1 G od said to Jacob, “Get ready and go to Bethel to live. Make an altar there to God, Who showed Himself to you when you ran away from your brother Esau.”

Dumnezeu i-a vorbit lui Iacov astfel: „Scoală-te, du-te la Betel, locuieşte acolo şi zideşte un altar pentru Dumnezeul Care ţi S-a arătat pe când fugeai de fratele tău, Esau.“

2 S o Jacob said to those of his house and all who were with him, “Put away the strange gods that are among you. Make yourselves clean and change your clothes.

Iacov le-a spus celor din familia sa şi tuturor celor care erau cu el: „Îndepărtaţi zeii care sunt în mijlocul vostru, curăţaţi-vă şi schimbaţi-vă hainele,

3 T hen let us get ready and go to Bethel. I will make an altar there to God, Who answered me in the day of my trouble, and was with me every place I went.”

pentru ca să ne sculăm şi să mergem la Betel unde voi zidi un altar pentru Dumnezeul Care mi-a răspuns în ziua necazului meu şi Care a fost cu mine pe oriunde am umblat.“

4 S o they gave to Jacob all the strange gods they had, and the gold objects which they wore in their ears. And Jacob hid them under the tree near Shechem.

Ei i-au dat lui Iacov toţi zeii pe care-i aveau şi cerceii pe care-i purtau în urechi. După ce i-a îngropat sub terebintul care se afla lângă Şehem,

au pornit la drum. Groaza lui Dumnezeu a cuprins cetăţile din împrejurimi, astfel încât nimeni nu i-a urmărit.

6 S o Jacob and all the people who were with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.

Iacov a ajuns la Luz, adică Betel, care se află în Canaan, împreună cu toţi cei care erau cu el.

7 H e built an altar there, and gave the place the name El-bethel. Because God had shown Himself to him there, when Jacob ran away from his brother.

Acolo a zidit un altar şi a pus acelui loc numele El-Betel, pentru că Dumnezeu Însuşi i Se arătase acolo, pe când fugea de fratele său, Esau.

8 T hen Rebekah’s nurse Deborah died. She was buried below Bethel under a tree. It was given the name of Allon-bacuth.

Debora, doica Rebecăi, a murit şi a fost îngropată sub un stejar, mai jos de Betel; de aceea stejarul a fost numit Alon-Bakut.

9 W hen Jacob came from Paddan-aram, God showed Himself to him again and brought good to him.

După ce Iacov s-a întors din Padan-Aram, Dumnezeu i S-a arătat din nou, l-a binecuvântat

10 G od said to him, “Your name is Jacob. You will not be called Jacob any longer, but Israel will be your name.” So his name was Israel.

şi i-a zis: „Numele tău este Iacov; dar nu te vei mai numi Iacov, ci numele tău va fi Israel.“ Şi l-a numit Israel.

11 T hen God said to him, “I am the All-powerful God. Have many children and add to your number. A nation and a group of nations will come from you. Kings will come from you.

Dumnezeu i-a mai zis: „Eu sunt Dumnezeul cel Atoputernic: fii roditor şi înmulţeşte-te; un neam şi o mulţime de neamuri vor ieşi din tine, chiar regi vor ieşi din coapsele tale.

12 I will give you the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac. This land I will give to your children and their children’s children after you.”

Ţara pe care le-am dat-o lui Avraam şi Isaac ţi-o voi da ţie şi seminţei tale după tine.“

13 T hen God went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him.

Apoi Dumnezeu S-a înălţat de la el, din locul în care îi vorbise.

14 J acob set up a pillar of stone in the place where He had spoken with him. And he poured a drink offering and also oil on it.

Iacov a aşezat un stâlp de piatră în locul în care Dumnezeu îi vorbise şi a turnat o jertfă de băutură şi untdelemn pe el.

15 S o Jacob gave the place where God had spoken with him the name Bethel.

Iacov a numit locul în care Dumnezeu îi vorbise, Betel. Moartea Rahelei şi a lui Isaac

16 T hen they traveled from Bethel. When there was still a long way to go before coming to Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth. She suffered much pain.

După aceea au plecat din Betel şi, înainte de a ajunge la Efrata, pe Rahela au apucat-o durerile naşterii. A avut o naştere grea.

17 A nd while she was suffering, the woman who was helping her said to her, “Do not be afraid. For now you have another son.”

Pe când era în durerile naşterii, moaşa i-a zis: „Nu te teme, pentru că mai ai un fiu.“

18 A s Rachel’s soul was leaving, for she died, she gave him the name Benoni. But his father gave him the name Benjamin.

În timp ce îşi dădea sufletul, pentru că era pe moarte, Rahela i-a pus băiatului numele Ben-Oni; însă tatăl său i-a pus numele Beniamin.

19 S o Rachel died, and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

Rahela a murit şi a fost îngropată pe drumul spre Efrata, adică Betleem.

20 J acob set up a stone on her grave. And that is the stone of Rachel’s grave to this day.

Iacov a aşezat un stâlp pe mormântul ei, stâlp care se află pe mormântul Rahelei şi astăzi.

21 T hen Israel traveled on, and put up his tent on the other side of the tall building of Eder.

Israel şi-a continuat călătoria şi şi-a întins cortul dincolo de Migdal-Eder.

22 W hile Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, the woman who acted as his father’s wife. And Israel heard about it. The Sons of Jacob There were twelve sons of Jacob.

În timp ce Israel locuia în acel ţinut, Ruben s-a dus şi s-a culcat cu Bilha, ţiitoarea tatălui său, dar Israel a aflat despre acest lucru. Iacov avea doisprezece fii.

23 T he sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s first-born, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

Fiii Leei au fost: Ruben, întâiul născut al lui Iacov; Simeon, Levi, Iuda, Isahar şi Zabulon.

24 T he sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.

Fiii Rahelei au fost: Iosif şi Beniamin.

25 T he sons of Bilhah, the woman who served Rachel, were Dan and Naphtali.

27 J acob came to his father Isaac at Mamre of Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had been living.

Iacov a ajuns la tatăl său, Isaac, în Mamre, lângă Chiriat-Arba, adică Hebron, unde au locuit ca străini Avraam şi Isaac.

28 N ow Isaac had lived 180 years.

Isaac a trăit o sută optzeci de ani.

29 A nd Isaac breathed his last and died, and was joined to his people who died before him. He was an old man who had a long life, and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

El şi-a dat ultima suflare şi astfel a murit bătrân şi sătul de zile, fiind adăugat la poporul său; iar Esau şi Iacov, fiii săi, l-au îngropat.
