tell you what it means.”

Astrologii i-au răspuns împăratului în limba aramaică, astfel: – Să trăieşti veşnic, împărate! Spune-le slujitorilor tăi visul, iar noi îţi vom da interpretarea!

5 T he king answered, saying, “My word is sure. If you do not tell me what my dream was and what it means, you will be torn apart and your houses will be laid waste.

Împăratul le-a zis astrologilor: – Iată hotărârea fermă pe care am luat-o: dacă nu-mi veţi face cunoscut visul şi interpretarea lui, veţi fi făcuţi bucăţi, iar casele voastre vor fi prefăcute în mormane de gunoi.

6 B ut if you tell me the dream and what it means, I will give you gifts and riches and great honor. So tell me the dream and what it means.”

Dacă însă îmi veţi spune visul şi interpretarea lui, veţi primi din partea mea daruri, răsplătiri şi mari onoruri. Aşadar, spuneţi-mi visul şi interpretarea lui!

7 T hey answered the king a second time, saying, “Let the king tell the dream to his servants, and we will tell you what it means.”

Ei au răspuns a doua oară: – Să spună împăratul slujitorilor săi visul şi noi îi vom desluşi interpretarea.

8 T he king said, “I am sure that you are trying to get more time, because you see that my word is sure.

Atunci împăratul le-a zis: – Acum ştiu cu adevărat că vreţi să câştigaţi timp, pentru că vedeţi hotărârea fermă pe care am luat-o.

9 Y ou know that if you do not tell me what I dreamed, there is only one penalty for you. You have agreed among yourselves to keep telling me lies until things change. So tell me the dream. Then I will know that you can tell me what it means.”

Dacă nu-mi veţi face cunoscut visul, nu rămâne decât un singur verdict pentru voi! Văd că v-aţi înţeles să-mi ziceţi minciuni şi lucruri false, sperând că situaţia se va schimba. Aşadar, spuneţi-mi visul ca să ştiu astfel că sunteţi în stare să-mi daţi şi interpretarea lui!

10 T hose who learn from stars answered the king and said, “There is not a man on earth who can do this for the king. For no great king or ruler has ever asked anything like this of any wonder-worker or one who learns from stars.

Astrologii i-au răspuns împăratului astfel: – Nu există nici un om pe pământ care să poată spune ceea ce doreşte împăratul. De aceea nici un împărat, oricât de mare şi de autoritar ar fi fost el, nu a cerut aşa ceva vreunui magician, vreunui descântător sau vreunui astrolog.

11 W hat the king asks is too hard. No one can do it for you except the gods, who do not live among men.”

Lucrul pe care-l cere împăratul este prea greu şi nimeni nu i-l poate face cunoscut împăratului, în afară de zei, a căror locuinţă nu este printre muritori!

12 B ecause of this the king became very angry and said that all the wise men of Babylon must be destroyed.

Când a auzit aceasta, împăratul s-a mâniat şi, înfuriindu-se foarte tare, a poruncit să fie omorâţi toţi înţelepţii Babilonului.

13 S o the law was sent out that the wise men must be killed. They looked for Daniel and his friends, to kill them also. God Shows Daniel the Meaning of the Dream

Decretul ieşise, înţelepţii erau pe cale de a fi omorâţi, iar gărzile îi căutau şi pe Daniel şi pe prietenii lui ca să-i omoare.

14 T hen Daniel spoke with wisdom and understanding to Arioch, the captain of the soldiers who watched over the king, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon.

Atunci Daniel, cu prudenţă şi discreţie, s-a apropiat de Ariok, căpetenia gărzilor împăratului, care ieşise să-i omoare pe înţelepţii Babilonului.

15 H e said to Arioch, the king’s captain, “Why is the king’s law so hard?” Then Arioch told him what had happened.

El l­a întrebat pe Ariok, comandantul împăratului: „De ce este atât de aspru decretul dat de împărat?“ Ariok i-a spus lui Daniel cum stau lucrurile.

16 S o Daniel went in and asked the king for time, so that he could tell the king what the dream meant.

Daniel s-a dus la împărat şi l-a rugat să-i dea timp, pentru a-i putea spune interpretarea visului.

17 T hen Daniel went to his house and told his friends, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, what had happened.

Apoi Daniel s-a dus acasă pentru a-i înştiinţa pe prietenii săi, Hanania, Mişael şi Azaria, cu privire la lucrul acesta

18 H e told them to ask for loving-pity from the God of heaven about this secret, so that Daniel and his friends might not be killed with the other wise men of Babylon.

şi pentru a cere îndurare din partea Dumnezeului cerurilor cu privire la acest mister, astfel încât Daniel şi prietenii lui, împreună cu restul înţelepţilor Babilonului, să nu piară.

19 T hen the secret was made known to Daniel in a special dream during the night. He gave honor and thanks to the God of heaven.

Noaptea, misterul i-a fost descoperit lui Daniel într-o viziune. Atunci Daniel L-a binecuvântat pe Dumnezeul cerurilor.

20 D aniel said, “Let the name of God be honored forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him.

Daniel a zis: „Binecuvântat să fie Numele lui Dumnezeu din veşnicie în veşnicie, căci a Lui este înţelepciunea şi puterea.

21 H e changes the times and the years. He takes kings away, and puts kings in power. He gives wisdom to wise men and much learning to men of understanding.

El schimbă vremurile şi împrejurările, El răstoarnă şi ridică împăraţi, El dă înţelepciune înţelepţilor şi cunoştinţă – celor pricepuţi.

22 H e makes known secret and hidden things. He knows what is in the darkness. Light is with Him.

El descoperă lucrurile adânci şi ascunse; El ştie ce se află în întuneric şi cu El locuieşte lumina.

23 I give thanks and praise to You, O God of my fathers. For You have given me wisdom and power. Even now You have made known what we asked of You. You have made the king’s dream known to us.” Daniel Tells the Meaning to the King

Ţie, Dumnezeul părinţilor mei, Îţi aduc mulţumire şi laudă, căci mi-ai dat înţelepciune şi putere şi mi-ai făcut cunoscut lucrul pe care noi Ţi l-am cerut, descoperindu-ne ceea ce împăratul ne cere!“ Interpretarea visului împăratului

24 S o Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had told to kill the wise men of Babylon. He went and said to him, “Do not kill the wise men of Babylon! Take me to the king, and I will tell him what his dream means.”

După aceste lucruri, Daniel s-a dus la Ariok, cel numit de împărat să-i omoare pe înţelepţii Babilonului; s-a dus la el şi i-a zis astfel: „Nu-i omorî pe înţelepţii Babilonului! Du-mă înaintea împăratului şi-i voi spune interpretarea!“

25 T hen Arioch brought Daniel to the king in a hurry, and said to him, “I have found a man among those brought out of Judah who can tell the king the meaning of his dream!”

Ariok s-a grăbit să-l aducă pe Daniel înaintea împăratului şi i-a vorbit astfel: – Am găsit un om printre exilaţii din Iuda care poate face cunoscută împăratului interpretarea!

26 T he king said to Daniel (also called Belteshazzar), “Are you able to tell me the dream I had, and what it means?”

Împăratul i-a zis lui Daniel, numit şi Beltşaţar: – Poţi tu să-mi faci cunoscut ce am văzut în vis şi să-mi dai şi interpretarea lui?

27 D aniel answered the king and said, “No wise men, wonder-workers, or men who use secret ways can make this dream known to the king.

Daniel a răspuns împăratului: – Ceea ce împăratul cere este un mister pe care nici un înţelept, nici un descântător, nici un magician şi nici un ghicitor nu-l poate dezvălui împăratului.

28 B ut there is a God in heaven who makes secrets known. And He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. This was the special dream you had while you were on your bed.

Dar este un Dumnezeu în ceruri Care dezvăluie misterele şi El i-a făcut cunoscut împăratului Nebucadneţar ce se va întâmpla în zilele de pe urmă. Iată visul şi viziunile pe care le-ai avut în mintea ta în timp ce erai în patul tău.

29 O king, while on your bed your thoughts turned to what would happen in the future. And He Who makes secrets known has let you know what will happen.

Ţie, împărate, pe când erai în patul tău, ţi-au venit gânduri cu privire la ce se va întâmpla în viitor şi Cel Ce descoperă misterele ţi-a făcut cunoscut ce va fi.

30 B ut this secret has not been made known to me because I am wiser than any other living man. It was made known to me so that I can make it known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind.

Cât despre mine, misterul acesta mi-a fost descoperit, nu pentru că aş avea mai multă înţelepciune decât toţi cei vii, ci pentru ca împăratului să i se dezvăluie interpretarea visului şi să înţeleagă gândurile inimii sale.

31 “ O king, you were looking and saw a great object. The object was large and very bright, and it was standing in front of you. It filled you with fear and wonder as you looked at it.

Tu, împărate, te uitai şi iată că ai văzut o statuie mare. Statuia aceasta era foarte mare şi de o strălucire nemaipomenită. Stătea în picioare înaintea ta şi înfăţişarea ei era înspăimântătoare.

32 T he object’s head was made of fine gold. Its breast and arms were made of silver. Its stomach and thighs were made of brass.

Capul acestei statui era din aur curat, pieptul şi braţele îi erau din argint, iar pântecele şi coapsele îi erau din bronz.

33 I ts legs were made of iron, and its feet were part iron and part clay.

Gambele ei erau din fier, iar picioarele – o parte din fier, o parte din lut.

34 W hile you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It fell and hit the large object on its feet of iron and clay, and crushed them.

În timp ce te uitai, a fost desprinsă o piatră, fără ajutorul vreunei mâini, care a lovit statuia peste picioarele ei de fier şi de lut şi le-a sfărâmat.

35 T hen the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver and the gold were broken to pieces at the same time and became like dust on the grain-floor in the summer. The wind carried the dust away so nothing was to be found. But the stone that hit the large object became a large mountain and filled the whole earth.

Atunci fierul, lutul, bronzul, argintul şi aurul au fost sfărâmate împreună şi au ajuns precum pleava din arie vara, la vânturat. Le-a luat vântul şi nici o urmă nu s-a mai găsit din ele. Dar piatra care a lovit statuia s-a făcut un munte mare, care a umplut tot pământul.

36 “ This was the dream. Now we will tell the king what it means.

Acesta este visul; acum voi spune şi interpretarea lui înaintea împăratului.

37 Y ou, O king, are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you the nation, the power, the strength, and the honor.

Tu, împărate, eşti împăratul împăraţilor, căci Dumnezeul cerurilor ţi-a dat o împărăţie, putere, tărie şi glorie.

38 I n every place where people live, or the animals of the field, or the birds of the air, He has given them to you and has caused you to rule over them all. You are the head of gold.

El ţi-a dat în mâini pe oameni, oriunde locuiesc ei, ţi-a dat fiarele câmpului şi păsările cerului şi te-a făcut stăpân peste toate. Tu eşti deci capul de aur!

39 A fter you there will be another nation that is not as great as yours. A third nation of brass will come, which will rule over all the earth.

După tine se va ridica pe pământ o împărăţie mai neînsemnată decât a ta şi apoi o a treia împărăţie, a bronzului, care va avea stăpânire peste tot pământul.

40 T hen there will be a fourth nation, as strong as iron. Iron crushes and breaks all things. So, like iron breaks things to pieces, this nation will crush and break all the others.

Va fi şi o a patra împărăţie, tare ca fierul (fierul sfărâmă şi spulberă totul). Şi, după cum fierul sfărâmă şi spulberă totul, tot astfel şi această împărăţie le va sfărâma şi le va zdrobi pe celelalte.

41 J ust as you saw the feet and toes made of part clay and part iron, it will be a divided nation. But it will have some of the strength of iron, just as you saw the iron mixed with the clay.

De asemenea, aşa cum ai văzut că picioarele şi degetele erau o parte din lut de olar şi o altă parte din fier, tot aşa va fi împărţită şi împărăţia. Va rămâne însă în ea ceva din tăria fierului, întocmai cum ai văzut fierul amestecat cu lutul.

42 A s the toes of the feet were made of part iron and part clay, so some of the nation will be strong and part of it will be weak.

Şi aşa cum degetele picioarelor erau o parte din fier şi o altă parte din lut, tot aşa şi împărăţia aceasta va fi în parte tare şi în parte fragilă.

43 A s you saw the iron mixed with clay, they will try to join with one another. But they will not stay together any more than iron mixes with clay.

După cum ai văzut fierul amestecat cu lutul, tot aşa şi ei îşi vor amesteca neamul cu ceilalţi oameni, însă nu vor rămâne uniţi, aşa cum nici fierul nu se poate uni cu lutul.

44 I n the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a nation which will never be destroyed. And it will never be taken by another people. It will crush and put an end to all these nations, but it will last forever.

În zilele acestor împăraţi însă, Dumnezeul cerurilor va ridica o împărăţie veşnică, care nu va fi distrusă niciodată şi care nu va fi lăsată în mâinile altui popor. Ea va sfărâma şi va pune capăt tuturor celorlalte împărăţii, însă ea va dăinui veşnic.

45 Y ou saw how a stone was cut out of the mountain by no human hands, and how it crushed the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold. The great God has shown the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true. And I have given you its true meaning.” Daniel Becomes Ruler of Babylon

Aceasta înseamnă piatra care ai văzut că a fost desprinsă din munte fără ajutorul vreunei mâini şi care a sfărâmat fierul, bronzul, lutul, argintul şi aurul. Dumnezeul cel Mare a făcut deci cunoscut împăratului ce va fi în viitor. Visul este adevărat, iar interpretarea lui este vrednică de încredere.

46 T hen King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and gave honor to Daniel. He had a gift and special perfume brought to him.

Atunci împăratul Nebucadneţar a căzut cu faţa la pământ şi i-a adus omagii lui Daniel. El a poruncit să i se ofere un dar de mâncare şi miresme.

47 T he king said to Daniel, “For sure your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and He makes hidden things known. For you have been able to make known this secret.”

Împăratul i-a zis lui Daniel: – Cu adevărat Dumnezeul vostru este Dumnezeul dumnezeilor, Stăpânul împăraţilor şi Cel Ce descoperă misterele, căci ai putut să descoperi misterul acesta!

48 T hen the king gave Daniel much power and gave him many great gifts. He made him ruler over the whole land of Babylon and the head of all the wise men of Babylon.

Apoi împăratul l-a înălţat pe Daniel, i-a dat daruri multe şi bogate, l-a pus conducător peste toată provincia Babilonului şi l-a făcut înalt demnitar, dându-i autoritate peste toţi înţelepţii Babilonului.

49 A nd Daniel asked the king to put Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego as leaders over the land of Babylon, while Daniel stayed near the king.

Daniel l-a rugat pe împărat să-i numească pe Şadrak, pe Meşak şi pe Abed-Nego în slujba de administratori ai provinciei Babilonului. Daniel însă a rămas la curtea împăratului.
